A look back on popular stories from today in a specific year.

Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
judging by that ipod banner, no new ipod!?! boooo!!!!!
Releasing a new iPod on 'It's Showtime' instead of Apple's birthday wouldn't be a suitable idea.
Apple wouldn't make an enormous banner of their new product and put it out for display before Jobs had his chance to introduce it. What it does tell you, IMHO, is that iPod related stuff is 100% guaranteed tomorrow.
That banner has to be real. There's no way anyone could do that in Photoshop or even Paint Shop Pro.
Why not?
I worry about any male that calls Jobs "his Steveness".
Makes me think the person wants to have romantic relations with the apple CEO.
i totally agree with benson.
no way photoshop nor paint shop pro could have done that; you'd have to have, oh, i don't know, a professional shop that does photo editing, and that's like x-files.
my gut sez "for real".
Seriously - we're going to see a 32GB solid-state iPod nano.
the competition will be blown away :)
That banner could easily be done in Photoshop CS2. People need to learn how to use Vanishing Point and masks.
Cmon Unimog, admit it. You would so do Stevie. It's unhealthy to suppress your true feelings.
competition... LOL
What are the odds that stevie tells the audience that he's had it with Ipods... it's driving him insane, especially with patent infringment crap... and that he's going to kill off all Ipods...!
Except this one thing called a Vpod!
I was hoping for an 8GB nano but when I can buy 2GB memory sticks (SD, MS Duo) for £20, it doesn't seem that unfeasible that there could be something in the region of a 16GB nano. I have no interest in the bigger ipods, i don't understand why they get more press attention than the nano which is the more popular and my psp plays videos so I can carry that when I want a large device with me.
if they introduce a 32GB solid-state player tomorrow, i'd consider them in the running for a monopoly suit on flash RAM, the only thing after that would be, who would be the first to prosecute: M$ or Creative?
You know, I am so glad engadget did those timezones. THANKYOU! I can't wait until tomorrow evening now (london time for me)
You retards! That banner is just a picture from their new ad , check it here

Why are people asking for 8gb nano & 16 gb?
some people are realy stupid and dont see the intended nanos market.
Stop asking for ridicoulous products and get with the program
do we really need a 16gb ipod nano? for what so that people complain about it not being 20gb's? and unleasing pathetic cries about how 16gb does not hold all their music collection.
get serious already damn
@Darth Tony
LMAO!! Yup - I'm jellus Ryan is getting all the action.
Forget a new iPod; I'd settle for decent printer support in the next rev of OSX. I've got 4 printers sitting here, and *none* of them have any driver support by either Apple or the vendor. There's drivers for *nix, and even the generic printer driver under Windows will print on all of them.
Thanks for nothing, Steve.
I am going to fly to Hawaii so i can find out what it is three hours earlier!
What is stupid about a high-capacity nano?
I'd love to have my entire music collection on a player the size of a stick of juicy fruit.
Also there have been rumors of the lossless audio format from itunes. a 7 minute FLAC file is about 150mb, so I imagine apple lossless is roughly the same.
ImDShhhh - i think you need to get with the program - within the next year or so I would predict there will be no hard drive based ipods (at least none aimed at the audio market) so it is inevitable that the flash based players will continue to increase in capacity.
The nanos market is everyone - if they were 20GB+ then the market share they have would be even higher as they would store most peoples music collections with ease and then why would people choose to buy a larger device other than to watch video.
The October 2005 event (where the 5G iPod was released) had posters showing a larger screened iPod and the headphone socket on the right.
@Bradc
We're talking about the banner pictured here:
http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/10/video-ipod-banner-for-september-12th/
Will there be a website where we can watch the announcement live? I know engadget is doing coverage and posting it. But I want to see it as well.
Hahahah, so much for that cocky ad.
so gilbert... those *nix drivers wouldn't be CUPS drivers, would they?
because those should work with OSX just fine...
Gilbert, next time before buying a printer take a look at the box.
If Mac OS X isn't mentioned under system requirements or anywhere else, it probably won't work.
Daveoc64, don't you think apple learned that leason. I doubt they'll show a pic of the new one before hand. It will give more of us a shock when its released.
i hope they just change the two panels after the anouncement.
Alaska is also a state in the US. with its own timezone. Hawaii gets listed. so what's the deal? are you racist against Alaska?
I would love a bluetooth iPod. All you would need is a charger and your music syyncs wirelessly. That would make my day. I doubt it will happen but if it does, i would buy it as long as its under 500 bucks
Yes, I'm sure they're getting everybody together to announce support for additional printers within OS X. Apple themselves created these fake banner pictures to throw people off.
its showtime sounds like movies, other titles of speaches have been related to products so im assuming video itunes and a possible video ipod tho im not couting on that
I've just closed down iTunes 6 for the last time! 7, here we come! Plus an 8GB iPod nano, with no aesthetic makeover.
I agree with the above poster (gilbert), Printer support, and driver support in general needs to be improved on Mac OSX. It should be as good, if not better than Windows. The problems is vendors make drivers for the masses, leaving OSX out to dry. This is one of the reasons I'm sadly selling my Macmini and upgrading my existing Windows machine to Vista. The printer drivers, among many other small drawbacks (i.e. horrible Palm Desktop) added up.
Mambo - the nano does need an aesthetic makeover - the aluminium enclosure on the mini was better as you could chuck it around and put it in your pockets without worry - same material in black, silver and white options would be fantastic in the same form factor as the current nano
Ryan Block, wheres Hong Kong/ China time? nearly a quarter of the worlds population live in that time zone!
Just a quick message for Gibson regarding those four printers? I THINK YOU'LL FIND.....its often the manufactuers who create incompatible firmware for mac. look at graphics cards, something like a nvidia 5200 works great on mac if you flash the firmware, the drivers exist but the manufactuer locks it in order to charge double for a mac version. so before you start blaming his steveness. do your homework.
Here ends thy lesson.....
Judging from the satellite truck, it looks like apple's going to release a new broadband adapter for the ipod video linked via satellite connection......
Snife - yes, aluminium, maybe.
Perhaps, alongside iTunes 7, we will be seeing an all-new program. The name is staring us in the face
.... SHOWTIME ....
It's got to be. It'll be merged with quicktime, and both iTunes and Showtime will be available together. Showtime Movie Store, anyone?
Hah, my friend works at itunes, and the power has been out most of the day today. They say it will be back up tomorrow, but i wonder if that will affect this release... hehe.
He isn't working on this project though, so he wasn't able to say. All i know is that he did see superman when he was organizing TV shows recently...

