Alright everybody, things get busy tomorrow when His Steveness kicks off WWDC 2006 at 10:00AM PST / 1:00PM EST. We'll be on hand to cover the event, as well as to provide any live pre-game coverage, including Jonathan Ive's tailgater and the filming of WWDC Parking Lot. Be sure to stay tuned for late-breaking leaks (yay) and rumors (boo), and click on for some more shots of the made-over Moscone here in San Francisco (including that silly
WWDC banner).
Update: Makes sense to provide a few more time zones so you know when to show up if you're not on one coast or the other. Here, this oughta help a little:
7:00AM - Hawaii
10:00AM - Pacific
11:00AM - Mountain
12:00PM - Central
1:00PM - Eastern
5:00PM - GMT
6:00PM - London
7:00PM - Paris
2:00AM - Tokyo (August 8th)
Well, at least they're not being secretive about which event this is.
Security guard looking like he's having a blast.
The cutoff MacBook Pro -- it's just the entrance, people, nothing being hidden here.

the intels arnt 64bit, whats up with that.
Jake @ Aug 6th 2006 12:52PM
At the risk of stating the obvious, I think we're going to see some sort of 64-bit Intel Mac introduced. Otherwise, it wouldn't make sense to me to have the big "64-bit" sign on the banner, since the only current 64-bit Mac (the G5 tower) is supposedly on its way out.
hayroob @ Jun 9th 2008 12:41PM
the whole core 2 series is 64 bit
Josh @ Aug 6th 2006 12:59PM
Too late, I am here for student sunday already.
arthur barnhouse @ Aug 6th 2006 1:01PM
might just be the new xServe line. There have been a few rumors that apple won't go with a 64 bit in the new one. Although that would be stupid of them.
Inspectah deck @ Aug 6th 2006 1:14PM
ahh 64 bit - it means were getting core 2 in the iMac and MBP finally I can order my laptop, oh i mean notebook.
Thataboy @ Aug 6th 2006 1:21PM

"Mac OS X Leopard... Introducing Vista 2.0" :-D
Aw snap!
Josh @ Aug 6th 2006 1:27PM
Only Vista2? I would of thought it be more...
joel johnson @ Aug 6th 2006 1:27PM
To Kiantech in post #1, the Intel Pentium 4 Extreme edition supported 64 bit operations as do the Core 2 extreme processors.
See http://www.intel.com/technology/64bitextensions/ for more details.
Mr.Kaiser @ Aug 6th 2006 1:35PM
Black MacBook Pro with Merom (c'mon your stevieness.)
Shunnabunich @ Aug 6th 2006 1:39PM
OMG! Hahahaha...I thought perhaps you were linking to another (probably faked) screenshot demonstrating how much more awesome Leopard would be than Vista, Thataboy. :D Little did I know it's actually more in the realm of "Redmond, start your photocopiers." That's just great. Isn't it nice Apple can still get away with jabs like this?
Thomas Choe @ Aug 6th 2006 1:44PM
So does anyone have a link to the live streaming video of the keynote speech?
Mac @ Aug 6th 2006 1:46PM
Is that a new quicktime logo?
Wash Jones @ Aug 6th 2006 1:50PM
Poor security guard. You'd think they would at lest give him a gameboy or something. I mean, what is he even guarding there? That chair he is sitting on?
Alexdudman @ Aug 6th 2006 1:54PM
any chance of gettin the macbook specs bumped? going to buy 1 2moro and don't wanna get caught out by apple again after buying my ipod mini 1day before the nano came out :-(
Special_K @ Aug 6th 2006 1:56PM
Weeeee! 64Bit Core Duo FTW. Maybe even a quad-core (dual Core Duo) or an octople-core (quad Core Duo) Mac Pro. Too bad I already went for the MacBook Pro :( Imagine quad-core 64Bit Mac Pro with 512MB vRAM and 2 30-inch Cinema Displays... running Boot Camp! Crysis would cower before you in fear as you run it in 1440x900 with all the settings maxed out (did someone say 256x anti-aliasing?) and stil crank out 140 FPS! Boy oh boy would that kick ass!
Benson Leung @ Aug 6th 2006 1:57PM
Mac : The Q logo is the Quartz logo, not Quicktime.
Chris @ Aug 6th 2006 2:00PM
I don't think the 64 bit logo means anything at all. Apple currently ships a 64 bit machine, and everything on that banner represents currently shipping products--not upcoming products.
Will there be new 64 bit machines--probably yes. Does the logo portend new 64 bit machines--no.
Benson Leung @ Aug 6th 2006 2:03PM
It's pretty clear that Apple will have some sort of 64-bit support with the upcoming announced macs. Merom, Conroe, and Woodcrest would all be good bets to bring (back) 64-bit support to Mac OS X for Intel.
Only question is... how far will they take the 64-bit support. For the G5, it was basically limited to some math libraries and specialized command line type applications. GUI based apps were still 32-bit.
On the Intel platform, going with the 64-bit instruction set not only means having access to bigger pointers, but also twice as many registers. Should be interesting for developers how this goes down.
Mathew @ Aug 6th 2006 2:20PM
"I don't think the 64 bit logo means anything at all."
"Will there be new 64 bit machines--probably yes. Does the logo portend new 64 bit machines--no."
Come on Chris. Why even bother to post something as silly as the above? To state the obvious? Here I'll do it for you since you're incapable of being direct: Obviously there will be new 64 bit machines.
NicleT @ Aug 6th 2006 2:41PM
@ Thataboy, isn't VIVA ?
I know that Apple is giving Viva seminar, and the current Viva version is 1.1.2. Have they decide to add a full scientific soft integration?

