BenQ FP241W unveils its 24-incher, includes HDMI
BenQ's just launched a solid-looking 24-incher that comes with HDMI in and a 6ms response time, taking the cake from its 22- and 19-inch recent releases. The new FP241W (previously released in Asia this past summer) also includes HDCP support, displays at 1920 x 1200 WUXGA, packs a 1000:1 contrast ratio, takes D-Sub, DVI-D, S-Video, composite, and yes, component. The sultry screen will slide to the streets for $1100 later this month.

Nice... but will it accept 1080p on it component and/or HDMI inputs, with 1 on 1 pixel mapping (black bars at top & bottom)? The Dell apparantly doesn't, so if this one does, it makes perfect sense for combined PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and Hidef HT use.
Kevo @ Nov 3rd 2006 8:28AM
It does 1080p but it can't do 1 to 1 pixel or aspect scaling and will stretch everything to its 16:10 aspect and native res.
EddN @ Nov 3rd 2006 2:12PM
Although it's true that it stretches DVI/HDMI images to fill the screen, it does keep the aspec ratio (16:9 with slight black bars) for the non digital inputs. This is still a bit disapointing for a monitor that likes to throw around headings like "First Full HD".
Yes it has an HDMI but another DVI-D would have been just as useful since the monitor does not support audio, this would have cut the price of it too as HDMI costs a lot to put on devices.

What did you all use to resize that image, MSpaint?
zappenduster @ Nov 3rd 2006 8:54AM
the old one 23" fp231w had a option for its normal pcinput to use aspect 1:1 or stretch if they removed that for 1080p its a bummer

Hasn't this monitor been out for at least a month now? It's been for sale at Newegg for $799 (after instant $100 rebate, which may have ended by now) since the beginning of October. Check the thread in the display forum at [h]ardforums.
enjoy_polo @ Nov 3rd 2006 10:04AM
that's the one i'm getting for my PS3 because of its HDMI and 1080p compatibility.

DO NOT GET THIS MONITOR. well, at least if you intend on watching a lot of movies or playing console games. there is NO way that this monitor can do 1:1 pixel mapping, which is a problem because it is 16:10 aspect ratio as opposed to normal movie widescree 16:9. this means anything that is not coming from your computer (whether it be hdmi or dvi) will be stretched to fill the entire screen. the only way to have it 1:1 is to have it played through your computer that would put in the black bars itself. and yeah, it has been out for a while now.

That's the worst product picture I have ever seen.. Did they take it with a camera phone?
Trent @ Nov 3rd 2006 11:43AM
Yeah, mine from NewEgg is to arrive today on my doorstep for the US $799 price.
Is this just a repost of the same monitor or is there something different?
I'm cornfused.
Jason @ Nov 3rd 2006 11:54AM
Three points.
First, this monitor has been available at NewEgg.com for about a month for $799.
Second, do not get this monitor if you are planning on using it for ANYTHING besdies PC use. It does not have 1:1 pixel mapping, and everything will be stretched to fit its 16:10 aspect ratio. In other words, don't use it for consoles.
Third, the FP241WZ is an improved version of this monitor that should be released by the end of the year.

BenQ makes shit monitors.
Jason @ Nov 3rd 2006 1:25PM
"BenQ makes shit monitors."
That's funny. They've made monitors that have outperformed brands like Sony and Samsung in lab tests.
Jman @ Nov 3rd 2006 8:39PM
I use mine for my computer, and it works great! The lack of 1:1 is annoying, but its quality as a computer monitor is amazing.
Ian @ Nov 3rd 2006 8:44PM
I'm looking at getting a 24" monitor to use for both my computer, and Wii when it comes out. What would a good bet be? I was looking at Dell, as it's decent price at Costco (I'm in Canada)
EddN @ Nov 4th 2006 1:47PM
The Dell 2407FPW is cheaper than the BenQ but the image quality suffers from banding issues compared to the BenQ. If you want USB ports, a memory card reader and the option of add on speakers then go for the Dell.
Andy @ Nov 4th 2006 5:25AM
Tuig, are you sure the Dell 240 doesn't do 1:1? check here
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/2407WFP/en/setup.htm#Using%20the%20OSD
It apparently does for VGA/DVI inputs, but it doesn't say anything about the wide modes for analog video inputs, which I don't think would carry pixel information.
Andy @ Nov 4th 2006 5:25AM
I meant the Dell 2407
barry @ Nov 6th 2006 3:14PM
banding with the 2407 is an old issue. they fixed it months ago with revision A03. the Dell 24'' is still the better monitor.
Tash Kavarish @ Nov 7th 2006 10:28PM
I dont have this monitor but I do have the previous 23" from benq, the options (both dvi+vga) are 1:1, stretch and aspect, I'd wonder why they'd remove an option on a 24" thatd most likely have a same/similar firmware on it, Although it might be a hdcp/hdmi restriction i dont know about
Hands_Down @ Apr 17th 2007 7:55AM
I play pc games like css, will this be better than my FP781?
Also, is it better for dvdrip movies?
