The folks at
Alienware haven't really made their trade on budget price-points, but their new line of
Core 2 Duo laptops has some of the best pricing we've seen for the new processor. Of course, to score the 17-inch m5750 for it's base price of $1,399 you'll have to settle for the 1.66GHz T5500 Core 2 Duo, a 60GB HDD, 512MB of RAM and a CD-RW / DVD ROM combo drive, but the specs only go up from there, and all m5750 configurations include an ATI Radeon Mobility X1800 card with 256MB of memory. The other laptops feature similarly weak base configurations, but even better prices. The 15.4-inch Area-51 m5550 starts at $899, while the 14.1-inch Sentia m3450 hits $849. All three models have the full range of Core 2 Duo chips available to them, from the T5500 to the 2.33GHz T7600, other than the Sentia which omits the middling T5600. The laptops are due to ship in the first half of September.

Oh dear. This is going to make it very hard to justify my waiting for merom mbps to drop for my college laptop.
And the thing (m5500) is pretty darn cheap, too!
Wait it out man. I'm going to. You'll regret it.
Oh great, now I can't decide on a Dell or an Alienware. Help!
An 14" Alienware lappie for under $1000? That's good for someone who wants something small that looks different than your standard Dell/HP/Lenovo.
Yeah it won't be long before the new quadcore's get released. I'll be waiting for this.
Did you know, that Alienware is not a manufacturer of computers? Alienware buys already confiquered computers from companies like Clevo located in Taiwan and then out thier name on them.
Clevo make darn good computers and sells to many other companies.
Why don't these Alienware dummies integrate BT into their mega-expensive laptops? Who wants to mess with stupid external USB keys these days?
We've got ultra-portables with WAN, LAN, and PAN wireless ALL simultaneously integrated - the latest versions of each - plus features like biometric fingerprint readers and MP cameras, along with everything else and other great features. Once again, the Ultra-portables have all of this.
So why the freak can't Alienware get their act together on BT and WAN wireless? Especially with the prices they charge?
(Oh yeah, and Alienware, please offer the Intel Core 2 Duo with your 19" screen, SLI-equipped laptop!!!)
Alienware!!! Time to wake up!!!
