Creative's 60GB Zen Vision:M now shipping?
While everyone was focused on the hubbub surrounding the launch of the Zen Vision W and settlement with Apple, Creative quietly went ahead and gave the Zen Vision:M a bump in disk like we've been expecting. The new 60GB player is available in either black and white (only) and appears identical to its 30GB sib albeit with the inclusion of a USB hosting capability -- a slick, convenient way to quickly transfer data off USB-enabled devices (think your digital cameras snaps) without a PC. Unfortunately, while the Creative website has plenty of deets on the 60 gigger, the Creative store makes no mention of the new player at all. Fubar. Anyway, expect this to get sorted in hours or days with the price to mirror that other 60GB player pretty closely at around $399.

Black and White only? Great, those that want different colors in the 60 will have to wait on Apple to add it to their line first, then watch as Creative follows.
As for as thickness:
30GB - 104 x 62 x 18.6mm
60GB - 104 x 62 x 22.1mm

It looks like Apple torpedoed the 60gb market with an 80gb player (notice that they pulled the 60gb from most of the website). How can creative now come out with a 60gb model at $50 higher price than the 80gb ipod? This would mean that the 30gb model will get DIRT CHEAP, no?
Creative has a choice.. either get "creative" on pricing, or intantly lower prices below the ipod aggressively so that the 60gb model is priced at the 30gb price ($249)?

Hurrah. I was about to get the Gigabeat S only because it had 60GB capacity. Looks like I'll get the 60GB Zen Vision M, now.

Jeez...this has been on Creative's worldwide site for ages (and it was in a Wired Magazine ad about 2 months ago). I've just been waiting for it to show up on Creative's U.S.-shipping site (us.creative.com). So no, it's not shipping [to the U.S.] now.

Sorry for the double post :(
If Engadget would do a little looking, the full specification sheet for the Zen Vision: W is just one click away from their read link (it's been up for a long time, too) :)
Keep your composure, Engadget!

ccutlip, you're missing the point. We already knew it was announced, thus I wrote "gave the Zen Vision:M a bump in disk like we've been expecting." with a backlink to the annoucement we covered. But to say "available now" usually means, available now to purchase, not available now to read the specs, dig?

It's up on the Singapore site. Of course, that still leaves all of us soory sods in the US groping at thin air. And dang, 22.1mm! That's almost an inch thick.
Big B @ Sep 4th 2006 11:41AM
sorry for the double post, but the 60 gig also has a longer (16 hrs as compared to 40 hrs) battery time.

so Fubar is casual slang meaning "kinda messed up"?
...because i can't really imagine this tiny snafu qualifying as being "Fucked up beyond all recognition." (fubar)

What?! No GREEN?! Why?! Now what am I going to do. I don't want Black or White...people will think it's an iPod.
the.only.id.left @ Sep 5th 2006 5:10AM
ah gay! i just bought the 30gig version...damn it!!! i've completely filled mine..damn i need that extra 30gb (although not sure if i want it to be 3mm thicker...it's plenty thick enough as it is)
the usb host function is the best god damn idea i've ever heard!! i'm a keen photographer and ALWAYS end up filling my mem cards way too quickly.

I'm just waiting for zen vision 60 gb. This product is not available in USA stores yet.

Creative may possibly be waiting to release the 60 GB version until after the discount codes issued from their Audigy soundcard class action suit expires shortly. I couldn't wait any longer and got the 30 GB version for $187.50 so I guess I can't complain.
LaCam83 @ Oct 22nd 2006 10:43PM
Where did do you get the M:vision 30 GB for $187.50?
stan smith @ Oct 19th 2006 1:53AM
I spoke to Creative Europe this week and they said the 60 GB will be available in the UK Dec 2006/Jan 2007.
Its like waiting for Christmas.

Hi,
Any idea which physical stores I can buy this in - ie. not online - in the Long Island area?
Thanks,

I purchased a 30Gig and a 60Gig model to give as gifts. The 30Gig unit included an AC Charger, but the 60Gig did not. Anyone out there with a 60Gig unit that included the AC charger?
Thanks

The first couple of months that I had this player,I found it terrific.
It had a great sound quality long lasting battery and al.
After a few months though, first problems arose.
The battery didn t last as long as before, actually didn t last long at all any more,
but I was ok with that, same happens with cell phones right?
However that besides the fading battery, the mp3 player become stuck from time to time
and I had to reset it from time to time. Then came the final blow,a hard disc problem.
Resetting, reloading firmware didn t help so I contacted creative support where it as agreed that
they 'd replace the mp3 player as I still had warranty.
Couple of months after that the EXACT same problems arose and again the hard disc problem occurred.
This time my warranty was expired though.
I kept all previous correspondence to prove I had had the same problem before,
bus as I was out of warranty they didn t want to fix the player any more though it was the exact same problem!
It then became clear to me why Creative is cheaper then I pod.
So my advice to you is,safe yourself all the troubles, buy a product that lasts LONGER than the warranty.
I feel betrayed by Creative and will never ever buy a product from them again.
