Vadim Computers unveils $8,800 quad-core gaming rig in the UK
Just moments ago, we're sure a hoard of you rushed off to purchase the newest OMEN PC from VoodooPC in order to have the most intense gaming rig in your neck of the woods, but we've got news for you: it's already been outdone. Vadim Computers is offering a custom-built machine that packs the latest and greatest computing hardware the world has to (currently) offer, outdoing even VoodooPC's latest offering. Inside the liquid-cooled case, you'll find Intel's quad-core 2.66GHz Core 2 Extreme QX6700 processor nestled in an Asus P5N32-SLI Premium motherboard, surrounded by such niceties as 2GB of DDR2 RAM, dual nVidia 8800GTX 768Mb PCI-e graphics cards, twin 150GB Raptor 10000 drives (and a 750GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 just for storage), dual-layer DVD burner, CD-burning combo drive, and a Creative 7.1 X-Fi ExtremeMusic sound card -- and that's just the bottom-of-the-line configuration. The "3-to-20 percent variable overclocking," as well as the system itself, is backed by a two-year warranty, but similar to the Mac Mini, you'll be providing your own mouse, keyboard, and monitor. The tally on this incredulous beast comes to £4,622.23 ($8,818) -- which isn't quite what Dell demanded for its all-inclusive Renegade 600 -- but that's before the government even takes its share. Pony up, fellas.[Via The Inquirer]

this would make a great computer to surf the intarweb with

I read somewhere that 4 cores doesn't help with gaming since most games can only handle a max of 2 cores.
cheekky @ Nov 3rd 2006 5:28PM
games can only handle 2 cores? well thats why this is the ultimate gaming rig... it can run 2 games simultaneously!
Gil @ Nov 3rd 2006 3:17PM
At any rate that WAAAY to expensive. You can build that machine for half the price.
michael @ Nov 3rd 2006 3:28PM
I probably don't need to warn anybody here that those video cards don't exist yet. but hey, it's not *my* money.
MC @ Nov 3rd 2006 3:32PM
All that hardware and only 2GB of RAM....
ROFLROFFLES @ Nov 3rd 2006 3:33PM
It's not fair to make direct conversion to dollars.
Things are always more expensive in the UK.

As my friend says, "I have a computer that can play games 10x's faster than they let me"
Zorque @ Nov 3rd 2006 3:41PM
2 gigs of RAM and 300 gigs of storage? That's a little paltry, to say the least.

yeah, welll..
"twin 150GB Raptor 10000 drives (and a 750GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 just for storage), "
The price is not really so rediculous, considering the natural pricing premium that comes from state of the art parts. Two WD Rap150's, that processor, Two 8800GTX's, another HD, High perf RAM, premium mobo, sound card, optical drives, PS, cabling, case, etc for a self build would still come up around $5000, if not more. IF this config was offered by Voodoo or Falcon, it would easily be over $10k

Thats just the basic setup, go to the site and start upgrading it. The setup i chose was 7700 and that wasn't the top package. (and no i didnt order one, wish i could though)

i just can't believe that the only machine you could compare it to as far as peripherals was the mac mini...what a joke. I know its one of the few machines that doesn't come with anything, but still, how can you put a $8k dream machine in the same comparison as a $900 P.O.S. that probably couldn't play Duke Nukem 3D.
Giltronic @ Nov 3rd 2006 5:33PM
but can it run vista?
Jeff @ Nov 3rd 2006 6:38PM
Yawn...wake me up when it's got 4+gb of RAM.
And for $8000 it better include a monitor.
Jesse S @ Nov 3rd 2006 7:54PM
I'd like to see it use all four cores.
Pinhead @ Nov 4th 2006 4:35PM
Reason it's only got 2GB of ram is that XP has a problem dealing with more then that. Try sticking 4GB into your xp machine and getting XP to recognize that you have 4 sticks. Requires a little tweaking. But anyways, the orange liquid cooling is totally awesome :P
iownyou14 @ Nov 4th 2006 5:31PM
On the Vadim Computers website, it says that it includes an Agiea Physx card and a X-Fi card. But the mobo can only support 1 PCI card if there are two gfx cards installed. Very odd!
Eric M @ Nov 6th 2006 12:12AM
OK WTF? And DVD burner AND CD burner! A DVD burner is $30 bucks on newegg and a CD burner is $20 bucks. They can't put 2x DVD burners in there?... wow
ThunderMax @ Nov 20th 2006 1:32PM
Nice hardware but the price is insane, I bought an Alienware with a BETTER setup except the fact I have a dual core and not a quad core and it was still 2 grand less, and mine came with a 24" monior, 280 watt speakers, and mouse and keyboard.
jz @ Mar 13th 2008 7:09AM
Some say that games can handle at most 2 cores so it's not worth it to have a quad core cpu. Even if that were true, windows is still running in the back ground. It would be nice to have windows utilizing the other 2 cores. I can't tell you how many times I've shut down programs, like a video compressor or a TV tuner that was recording a show just to play a game. It would be nice to not have to worry as much. I think quad core is pretty cool.
