Ok, even though we didn't think Sony would ever
pull together enough components to
actually launch this thing (which probably explains the
two week queue), the PlayStation 3 is finally upon us. You've witnessed the PS3
getting unboxed, getting some
playtime, and getting
ripped apart, but now you can finally hop off that fence you've been occupying and
decide which console suits you best. Although you may lust after Sony's sleek and sexy new toy, chances are that you won't snag it on day one -- unless you don't mind
getting shot at while you wait in line, of course. Nevertheless, the initial wave of first reviews are in, and those fortunate enough to have already given the highly coveted machine a few hours of their time have spoken. Generally, reviewers felt that ported titles didn't do much to take advantage of the PS3's
extra horsepower, and a
Business Week reviewer "walked away more impressed with what it could do than with what it currently does." Moreover, nearly everyone mentioned the obviously high pricetag, but somehow felt that the
PS3 packed a big enough punch to justify it, and CNET even went so far as to state that you'd "feel you got your money's worth, from both a gaming and multimedia perspective." So whether these reviews send you shooting out of the office in hopes of landing a good
spot in line, or solidify your feelings that the
Xbox 360 or
Nintendo Wii would better suit you, be sure to read on before swiping any card anywhere.

Did you factor in that massive power brick that sits next to the 360? Add that in and they're at best equal in size.
I personally think, when you compare what you get on the PS3, it is no more expensive than the XBOX360. Add on to the xbox, HD Drive (which has rubbish picture quality), WIFI. The ps3 is about the same price, plus you are getting a good quality blue ray player.

I own both an Xbox 360 and a PS3, I enjoy both systems alot, certain games I prefer on one system, other games I prefer on the other system. Both are great consoles. Just go with what you prefer.
Neither console is rubbish.
The PS3 is an amazing machine and has so much unharnessed power that it is like a sleeping giant.

The playstation 3 is well worth the buy, i bought mine 3 months ago. Sorry to say i cant put Fifa 08 down. I know, it doesnt really test the Ps3 but i cant help but play it!

i don' see why people like this so much. It is basically a computer that plays games, and those games, in my opinion, aren't that great.
Gameplay is more important than graphics.
And on top of that, with the blue-ray, someone could stuff 3 full-length RPGs actually worth playing on one disc. I would buy it for that.

What i find more upsetting is when games like THP8 and others keep getting reviews saying "its a great game but not on this system" even when side by side reviews show 360 counterparts surpassing the ps3 versions and even with games that really need multiplayer to thrive getting their multiplayer completely pulled we have to deal with crappy biast reviewing just because "it's sony" as if sony hasnt lied since day 1 even from back with the ps2 "rendering toystory in realtime" and now with the ps3 lies and hype that has continuously turned into news of lies and half truths we still have these big groups reviewing them saying "it'll be good eventually" LOL
For the life of me, I can't figure out why people get so worked up about other people's opinions. If you don't like what the reviewers say, fine. You're entitled to that. But do you really think that people get on here and care to read the unbelievable amount of vitriol spewed out every time there's a PS3/360 post?
Why are you so concerned with what reviewers say? You've obviously already got your 360, and would seem to be unaffected by any PS3 news. Instead, 100's of people are threatened enough with every Engadget PS3 post that they complain about Sony. Go play your games and let us read reviews without you slamming a device you've never played yourself and have only 3rd party information on. It's seriously getting old.
These reviews are premature...they haven't taken into account that the PS3 won't output in 1080i so those folks with a CRT or most Rear Projection sets won't be getting more than 480p using the PS3.
Also reports are that PS3 won't upconvert normal DVD movies to 720p, 1080i or 1080p. The 360 does this just fine and it looks amazing.

The PS3 fanboys should start to think. Guess why the PS3 has framerate issues with COD3? Anybody that nows a little about hardware can figure out why the cell and the Nividia graphics are, unfortunately, slower than the 360 hardware. The Cell is slower FOR GAMING. And the Nividia chip is based on the 6800 series.

The problems you see on the release titles you are comparing I see as porting issues. The same has been in the past. Even the 360 has trouble rendering things in Burnout:Revenge which was ported over from previous gen consoles (yes, I've played it and it pisses me off that cars just "vanish" for no reason [I assume because of frame rate issues??]). If you don't like the PS3, don't buy it, but quit whining because you don't have one.
Burnout Revenge on the 360 doesn't have frame rate issues. The 360 is consistently above the ps3 in terms of frame rates, whether that will always be the case is another matter
I'm sick of people using COMMENTS to complain about other people's comments. If you don't like to see what other people have to say about a story, just read the reviews and don't scroll down.

