Microsoft has made a good effort, but for now, I do not think they will be able to beat the I-pod. One of the main hinderences is that it only plays music from the Microsoft network. The Zune is not compatible with I-tunes, the main site to download music. I question the fact that people will be willing to repay for music that they already have. Fellow site http://blog.wired.com/music/ gives comment to how Zune will not even play songs from Microsoft’s music technology PlayForSure. Microsoft is trying to come up with a whole new way of sharing music. They may not have fully thought about the fact that many people are slow to change. At http://www.stereogum.com/archives/003387.html, there is the feeling that Microsoft has not quite come up with a fool proof plan of getting users to switch away from their I-pods. Other reasons not to switch include the fact that Apple offers more selection in storage (the Mini, the Nano, the Shuffe) and color (black, white, blue, green, pink). I agree that these limitations may hinder Microsoft’s quest to capture the market.
