RCA's H116 6GB DAP reviewed
Considering that exactly zero people were interested enough in the new hard drive-based RCA MP3 players we brought you last week to actually leave a comment, we doubt that even a glowing review from Cnet would convince you to pick up one of these models -- but that's a moot point, because Cnet really doesn't have many positive things to say about the 6GB H116 they put through its paces. As you'll recall, RCA is clearly targeting the low-end of the market with its new DAPs, as evidenced by their black-and-white screens, rather generic-looking designs, and most tellingly, their complete lack of extra features that might sway folks away from the iTatorship. In fact, the only real compliment Cnet is able to muster about their unit is the fact that it does what it advertises: play music -- but not very well it seems. Combined with the buggy controls and poor quality of the FM transmitter, the sub-par audio would seem to indicate that even for the low-low price of $170, you're still not getting what you pay for.[Thanks, Jen B.]

It's a crying shame England got knocked out of the World Cup..oh well, I really want to see Italy make it through to the Final. Although I quite fancy Germany's cahnces, home turf and all that....Oh a new DAP from RCA...ok...

No surprise here. RCA makes the most craptacular electronics around. I have one of their flash-based DAP's that I bought from Woot.com a while back, and it is the single worst-designed, most retardly bad bit of electronic kit I've ever had the displeasure of buying.
RCA = steaming pile of monkey shit.

I picked my wife up an RCA Lyra a few months back and it was the biggest POS electronics purchase I've ever made. Top to bottom it was awful. The controls were awkward and difficult to maneuver, and the menu interface was just plain horrible. I don't have much faith that RCA could improve upon something that horrible in such a short amount of time.

My girlfriend bought one of these after returning a defective mobiBlu Cube and this thing ROCKS. I'm pretty familiar with DAPs and, although this isn't fancy, it's a spectacular player for the price. The clickwheel feels nice, the player looks nice, it loads fast (a lot faster than my m:robe mr100)... It gets good battery life... And, in my opinion it looks better than an iPod.
The fact that you can just drag-n-drop music right into a folder is great... No need for software. We plugged it in, drug some music over, and played it flawlessly. You can diss on RCA all you want, but this thing is incredible.

you are exactly right. the only problem ive had with mine is it freezes some times. but other than that, its great. besides, the white on black text is a hell of alot easier to read than the reverse.
