Until now, hardcore
Hello Kitty fans deeply lamented the fact that their laptops were clashing with their
iPods, cellphones, and
SD cards. Fear not, legions of the
kawaii army, Sanrio Japan has just released an
Epson Endeavor NA101 rebranded with Kitty's lovely mug (or optionally, 20 of her mugs) on the cover. You'll pay a ¥44,000 ($376) premium for this though, compared to the un-Kittyified blank NA101. But really, that's such a small price to pay to have the cutest computer in Shibuya.

Yes, i don't quite get it, what exactly is this Hello Kitty thing? Some kind of japanese trend??
pwcsquared @ Sep 2nd 2006 10:53AM
I had no idea that "hard-core" Hello Kitty fans actually had enough technology to clash with their Hello Kitty stuff.
s-man @ Sep 2nd 2006 11:09AM
kawaii ne!??
no. not kawaii. ugly.
and to reply to pwcsquared:
the cellphone industry in japan was pushed forward greatly because of girls that like hello kitty. Teenage girls brought a huge amount of capital to the phone companies, who then took it and expanded to where they are today.
They are a force to be reckoned with and yes, they have lots of technology.

you guys wouldn't have any ideas how us asians would go crazy for that thing. Even though I live in Thailand, believe it or not, 4 out of 9 ex-girlfriends in my memory worship every single thing that has Hello Kitty on it, purses, handbags, mirrors, cell phones, mp3 players, and one of them even asked me to decorate my car in HELLO KITTY....... yeah.. pillows, stickers, car paint and everything inside. My ex-girlfriends were 18-25. Oh, my boss, 35 years old, also is one of the Hello Kitty worshippers.
I don't know about any other asian countries but the impact on this "kawaii" japanese trend is pretty bad in Thailand.
Although it's kinda handy, instead of buying roses to apologize to my girlfriends, i could just buy anything Hello Kitty and she will actually turn to love me more.

I'm more surprised that Epson makes notebook computers, than I am that there is a Hello Kitty version.
Too bad I had to click to find out what an Endeavor was.

Why is it flipp'n me off?
Aaron @ Sep 3rd 2006 4:38AM
Ohhh man, Alex C, this goes WAY beyond a trend. Hello Kitty goes back two or three decades and is nothing short of a phenomenon, and shows no signs of letting up any time soon. They've got Hello Kitty everything, from electronics and school supplies all the way to vibrators (seriously). Pick just about any object you can think of, and you can bet there's a Hello Kitty-ized version of it out there.
Whether you like it (or believe it) or not, this silly new thing is going to sell like crazy, just like the rest of it.

..from the day I put HK on my macbook cover, it has carried out nice job of repelling guys (read "nerds") while attracting the opposite sex. Go figure? See below:

..and right, there is an apple in the HK's forehead,
sorry for that; an apple a day keeps doctor away,
when thrown from short distance..
Cheers,
Takku

Alex @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:48PM
Why does everything have to have "hello kitty"?
