While everyone else has been busy watching the World Cup, it appears Venzero has been in the labs, creating a new middle child for their ever-expanding One line of DAPs. At 6GB, the LilOne fits snugly between the original, full-featured
8GB model and the minimalistic, flash-based
Mini version that was announced last month. Like it's siblings, the LilOne will play MP3s and WMAs (with and without DRM), with a 1.5-inch screen providing access to short videos and photos. Other features include a 20-hour battery life, a €200 pricetag and the kitschy
MusicMarker feature that helps you identify songs you hear on the radio. We're assuming it was size restraints that kept this player from getting the handy retractable USB connector of the original One, but that shouldn't prevent it from giving players like
iRiver's E10 and
Sandisk's Sansa e260 a little gentlemanly competition.

Update: Even though we've seen this around for €200, Venzero is insisting that it'll only cost $200 when it drops in the US. Score!

I say... HDD is sooooo 21rst century. Were in the era of Flash memory, smaller, faster, and no moving parts.
Dont expect this player to be in the hands of many.

8GB Creative can be had for 180, hell, 40GB toshiba for 200.
Theres plenty of competition for iPod, youre just to stubborn to learn a new way of navigating ;)

You know, when there got to be so many cell phone stories on Engadget they had to start Engadget Mobile to restore balance. I think its about time to start Engadget Ipod Wannabees. It will be a good place to put all these pathetic stories about product that will never see the light of day or for the lucky will be responsible for .01% of the market for DAP's.

same as all the rest. no aac/mp4 audio. when will anyone learn that if you're going to take on the ipod, you're going to need to support the ipod's DEFAULT, FREE, & OPEN format called mp4? i keep waiting for something that will woo me away, because it doesn't have to be wma OR mp4... it can be both. but no one puts in support for both. so all of these daps continue to fight a pointless war over the ipod vs. wma audio format. why? it makes me think that microsofts Plays for Sure joke on the industry requires participants to intentional leave out mp4. yes, i know i am ignoring that there are the DRM versions of each... but that's it's own animal. i'm just saying that if an ipod owner's entire cd collection has been turned into aac (mp4), why would they switch to something that won't play it? just goes to show that the executives making the decisions don't fully understand the technologies they peddle... or microsoft is making fools of them all once again.

why bother with engineering a HDD based PMP and only give it a 6gb HDD? i can go and pick up a Sandisk Sensa E series with 6gb of flash, plus a transflash expansion slot good for another gig for a little more.
