Samsung's new 22-inch widescreen LCD
So we're not sure if this is the same Vista-focused product that the company was supposedly working on with Microsoft, but Samsung has just revealed a new 22-inch widescreen LCD known as the CX223B/W that should go nicely with the upcoming OS. Available in black or silver, this monitor features a pretty decent 1,680 x 1,050 resolution, 5-millisecond response time, and most importantly for HD fans, an HDCP-enabled DVI port (though HDMI seems to be missing). The lack of info on other important specs such as contrast or brightness makes us think that the display is not scheduled for an impending release, a notion that's only further supported by the lack of any pricing details. If you can't wait for the CX223BW to start shipping in the US, there's always that LCM-22w2 from Westinghouse to keep you occupied for the time being, and both Dell and LG are expected to drop new 22-inch models in the near future as well.

Given that it clearly has no speakers on it, what possible advantage do you think HDMI will offer over a HDCP enabled DVI port ? ...... That's right, absolutely nothing.

Why not simply do 1920 x 1080?
Rowlander @ Jul 27th 2006 1:12PM
What about the 27-inch monitor that was rumoured a few months ago? I believe Samsung was the manufacturer and Dell is going to sell them. Has anybody heard about that? It was said that it would come out in October.

Samsung seems to have an army of cute asian girls working in diligently their labs, surfacing only when they have completed a sexy new product...
Brian @ Jul 27th 2006 1:23PM
@Ping...
Samsung is a Korean company, so obviously the girls are Asian! And these are not professional booth babes; the vast majority of these girls are employees flattered to be asked to pose with the products their divisions produce.

The aspect ratio doesn't look right for a WS

Wow. I never leave comments on this site (mainly because I have to go through this activating nonsense) but the picture of that gorgeous girl definitely made it hard to resist posting.
And Brian, I'm Korean and I know that regular Samsung employees don't look like her.
In fact, even among Korean models, that girl is one of the finest IMO.

Upon further examination of the link, I have found the second picture of her less tolerable.

yet another expensive widescreen lcd that wont do the native resolution of blue ray or hd-dvd disks...
1080p
what would be good is a 22" 1920x1200 widescreen display.
hdcp dvi/hdmi.
enzo @ Jul 27th 2006 2:59PM
I thought HDCP was just a form of DRM... why would it be important for HD fans?

so... how much...

i hate to break your anime loving heart, but asia is like america, you have a ton of dogs and maybe, just maybe, theres that one diamond in the ruff. its the pretty ones that stand out making the rest of the women go unnoticed.
Ben @ Jul 27th 2006 3:14PM
Where is the monitor in that picture?
Tnyc @ Jul 27th 2006 3:16PM
American women are falling behind in term of looks. Why? Cz' more than half of the population is FAT! Where as European and Asian women fair alot better. Asian women also age a lot better too. Hell, even Canadian women are hotter than US. Of course I'm generalizing here and this is MHO.
Brian @ Jul 27th 2006 5:55PM
brian, i'm korean too. you haven't been to korea ever, have you? you'll pass girls that look like that quite often.

You are not.

@Brian
I work at one such Korean company's US subsidiary. There are tons of Korean ladies here that are absolutley gorgeous, smart, and do pose with the products we sell.
I'd like to go to Korea and was offered the chance, but family matters detained me.
Cheers!

Enzo , The HDCP is as you say a form of copy protection. They want to control even the DISPLAY device stream also. If you do not have one of these new HDCP monitors you will likely not be able to watch new HD DVD or Blu Ray from disc on your computer. The want the entire digital stream DRM'ed up so you can never record it via any of the streams or capture it from the video card etc.
Part of the new telecom bill about to be finished up also has whats called the Analog Hole Plug. The MPAA etc want to force the TV manufacturers to remove ALL the analog plug ins in your new TV so you can not even use the old VCR. They want to keep you from copying the HD shows or SD ones even on the old analog format. Then digitizing it and putting it on the net. This is to finally get around the Sony Betamax decision they have hated since the 80's.
I urge all reading this to contact their Sen and Cong folks and ask them to remove Paragraph 452 and 453 from the Telecom bill. These give the FCC the authority to implement the Broadcast Flag that will also allow the movies studio to disable your Tivo and DVR from satellites or Cableco at their whim. They can down rez your new HD or forbid you from redording an event. Or they can only allow you 90 minutes of time shift or maybe one day. Or NONE at all. ABC just announced they are looking at it to disable the Fast Forward button...so be warned about the new telecom bill. Call your folks now. But be forwarned their eyes will glaze over if you use the phrase Broadcast Flag. Most do not even know what they are voting on. Unless it to enhance corporate bottomline then they perk up. If you do not know what a Broadcast Flag is, hit Google and watch it light up.

>> "this monitor features a pretty decent 1,680 x 1,050"
Since when has 1680x1050 been decent for a 22" display? I mean come on, I'm using 1600x1200 on my 19" CRT! I have to buy a new display soon, but I really don't feel like taking the resolution down a notch.

Here's another picture of her... I mean it:

List price looks to be $630 US (599,000.00 KRW). Hope it does make it to the states -- and at a discount.