Seriously some of you folks need to really get over yourselves...face it from what we know right now it looks like Sony has put out a well-engineered and highly competitive console. By this time after the 360 launch we were already hearing of the console crashing from overheating/red ring of death. All the reports so far are saying from an engineering standpoint the thing is a marvel. From its quiet operation to it's heat managment with an internal power brick.
Time will tell who wins out but for the time being STFU and give credit where its due. You like your 360...fine, go back into your basement turn it on and play. Quit raiding every PS3 post to state what has already been said 25 times over by every other Sony hater. Those of us who are objective are getting annoyed by it.
No matter what console you prefer 360, Wii, PS3 IMO the next five years will be the golden age
of console gaming for consumers. What could be better than 3 juggernauts going at it for our dollar. All this competition is going to breed great games, decent prices, and fun for anyone willing to give gaming a shot.

I'm not saying that PS3 is a lot worse than the XBOX 360. And maybe you want Blue Ray movies. Even if I think it would be a stupid choice to make.
But the "others" are telling people:
We'll, the games look worse, play worse than the 360s games ... but they will be better! Better looking ... in the future. That's for sure.
And this is just bad. Because nobody can predict that. And I for one, and I don't even have a console, the PS3 can never be better than the 360, because of design flaws in the architecture.
You should stop being a fanboy and stop defining Xbox360. Microsoft does the same like Sony; the first Xbox360s also had flaws, ex overheating/red-ring.
I work for EA and helped make Madden for PS3. The only problem we had was that we didn't have enough time. Sony's system is way more powerful, but we just didn't have time to fully exploit it this time around. I think what you'll see for the first few games that come out on both systems is that the Sony games will be sharper, but have some frame rate issues and poorly implemented sixaxis features. This shouldn't be a problem by next year once everyone gets the hang of it. Personally I hope all the systems are successful, because that means I won't get laid off.

To be fair, shouldn't we just wait a while to see what this thing's capable of in a year? Ports aren't going to look as good, just like on the 360. We had to wait a year to really see what it was capable of with something like Gears of War instead of Namco Arcade Collection XXIII. Resistance, which I don't think is as good as Gears of War, still scored pretty highly on reviews so far.
One year into the PS3's full development, compare the 2. Otherwise, it's just apples and oranges.

I would just like to say that anybody out there who can't spell or use grammer properly shouldn't be taken seriously and that they probably do not understand that every console has problems initialy. We as consumers are used to pay for and test products so that the manufaturer can make a profit before the problems arise. This is normal and understandable as long as the manufacturers are making the effort to fix the problem in the end.
We all need to wait at least one year to get a good idea of what is going to happen with the PS3! And for all of you complaining about Sony lying, STOP COMPLAINING! MS Corporation has lied to consumers many, many times over the years and everything has ended ok, so give them time.

Waited inline for 32 hrs in the darn cold to buy a PS3 and ended up with a rain check...when i finally got a call that it was in the store, I rushed there, made the purchase, drove home and plugged it in...BIG dissapointment. The HD BluRay player is great through HDMI, although the current games and graphics are below par and are out shined by the XBOX360. Anyone want to buy my PS3?..I'm sticking with the 360 for now...

I bought a new car once, had to take the thing back to the dealer 12 times before they got all the factory boo-boo's, rattles, and clinks out of it....and it cost a LOT more than a PS3!

If you got your PS3 Laser lens down, you could try this to fix your system by sending back to the supplier and wait a long time to make it back. How could it be that, games are waiting. Or you chould try to change the replacement SONY PlayStation3 PS3 KES-400AAA Laser Lens (blue ray) by yourself. Installation takes about 15 minutes. You don't need to have special tools to fit the part, you can do the job with just two screwdrvers and a stanley knife.
The replacement can correct the below problems:
Your games are taking much longer than before to load
Your PS3 is having trouble reading certain games
Watching DVD’s is a pain owing to flickering screens and jumping scenes
System shows a message "Disc Read Errors" or disc appears damaged or dirty on the screen.

I think the PS3 is overated. I got myself a Wii the other day (got it through http://www.gimme4free.co.uk), and although the graphics aren't as good on the Wii, Nintendo have really hit on a winner on the playability factor. I played a friends PS3 after playing on the Wii, and it just wasn't fun! Sure, the graphics on the PS3 are amazing, but I still play mario kart on the Snes on occassion, and the gameplay endures!
