When it comes to Apple's product roadmap, to say there's an enormous amount of buzz and milling of rumors is a ridiculous understatement. Believe it or not we tend to have to disregard the majority of rumors floating around (or that get sent in to us); that said, when not only one, but multiple trusted sources get in touch to let us know Steve Jobs & Co. are supposedly finally about completed with the wireless /
video iPod, we have to take note. Supposedly they're preparing to announce the device in the very near future, which we've been told is both wireless and widescreen (both
features we've been
waiting for the iPod to take on, since, well, forever) -- you didn't think last month's
new nano /
new shuffle /
iTV event was going to be it for the rest of the year, did you? We'll keep you posted.
Apple can't work magic, they use the same chips and batteries as every other manufacturer out there. If Apple would release a ~4" WS player with WiFi expect it to:
a: have crappy battery life or
b: pack quite a lot more volyme and weight than the current-gen players.
Have a look at todays PMP's from Archos et al, there you have your future video iPod, not a slick 5"WS*140g*10mm, more like 5"WS*250g*20mm.
Anh-han... More one iPod do-all-things rumor...
Wifi is the future, Apple will be making a huge mistake to let Microsoft have the floor like it has had with Sony in the video game console department. Apple iPods feel more like a refreshment of old products, time to continue innovation.
Perhaps Zune's legacy will be that it finally got Apple to embrace the benefits of wireless in a digital audio player.
Nice that Apple's catching up, apparently. If this rumor's true, it'll be exciting to see how Apple incorporates wireless functionality into the iPod design..!!

That thing is so ridiculously huge? And a touch screen? Does smudge marks ring a bell? Apple is so desperate. This thing is so ugly it hurts.
Now they need to integrate live tv with mobitv and they're set.
It looks interesting, however, the large touch-screen (which is beautiful, by all means) would need some extra protection from smudges, scratches, and cracks than those of the other iPods, and a specially designed case with a clear window allowing full functionality would have to be made for it. The price for this gadget would also be pretty steep, I'm sure; I'm guessing $300-$400. I'm still planning on buying a Zune because I like its reasonable $250 price, its built-in FM radio feature, and its large screen. The WiFi feature is also nice.