Or maybe it's Viagra 2.0 ;
craig @ Aug 6th 2006 3:05PM
Hopefully your site won't go down with everyone refreshing like mad, it's happened a few times before with Apple events.
Ommid @ Aug 6th 2006 3:11PM
What time is that in GMT UK??
blackout @ Aug 6th 2006 3:15PM
6pm
Nathaniel @ Aug 6th 2006 3:21PM
NicleT seems right on the whole "Viva 2.0" guess. Maybe it's just me but it doesn't look like you could fit an "s" and a "t" in between that beam, though that would be quite the slap in the face at Microsoft.
Josh @ Aug 6th 2006 3:31PM
Thought the Vista 2 thing was photoshopped!
Although, if you click Orginal on size, you can see two dots next to the Vi (like= Vi:???a 2.0, possibly part of the S?
Matt @ Aug 6th 2006 3:40PM
I'm not going to be there.
icebin @ Aug 6th 2006 3:46PM
so cool! I would like to.....

This is a developer conference, not a consumer show. It is not open to the public. As such, there is not much of a chance of the keynote being televised. There isn't even a big MacWorld-like display floor -- the developers are there to attend technical discussions, not run around looking for swag.
Kevin @ Aug 6th 2006 4:00PM
riotgrrl:
It will be up as a video on Apple's site after the keynote. I think.
NicleT @ Aug 6th 2006 4:05PM
Ooops I wrote Viva instead of VIDA...
Richard @ Aug 6th 2006 4:56PM
Thomas Choe, coverage of the Keynote speech will probably be here:-
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mac.html
It will appear in the Quicktime guide on the right. Although Apple may probably mention it on their homepage... keep ur eyes peeled. You can still watch the WWDC05 keynote through the site, so the '06 one will be there.
Richard @ Aug 6th 2006 4:59PM
riotgrrl, sorry, but you couldn't be more wrong. Watch the '05 keynote here (through the Apple website):-

Ryan Block @ Aug 6th 2006 5:38PM
craig, the internet basically dies every time Jobs gets in front of an audience, but that said we're as prepared as we've ever been. I can't guarantee we won't go down, but I think the chances of our staying up are probably higher than most others'. Of course, if you guys prove me wrong then that only means you're awesome for turning to us for your live coverage.
WizeGuy @ Aug 6th 2006 6:05PM
The GMT Time is 6pm, not 5pm as stated.
6pm in London
Keaton @ Aug 6th 2006 6:31PM
They shouldn't give the poor security gaurd a Gameboy... They should give him an Ipod... Duh...
Lmao... And that picture on flickr... I think its a fake... I mean the seriously, If you were taking a "spy shot" wouldn't you try to get a good one... Theres a beam in the way of the most important part of the picture and its oh so convienent that theres also a bright streetlight obscuring the picture too...
One last thing... I think the whole 64 bit thing is about all of apple's servers and workstations switching over to Intel's new Woodcrest chips... Whatever it is, it should be interesting.

StooMonster @ Aug 6th 2006 6:49PM
GMT is 5pm, but UK is on BST or British Summer Time (or daylight adjusted time) atm and is therefore an hour ahead of GMT, so event is at 6pm London time. GMT is not adjusted for daylight hours.
Fred @ Aug 6th 2006 7:56PM
When I first saw the post I though 'Looks like Engadget has forgotten about it's overseas readership once again.' Now I see you haven't. It might be a small thing but it shows that you're not toally US centric like some sites (and people) out there. Nice job guys.
david @ Aug 6th 2006 9:30PM
pff, fine dont include Arizona time.
jorge @ Aug 6th 2006 9:54PM
someone already owns the Madeforipod.com name. Can they be sued by apple if they develop it?
They are asking for funding. Is that legal?
Since it is a developers' conference, would it be a smart movce to announce any kind of hardware like ipods and phones?

Don't worry, he's just spooked by our superiority in time keeping. Daylight savings is for suckers.
By the way, 64 bit across the Pro and Xserve product lines, without a doubt. I'm not sure about the imac and mini, but it is a drop in replacement, so probably.
Penn @ Aug 6th 2006 10:45PM
Special_K
you're on crack...no way would you run a quad dual core machine with only 512mb of ram with two displays...thats just as insane as me legally expecting to own the final version of vista tomorrow
Joe Smith @ Aug 6th 2006 11:12PM
Penn, I think Special K meant vRAM, meaning a 512 MB VIDEO CARD running two displays.
noname989 @ Aug 6th 2006 11:20PM
Special_K
Crysis and 512MB of RAM don't belong in the same sentence. Try more like 2GB or maybe 4GB...
Ethyriel @ Aug 6th 2006 11:22PM
He said 512MB of VRAM. That's video RAM. But Apple being Apple, the base model would probably be 512MB system memory, too. But then, I can't see them offering quad cores across any products board, so you'd probably get 1GB standard with any quad core offering were it announced tomorrow.
I wouldn't be surprised by quad core options on the xserves and pro towers, but they certainly don't need to in order to maintain their customary marketing oneupsmanship. So I would expect them to save it for later, Apple is all about pace.
z @ Aug 7th 2006 1:20AM
Is there a Snapple worldwide developer conference too?
