HP's nx6310 and nx6320 go Core 2 Duo
Next up to board the Merom train is Hewlett Packard, with Core 2 Duo versions of its 14.1-inch nx6310 (pictured) and 15.0-inch nx6320 laptops. At their cheapest configurations, both machines sport a 1.66GHz T5500 processor, integrated graphics, CD-ROM drive (blah), and a 40GB hard drive, with the 6310 rocking 256MB of RAM and the 6320 sporting 512MB. The nx6320 also has double the USB 2.0 ports (four versus two), ups the Ethernet to Gigabit status, and throws in an ExpressCard slot in place of the 6310's PCMCIA. Of course with these fairly weak specs come pretty low prices as well: when they go on sale next week, the nx6310 will start at just 96,600 yen ($825) while the base nx6320 will also be priced under a grand at 111,300 yen ($950).

This is nothing. Dell just put Core 2 Duo in its XPS Laptops. You heard it here first. From ya boy Eazy.

What??
Is HP sh*tting bricks (albeit with a good chip).

That is one ugly computer, but then again it's what on the inside that counts, right?

Not just the XPS laptops either. Dell has put them in practically ALL their laptops, including the M1210, M1710, M2010, E1705, M65 and M90. Dell admits, though, there may be at least a 10 day delay if you order a Merom-based laptop...

No, it's build quality that counts. These are business laptops, dull black is the way to go. And they certainly won't start creaking and cracking like consumer notebooks tend to after a few months.
That said, the nx6310 has always been a 15" laptop, I wonder where they got 14" from. I'm much more interested in an nc6230 refresh, it would be like a Thinkpad T series with a decent 14" screen.

Anyone know if HP will be putting C2D into their consumer notebooks (especially the dv2000t) anytime soon?

I have a small army of NX9010 I have to maintain. If these are of the same quality, run away. I've never had a set of machines that went through hard drives so quickly, it's a joke.

We've been maintaining a fleet of 500 or 600 HP laptops where I work, and have been for the last 8 years. Our latest model is the NC6220. So far it's not bad (a helluva lot better than the NC6000) but in general, ALL of the HP/Compaq machines we've purchased over the years have had significant hard drive problems. Toshiba, IBM, and Hitachi drives have graced the innards of our machines and it doesn't seem to matter who makes them, they just keep failing. About 1 in 20 laptop drives fail completely (controller failure). HP is great about replacing them but it still sucks to have a drive crash.
And as far as design goes, HP is notorious for posting the most pathetically low-res pics of their equipment on their web site. The picture doesn't do it justice. This 6310 is nearly identical on the outside to the NC6220 and they're actually quite nice. The keyboard on these latest models is excellent, although it looks like they're not including the little eraser nubby finger mouse thingy which I happen to like.
