Philips adds a new Skype phone to their VoIP lineup
It's not quite as sexy as that Windows Live Messenger VOIP4331S phone from them we spotted a few weeks ago, but Philips' new VOIP321 cordless Skype phone should do nicely for someone wanting a bit of "old school" cordless phone comfort for their VoIP calls. Like the 433 unit, this 321 model is based on DECT technology to enhance security and voice quality. The phone has buddy list ability, polyphonic ringtones, and the specs just get more boring from there. No word on price, but you should be able to get your Skype-on with this thing, in the US at least, this July.

I used Skype through my notebook, with external speakers and a USB mike [my Dell Latitude D810 does not have a build-in mike]. After installing the VOIP 321, the latter has taken over and my "Skype on notebook" is no longer functional. The audio settings on the PC show that VOIP 321 has taken over. Is it possible to have dual functionality, my PC and the 321?

Do not have the Philips VOIP 321 but your problem may be that which is experienced by many Skype users. Check your Control Panel, Sounds and make sure that your normal sound system is indicated in all areas of the Audio & Voice then go into Skype,Tools,Options, Audio Settings and make sure that both Mic & Speakers have the drivers for your phone. (In mine, it indicates "USB Phone" but this varies with each phone.) Often it will say Windows default which is incorrect. Hope this helps.

To Richard Lacroix :
Your PC and VOIP321 has been synchronized already. If you dont want to use the phone, just unplug the usb.
but surely you can still use ur pc for chatting while you can enjoy your phone for calling.
Cheers,
Nina

Hi. Can this Philips' new VOIP321 cordless Skype phone be used anywhere in the world? I'm moving to South Africa, and was wondering if this can be used there too.
Thanks!
