When Sharp does a product release it doesn't fool around, today announcing no less than 15 new additions to the venerable
AQUOS lineup: nine LCDs, four DVRs, and a pair of TV stands with built-in receivers and speakers. The displays can be broken down into two general categories -- those with side-mounted speakers and those with speakers underneath the screen -- and then further subdivided by resolution, with seven of the sets sporting 1,366 x 768 pixels and the other two (both 37-inchers) rocking a full 1080p. Models with speakers on the bottom come in 20-, 26-, 32-, and 37-inch varieties, while side-speaker units are available in 26-, 32-, or 37-inch flavors, with both types offering the 37-incher in your choice of resolutions. The higher-res sets also offer a better sound system, higher contrast ratios (1500:1 as opposed to 1200:1), and an extra HDMI port -- though every model sports at least one HDMI and one DVI input. Turning to the DVRs, the top of the line DV-ACW38 offers two digital tuners, one analog tuner, and an 800GB hard drive capacity, while the other three only have two tuners (one each of digital and analog) and rock either 400GB or 250GB HDDs (one of the two 250GB models also includes an antiquated VHS deck). one we saw from Sony not too long ago -- you're getting a digital receiver, two 1-inch tweeters, two 2.5-inch mids, and a 6-inch subwoofer, if not the most attractive design. As far as pricing goes, the LCDs range from 140,000 yen ($1,220) for the 20-incher up to 380,000 yen ($3,300) for either 1080p 37-inch model, the DVRs start at 100,000 yen ($870) and top off at 190,000 yen ($1,650), and either stand can be had for about 130,000 yen ($1,130). The entire lineup will be released steadily between September 1st and October 23rd, though for now, it looks like Japanese consumers will be the only ones picking these up. Is this true 1080p or is it the 1100x960 eye trick?
GARBAGE. PURE GARBAGE. Do a quick google search on Sharp AQUOS TVs going bad. You will find a lot of complaints. Some go bad with just days of purchase. All power related failures. My 18 month old 30" AQUOS just died out of the blue. Never abused, still looks new. One power component failed and caused a chain reaction which triggered two other failures. It will cost over $700 to repair.

I have to defend my favorite LCD manufacturer. If others are having problems with their units, I cannot attest to the vaildity of that. But I can put in my two cents on my own unit, a 32" that I have used heavily for over a year now. I use it as my main TV for movies and cable, gaming with PS2, XBOX and XBOX360 as well as a my office monitor connected to my mac. The unit is almost perpretually turned on and in use, and I've never had any problems.
If others are having problems, I'm sorry to hear that, truly, because IMO Sharp's Aquos is by far the best LCD line out there in every category. I would hate for them to get a bad name unless it is really warranted, and in my experience it is not.
My principal TV has been a Sharp Acquos which we bought new four years ago and have not had any problem with it. It works perfectly and has incredible brightness and sharpness.
This is an awsome line of products.
hey i have 37inch sharp aqous, its been setting in up in my desk for a month now - i cant really figure out how to adjust the resolution settings wen im running my desktop. i find it blurry not quiet wat i xpected with such an expensive thing. my 19inch lcd here works perfectly fine, with clear crisp graphics. i wanted that on my 37screen. is there some sort of addons or requirements fot it? can anybody please help me adjust my settings. please please i really need help.
