PC-Koubou's 17-inch Lesance laptop: a budget anchor for Japan
Fan of 17-inch laptops are ya? Good, PC-Koubou has this 1920x1200 (WUXGA) Lesance CL706GW-C2D-GT up for grabs in Japan with a base-config touting Intel's 2GHz T7200 Core 2 Duo processor, some beefy 512MB GeForce Go 7950GTX graphics, 2GB DDR2 memory and 100GB 5400rpm SATA disk, ExpressCard/54 slot, 1.3 megapixel cam in the upper bezel, multi-format memory card reader and DVI, S-Video, and SPDIF outs. Not bad for ¥269,980 (about $2351) right? Oh, did we mention that this 2-inch, 8.8-pound sled only runs about 1-hour 40-minutes on battery? Ok, so highly portable it isn't, but not a bad deal for an all-singing, all dancing, budget desktop replacement if you're living in ultra-expensive Japan.

Japan is not 'ultra expensive' despite its reputation (with the possible exception of rent), and this is a pricey laptop in any market. Nice specs, but still pricey.

Er, Osaka and Tokyo are consistently ranked the #1 and #2 most expensive cities on the planet.

As a resident of Japan, I concur with Scooter. Real estate and luxury items skew Japanese cities up on those "most expensive" lists.
Anyway, this laptop will go over like a lead zeppelin in Japan. Most people use 8-12" laptops, and the only seventeens I have ever seen in use were Macs.

This is just a rebranded Clevo M57U/M570U, posted about the third time on here in yet another form. I'm using one right now -- it's a great machine if you can score a deal on one.

Isn't it somewhere closer to the 6th?
And if you count the D900K/T, and that 19 inch SLI one, the number of times Engadget has posted the exact same three laptops jumps to maybe 15 *grins*

That's definitely a rebranded Clevo M570U. You can get the same package cheaper at RJtech.com right now.
I just used their customize tool for the Clevo M570U laptop, and I came up with a price of $2,079 for the same configuration.
I'm not affiliated with RJtech.com, just a very satisfied customer having bought a fully loaded Clevo M570U from them about a month ago. Great laptop, for sure.

You too? I got mine from RJTech in August... could not beat the price, even with everybody and their grandmother selling Clevos and Sagers. Sadly, that was before Core 2 came out *laughs*