My guess is that the satellite truck, for that feed to London, could be to announce the fact that movies will be for sale in the US and UK iTunes Media Store (a contractual nightmare), or, for that "one more thing" moment where they announce the iPod phone "Mobile Me" HSDPA service thru Cingular in the US and maybe Vodafone in the UK for starters.
I think Apple is about due for a pretty good "one more thing" surprise, even if it isn't a phone. It would certainly help the stock price.
once again, where is the love for arizona time?
GMT -7
I will be here at my desk, constantly pressing refresh.. Waiting for the big news. I personally think that it WILL be a new ipod. I also think that it will be a "true" video ipod. I know, I know, I am setting my sights high. But all the evidence points to a video ipod. I mean come on, "It's showtime"?
I think that along side the "true" video ipod, I think that they will also release the video service that everyone has been talking about.
Alright, good luck Engadget! I will be watching.
BTW, "His Steveness" is hilarious.
No time zone for Australia...?
Don't you know you have a ton of readers there?
Sydney: 3:00 AM
Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Hobart: 3:00 AM
Adelaide, Darwin: 2:30 AM

"Perhaps, alongside iTunes 7, we will be seeing an all-new program. The name is staring us in the face
.... SHOWTIME ...."
You mean something like this... www.delicious-monster.com
What are the makes of those 4 printers?
Model numbers would be helpful.
You guys are all going to be SO DISAPPOINTED tomorrow when the Stevester announces:
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our special event, which will run for approximately 5 hours.
"We know you were so thrilled when last time we announced the iPod Hi-Fi speakers, so today we are pleased to announce...
"Apple iPod Hi-Fi 2: now with built-in clock and snooze button!"
"So let me give you a demo... It's showtime!"
I don't think you want to sync over Bluetooth, that would be an exercise in frustration. You are only going to get about 1Mbps speed - which is in the range of broadband internet download speeds. People think that syncing over USB 1.1 was dog slow, and that's 12Mbps, multiply that by ten.
Ah ill be picking up the new iPod the 2nd tomorrow at the store... :)
Oops, I made a mistake, I meant to say "multiply the sync time by ten" at the end of the last post. Otherwise it doesn't make sense.
