Thanko Video Glasses for iPod make you the coolest kid in town
We're still not really sure who exactly is buying these crazy-looking video visor displays, but companies still seem to be coming out with 'em. Thanko's the latest to try its hand at one of these crazy getups; its new offering is supposed to simulate a 37-inch screen when viewed at two meters (6.5 feet). The price of ¥29,800 ($256) isn't bad either, though it doesn't quite match the $200 cost of the Kowon MSP-209 visor that we spotted back in May. Still, the main reason why we're holding off on getting these (aside from the fact that they probably won't come Stateside anytime soon), is that we're waiting for a set that can simulate HD. Of course, we could just watch "Battlestar Galactica" on our HD sets at home, but then we wouldn't look nearly as ridiculously cool as this dude pictured above.

You can use these glasses with various sources, such as a portable media player or your cell phone. This technology promises to eliminate the dizziness phenomenon usually associated with this kind of display. And with these glasses weighing only about 40 grams, you’ll feel that you’re viewing a 40-inch screen from a distance of 7 feet.
Thanks

i think they would be cool at home lay down on my couch and enjoy a show comfy without having to look in a certain direction at the tv
Actually Sharper Image is already selling something similar this holiday season...
BSG FTW
They selling this babies on ebay already.... check it out...!! 50" HD simulation!!
I wonder if you could plug a Wii into this for a sort of virtual reality...
Can someone say.... "I have no date"... it's just way too much Research and Development here, and apparently this is what they thought up at the last minute..
I think hooking up your video Ipod to a HD screen would be a much better idea.

HAHA...Exactly what I was thinking. Wearing these glasses will guarantee you'll never get laid. At least you'll still have your hand and some IPORN.
Wow... That guy (or girl, can't really tell) looks soooo cool. I know I'd want to be seen in public wearing those! This way, I can finally put away my Pizza Hut 'Back to the Future 2' promo glasses. Watch out ladies!!!
How could you possibly appreciate HD on something that small any? It's like saying you want you PSP to support blu-ray...
There just comes a point where you wouldn't be able to see anything anyway.
I can see it now- "Squint harder! I'm pretty sure you can see the sweat stains on her shirt!!"
I'm holding out for HD optical implants.
Make them look like the automotive air filter that the Geordy on Star Trek wore and I would buy one! "Thanko" you very much!
Once the rez and refresh rates get good enough, I'll get a pair, and I'll use them without worrying about how geeky they are. Just think: your rowmate won't be leaning into your space on that long plane trip to ogle your copy of Lord of the Rings, Star Wars: Collector's Edition or that Lifetime movie you encoded so it would play on your PSP (far more embarrassing, really, than a doofusy pair of goggles). You can play that R-rated video game without worrying what your 8-year-old kid will see & hear. Etc etc. Bonus, you can tune "The Public" out entirely.
Love comments like these ... and then I read the wingnuts who talk about watching widescreen video on an iPod as if it were anything other than an iconic advertising of stupidity.
I understand women like stupid men because they're easier to control, So I guess that would make the vIdiots dateable.
Or the dorkiest kid in town ...
Funny how he's watching a video from the iPod's 3.5mm audio jack port.
If i see someone wearing that on the train they're getting smacked!!
what i don't understand is why these glasses are still expensive. back in 90s i understand those 2 tiny LCD screen might be expensive, but now 15" LCD TVs are cheaper than most glasses. what cause price high?
Bad, no.. good neither... Think of teh harm it will caus to your eye sight, think of the freedom to watch anything anytime, on long train trips.. forgte socialyzing... Close out the rest of teh world while your at it.
But if i was given one of those FREE.... I'd be very happy, and prolly fall asleep using it... cuz videos tend to make me sleep... possible anti-insomniac??
lol
snowy, thats an A/V output, not just audio
I can see it now, watching a TV show. How cool is that? Then you run into a pole cause you can't see where you are going. Chicks dig unconsicous guys. Not.
I saw a local news channel do a review on this item... They steered it towards air flight travel. Makes sense to me. I want a pair. For $250 sounds like a good price!
Also what showed in the review was portable solar clam shell looking thing that can suction cup on the air flight window to charge your phone. Huh! What ppl come up with these days.
Now the question is... Will it connect with the Nokia N series 95 and 93i... etc... Other phones.
I question the 3.5 mm jack. If iPod has it that means cell phones do to??? *shrugs*
