OQO Model 02 passes through FCC
It's been over a year since OQO updated their original Model 01 with the 01+, and since then the UMPC / ultraportable computer landscape has changed quite a bit, to say the least. Now, cloaked by an increasingly usual (and irritating-for-Engadget) confidentiality agreement, today saw the passage of... wait for it... the OQO Model 02 computer. All we can tell you is that it passed on the 5GHz band (which would imply 802.11a), as well as on two frequencies in 2.4GHz, implying 802.11b/g and Bluetooth -- unfortunately, nothing there listed for cellular frequencies (which mean that might be left to a Model 02+ or some such thing). Oh, and the unit will be 3.5 x 5x5-inches (although thickness is still unknown -- compare to the current OQO at 3.4 x 4.9 x 0.9-inches). More as we get it!

I've been itching for a UMPC, and if this has all the features and battery life as I expect, I will buy it.
Sweet, I want one.
Speaking of OQO's, where is the next reader meetup being held?
Wait is it vista or xp w/ vista ready or just xp?
And it doubles as a handwarmer! ;)
Did anyone find the FCC document?
Is it a Core 2 Duo and did they make a deal with Steve to run OS X on it? How it would run Vista without some horsepower is beyond me.
No phone? Man! This is killing me! How much room does the phone radio take up?
Obviously, the big question is how this will compare to the Sony UX280P. Looks like it will be slightly smaller (but not as much as the 01), and missing the Sony's WWAN. Keep on the case, Engadget--I want deets on this one! I'm considering buying something of this form factor...although I'm sure the OQO 02's specs are set, here's what I'd like to see:
- Intel Core Solo ULV (competitive with the Sony)
- real graphics (competitive with the Sony, necessary for Vista)
- better keyboard (backlighting a must)
- touchscreen display competitive w/ Sony--I haven't gotten to see a UX in person, but I think I want the higher resolution (1024x600)
- 1 Gb RAM
- better battery life
- cameras are nice but not necessary
- don't care about fingerprint scanner
- and importantly: undercut Sony's price
Is it me or does that look like an ibook battery?

Bad link, anyone have the number or a better link?
GSM modules are about the size of a quarter, as are CDMA
none of the links work :P
Hello,
we can find info about OQO 01, 01+ and 02 model in this links:

SHD-A4YWFS is the FCC ID for every model.
Have a nice day,

I'm furious at OQO. I bought my Model 15 weeks ago, and it has been having lock-up problems since the day I received it. It's still under the 1-year warranty, so I thought I was covered, right? Well, it turns out that their tech supports is very unreliable. In retrospect, I *should* have returned it within the 30-day money back guarrantee and suffered the 15% restocking fee, but it's far too late for that now.
I've re-imaged it twice myself, and for the past 15 weeks, have been following OQO tech support's instructions in trying to figure out the issue. I've even sent it in for repair, and all they did was add scratches to it, and send it back to me still broken! I've been paying $60/month on top of that to Sprint, for a device that I cannot use for more than 15 minutes before it locks up!
Because of all of this, I recently asked for a return-for-credit, or at least allow me to upgrade to the newer model (I offered to pay the difference), but after 20 days, I got denied. They're saying that I'm effectively stuck with this broken unit, but that they're willing to re-image it themselves (never mind that they've already scratched it up)!
I'm fed up with this. 15 weeks of this is enough. I urge you to heed this warning and STAY AWAY from OQO! Even if you get a unit that works properly right out of the box, if anything goes wrong with it, you're likely to get tremendous headaches dealing with their tech support/customer support.
Furiously,
-Dan.
