Nokia N75 packs 3G for US shores
We're not getting played for a fool again until we actually have a real, actual device resting comfortably in our hands, but Nokia's promising to bring the 3G love to the US for reals this time with its new N75 clamshell, announced today as part of its Nseries onslaught. The S60 3rd Edition handset looks to pack a decent punch into its 95 x 52 x 20.2mm form -- which Nokia is dubbing its "smallest multimedia computer," bearing in mind the E50 isn't considered such a device -- bringing a 2-megapixel cam, 40MB of internal storage with microSD expansion to 2GB, integrated stereo speakers, Bluetooth 2.0, QVGA internal and 160 x 128 external displays, quad-band GSM / EDGE, and some of that sweet, sweet WCDMA on the 850 and 1900MHz bands. Best of all, it's being promised for US release in the fourth quarter of 2006; we don't if you-know-who has decided to pick it up, but if not, we've every reason to believe the unlocked versions will be flying out of Nokia's own warehouse at a brisk pace. Check after the break for more smooth, creamy, flippable S60 goodness.

Does anyone even care about Nokia and it's thousands of new phones everyday?
exst @ Sep 26th 2006 1:29PM
When will US get some proper 3G service already! And umm, yey for Nokia I guess.

Wow looks like a nice phone. Sure wish verizon would come out with something this nice....
Rcadden @ Sep 26th 2006 1:47PM
Looks great, but I'll keep my N73. No A2DP, no auto-focus, and only an 800mAh battery don't thrill me. Kinda sad, though, the US 3G would be AWESOME here in Dallas.

i'm still holding out for the N93.. i'm hoping cingular will pick it up soon

@ Mr. Mean:
yes, if it means innovation and a manifestation of the sheer brilliance Nokia brings to the usability of mobile devices!
and personally, I'm always thrilled because the ID is so bad ass :)

Looks nice, as long as the >>>basic funtions work

Where are those side-view pics that made the RAZR fly?! I guess they still couldn't make it that cool. But the direction is right, now just head to some serious arse-kissing in Seattle/Atlanta...

When will Nokia give up on Symbian... Also, what's with their lack of A2DP?
bender @ Sep 27th 2006 9:06AM
Have you actually ever used S60/symbian?
There is a reason these are called multimedia computers. You just have to experience it to believe it. You can install programs, move the shortcuts around, create your own folders and place apps there, perhaps create a folder for your ebooks, install an ebook reader for it for free...
You just have to experience Nokia's interface to understand how far behind Motorola and Samsung are.
On my Samsung I have the basic icons in the menu. I can send messages and make calls and take pictures. That's it. It's so restricted.
There are literally tens of thousands of free programs for the S60 OS, from games to cooksbooks to ebook readers to file management programs.
Sure, razr is thin but that's becasue it packs 3 year old hardware.
Henrikki @ Sep 27th 2006 2:55PM
What's with the thin mania anyway? I've tried the Razr and the keypad is like,..almost unusable. Granted, I only fondled it for something like 15 minutes..Does anyone have different axperience in this matter?

Here is the response that I got from the Cingular Washington/Baltimore product manager.
The version for retail and agents will be released in late April/early May timeframe. There is a national retail version that is hitting soon in Best Buy’s, the version we get will have an updated easier to use menu system.
Thanks!
