Sony releases FJ290 customizable, colorful notebook line
Although Sony's new colorful notebook lineup lacks the class demonstrated on the wooden laptop we've seen, the personalized approach is in full effect with the FJ290 series. The laptop comes with one of five different lids -- Pink Feather, Orange Flower, Green Flower, Orange Burst, and Blue Burst -- reportedly designed to "reflect an individual's personality." Sony also allows you to engrave up to two lines of text just above the keyboard on the inner casing, just in case you really want to destroy any and all hope for resale. While we know the bright colors are the real draw here, the FJ290 rocks a modest 14.1-inch WXGA display, Intel Pentium Celeron (or M) processor, 512MB of RAM, 40GB hard drive, DVD+R dual-layer burner, built-in webcam, and 802.11b/g, but since the specs are as customizable as the paintjob, you can mix and match the innards to fit your needs (and budget). The oh-so-vivid base configurations are available now for around $1,449.

Uhhh base config is $1129.98. Hell even the pre-config'd models are less ($1399). What are you smoking?
Dell has had a free "skin" promotion all month with all Inspiron notebook purchases - basically, order the notebook and get a free vinyl decal of 50 different colleges or 20-30 other designs (generally, artsy, abstract stuff, similar to what Sony is offering above)
Taking a que from Dell, I see, Sony?
I wonder if this will be a new trend in computer color schemes. From beige to black to silver, and now custom decals.
Looks a helluva lot better than those Dell designs.
I disagree

Shucks, they don't have one with FLAMES!
barf. on both sony and dell. For shame.
Somewhere I hear the Stones singing "She's A Rainbow" and see those Sonys swirling around. Steve WILL sue!
Hmmm... what's so fab about marijuana-Smoking 70's inspired decals? The only "normal" one seems to be the Blue one.
Wouldn't these inserts be flimsy?
nothing to do with dell. Compare the above ad with this very very old one:

man NINTENDO made a pink DS, Sony did a pink PSP
Dell made skins for laptops sony does it too
and many more........BE CREATIVE !!
Damn Sony bashers. I think it's a good idea, but to get me into it, they would need to let me upload my own picture and have it put on there in a way that is guaranteed not to wear off over a long period of time.
I dont see them as copying anyone else, just as jumping on the same wagon.
As for the comment about them arranging the laptops in a circle, you must be the same Apple employee who wants to sue everyone and their mother because they use the combination of letters "Pod". Just chill already, anyone can arrange laptops and damn way they please without being called a copy cat by some close minded tech kid.
One more thing.. In my opinion, Sony makes the best looking laptops out there. While Apple plays with metal and plastic laptops, sony makes designs that are a pleasure to look at, not just a white or silver box. I may be a fanboy, but I don't see any Dell laptop that looks anything near as sexy as a Sony Vaio, so if you think I'm stupid, show me a better looking laptop.
Since when were "skins" Dell's idea? Nokia...anyone?
Sony makes the best looking laptops out there.
also i think NEC is great design, but the types is too few.
