Fujitsu recalls 287,000 notebook batteries
Fujitsu has put a number on its recent recall of Sony-manufactured notebook batteries, with 287,000 Fujitsu notebook owners being affected. This latest figure brings the total number of Sony battery recalls in recent months to more than 7.5 million, of which the vast majority (5.9 million) are from Dell and Apple. Although this appears to be a pre-emptive recall -- as far as the company can tell, no Fujitsu laptops have actually exploded -- the company is still recommending that its users give them a call if their machine is one of the 20+ models listed. did u guys here all the PS3s at TGS 2006 were overheating? This reason is because of the conditions the PS3s were running on, meaning the atmosphere, have u ever been a non breathing dance floor, yay that is how it was, plus the systems were running 10 hours a day. 200,000 ppl attended TGS 2006, that is bigger then the Games Convention in Europe n E3 2006 (no longer available to the public). Here is a straight to the point article about it:

as for the exploding laptops (does a goodbye kiss) welcome to the club!

Well it's a good thing PS3's don't have lithium-ion batteries!

"PS3s at TGS were having overheating problems due to the close quarters of multiple machines in unventilated kiosks"
"Close quarters" not unlike that of an entertainment/audio rack.
"Multiple machines" not unlike audio amplifiers and receivers.

Are we still allowed to bring laptops onto airplanes?

How come Gateway has not been affected by these battery recalls? I could really use a new battery.
Phoenixfury @ Oct 4th 2006 1:42PM
S.A. I just contacted Gateway tech support with that very question. The reason Gateway isn't affected is because they don't use Sony batteries. They use a totally different company, and they assured me that their notebook batteries are quite safe. I can't remember what brand name they said it was, but they definitely are not Sony.

Own a Fujitsu N Series Lifebook; can report a quality product and good customer service. Still, it's reassuring to read that the company is stepping up without having to be badgered, pressured, or shamed into solving a technical problem.

is SONY themselves recalling any batteries from their notebooks? Ooooooooooooooooooh, I smell scandal!
Sony is so screwed. EEEEEEEEEEEEW.

How come HP batteries are not recalled? Acer? Do they not use Sony batteries at all?
