Well, apparently
Sony caught wind of the
reports of possible
PS3 delays in Europe and has vehemently denied them. According to an unnamed Sony spokesperson quoted in
GamesIndustry.biz: "Any reports of a further delay to the launch of the PS3 in Europe are categorically not true. We are still fully committed to a March 2007 launch date.
Ken Kutaragi has not done any media briefings since the Tokyo Game Show, and the story is not true." So there you have it Europeans, you can rest easy now -- you've still got only five months to come up with those
500 euros ($627).
I hope this is false, but ultimately time will tell.
0kay, i hate to bitch and moan, and please dont flame me for this, but can Engadget please stop using that 'shopped image of a PS3? Being only the second(?) post, i know that it hasnt come up yet, but eventually, someone will comment saying "if its gonna be that big, i wont buy it."
/rant
Shut up Farris, that pic is hilarious!
So, they are claiming that the first or the second delay isn't true?
"We delayed PS3 launch in Europe already. Any reports of delays are false, unless the delays come from us. Once we have announced a delay, then it is no longer a delay since it is the official new launch date and can't be delayed because it is official." %-O
Did you miss the part where it says, "We are still fully committed to a March 2007 launch date." ?
And that picture is only funny if your retarded. Add me to the list of people sick of seeing it.
F the ps3 i want a Wii. And i waited inline this morning and EBGames only had 12 available??? whats up with that?
@James Zdaniewski,
I don't think there will be a need to preorder a wii.... there will be plenty for the holidays... in the other hand... the ps3 will be the hunt of the year for parents....
The picture is funny b/c Ken looks pleased as punch to be cradling his truly enormous PS3. He's showing the kind of affection a father would show his son, albeit a son with a head that makes his upper body look like a watermelon on a toothpick...
i dont think thats too expensive, most playstations have been launched at around the £300 mark in europe, wether the games or the functionality are any good remains to be seen
Whatever, I love that pic. I can't wait to get the minifridge/ps3 combo, and if you don't want that you, my friend, are retarded.
p.s. I don't really want a ps3, wii60 all the way.
Is the guy holding that PS3 exceedingly tiny or is the PS3 just fking enormous?
lol the picture is funny.
The same way that ps2 fanboys used to rip it out of the upcoming xbox cos it was so big.
Now the ps3 is bigger...
The PS3 is the actual size from the picture.. its just that japanese people are tiny.
It's Photoshopped, it's no where near that big. So stop with the joke.

That's how big the 360 would've been if they'd integrated the power brick into it....
Further clarification of comments made by Sony:
"We emphatically deny the recent rumors about the PS3 release date being pushed back. However, due to overwhelming demand of the PS3 unit, we will have to move the release date to first quarter, 2007. This is not a delay, this is a logical response to overwhelming demand."
So they're not delaying it any further, they're just making the release timeframe more vague.
Doesn't really bother me if they delay further, they lost any chance of my buying one when they slapped all us Europeans in the face. Not that I could ever have afforded one.
500 Euros... I won't buy any PS3 for that price. The Wii Seems like the most interesting choice here and I think that the Wii will have allot of interesting games, not the one with the coolest and newest graphics but the game feeling and experience will rock. That's what I think.
The PS3 isn't launching until 2007?!?!? I thought it was launching in november 2006....
November in the U.S market.
March '07 in U.K. They always get a later release date.
Here's a great comic showing the effects of PS3 Supply & Demand.
http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=212
"Let me teach you a little something about supply and demand. I don't have the supplies and they demand it! It's THAT simple."
This might be true seeing as they were fully commited to a 2006 luanh date aswell I don't know what to believe when it comes from sony
The reason no one is certain about what to beleive, Guy, is because Engadget and other sites are busy spreading FUD. In the meantime, watch Engadget make 50 more posts about Apple products that say, "GO BUY THIS NOW!" Engadget is nothing but yellow journalism.
This is Sony we are talking about, expect nothing but lies and hate for the consumer.
Farris:
"Being only the second(?) post, i know that it hasnt come up yet, but eventually, someone will comment saying "if its gonna be that big, i wont buy it."
So - are you concerned that people will waste space on Engadget compaining, or do you have some personal stake in Sony's success? I really hope it is the former, otherwise: pretty lame.
€500 you say? i wish, its on play.com for 800 with three games.. so unless the games are 100 each we'll be paying well over 500 for this, hope we dont get screwed like we are for the wii, how come we are spending $80 (€260 using conversion is €325+) more than the states?
az, I'm sorry to make you think that way, but it just bothers me to see it portrayed that way, as funny as it may be.
Veritas II, "Yellow Journalism" would mean that this is a "News" site... which it isn't. It's a blog.
Sony Fanboys like Farris really crack me up. They're not quite as funny as that pic, but somewhat humorous in their own right, the way they get so mad if you say anything bad about Sony, a company which continually lies to them and will soon be ripping them off. I like playing FFX and GT4 on my PS2, and I enjoy having RSS feeds and portable video on my PSP, but Sony has lost my respect with their recent tactics. Now, can we please get back to our discussion of giant enemy crabs? I hear you can attack the weakpoint for massive damage...
"your retarded"
And your grammar ain't too shabby, young one. Your and you're (you are) are quite different! Get into that fridge/PS3, boy!
/stuffs lifeless body in
"ou've still got only five months to come up with those 500 euros ($627)."
the official price in europe will be around 600 € (mostly 599) ...
we're so fucked. i wouldn't buy anyway one.. :)
Damn
I'm not in Europe anyways but I'm curious, is that before or after VAT (and what frigging value is that tax adding?) for the 600€? I'm assuming it's for the premium PS3 for that price.
Anyways, I find the giant PS3 picture funny but my only complaint is they need to not do such a craptacular job of the photochopping.
The ps3 is a flop and it's not even out yet.
