Nobu intros N8 touchscreen in-wall PC
So if the JackPC is lacking in the power / functionality department, and you're going for that svelte, in-wall look to complement your flush WiFi installation, Nobu's got just the thing. Known for its sleek in-wall PC designs, Nobu is busting out an 8-inch touchscreen version -- dubbed the N8 -- that packs either a 600MHz Intel Celeron M or 1.1GHz Pentium M CPU, 512MB of DDR RAM, 802.11a/b/g, Ethernet, a (thoughtfully included) 4GB SSD, and a trio of USB 2.0 ports; this household regulator also sports built-in speakers / mic, audio out, VGA out, and comes loaded with Windows XP Professional. The company touts its "noiseless design" and "visual attractiveness," citing the fanless CPUs and disk drive as the quiet culprits. While it's stated that the currently unpriced N8 can handle any household task imaginable whenever it begins to ship, we'll just be happy that we can digitize new faces onto Engadget HQ's Magic Message Mirror right from the wall.

be good if they upped the processor abit, added media centre edition, made it alot bigger, and added (alot) to its small 4GB of storage

Why would you want more than 4GB? surely all you need is enought o boot XP and a couple of apps, then just mount your network shares with any media you want to play on the device.

XP - after its updates can take a LOT more than 4GB, if you are the type to keep things up to date - and if you are on the internet with this, you will want to up date those things when they are available. 4GB is nothing.

Can someone tell me the point of this?

Ever heard of home automation?
SRD @ Sep 24th 2006 3:18PM
The point of this is simple. Home automation. I do custom home theatres and use something similar made by RTI though it runs a different OS. you can control you house with it view security cameras, stream music basically anything you want. very handy to have.

i agree with you but i want to see a media center version of this (using pmc 2.0 with some additions for instance). IMO thats the single biggest advantage of media center and its extenders is you have the same interface on every tv in your house. And if you get a pmc in wall device you could have a single ui everywhere in the home.
Teaching people one interface is hard enough and a complete solution like this would be great.

it's things like this that make me wish you could choose to run Vista MC as an extender to another Vista MC. Does anyone know if this is in the pipeline?
