Pre-built wireless Wii sensor bar for sale
Looking to cut that pesky cord off your Wii's sensor bar but unwilling to mod it, build one from scratch, or make do with candles or TV remotes? Well, it looks like the inevitable has finally happened, with the first pre-built wireless sensor bars now available for sale for the low, low price of $24.99 (plus $5.99 shipping and handling). Supposedly, it'll give you the same range as the standard Wii sensor bar and run for a full 48 hours on a single 9V battery, with an on/off switch to conserve battery life. Of course, WirelessSensorBar.com isn't exactly the most well-known video game accessory maker, so we can't vouch for their legitimacy but, for the time being at least, it looks like they're the only game in town.

You could do like i saw this one guy do with a mouse. Cut off the cord w/ some scissors so it won't work but it sure is wireless.
computer.dude.28 @ Nov 7th 2007 10:28PM
That's lame and stupid.
A54-14 @ Dec 12th 2006 5:11PM
Who's going to sue them first?
Nintendo or that company that's suing Nintendo for patent infringement?
mjparker @ Dec 12th 2006 5:21PM
TV companies ought to start approaching Nintendo for partnerships...Wii-Ready TV anyone???
SamuelDr @ Dec 12th 2006 5:22PM
sue who for what?
a plastic bar with 4 leds in it?
Lester Nelson @ Dec 12th 2006 5:33PM
I think I'd rather have the cord than this ugly thing.
TVGenius @ Dec 12th 2006 5:52PM
Wonder how this works, using only one IR LED instead of the 5 or so the real bar uses (look at the videos that show the bar, you can see there's more than one) ??
Trufilian @ Dec 12th 2006 6:01PM
Just one LED won't work, the sensor bar needs at least 2 to tell distance.
tiuk @ Dec 12th 2006 6:21PM
I see four IR LEDs.
ORLY @ Dec 12th 2006 5:59PM
the concept is obviously cool. Just a shame they dont seem to have a commercial vacuuming machine, it looks like big foots dick.
Mr Funk @ Dec 12th 2006 6:06PM
Bollocks to wireless ugly things. When can I simply get a nice black wired one like the OEM, but twice as wide to improve accuracy and make Wii play quit telling me to sit 2 feet from the telly?
Rik @ Dec 12th 2006 7:57PM
Has anybody made the order and received the goods. I went to order, but got scared off when I saw the email address my credit card details were going to. wirelessensorbar@gmail.com
jeff Foster @ Dec 12th 2006 6:08PM
48 hours? 9v?
lame.
why not just make one that plugs into the wall (instead of the Wii)? ...i'm sure you have an outlet behind your TV, unless you're from the future.
that, and this thing is ugly.
Deluxe @ Dec 13th 2006 12:47AM
Well, because then it wouldn't be wireless, would it?
Ian @ Dec 13th 2006 6:08PM
Well the idea of having a wireless one is that it can be used in setups where it is not really practical to have wires, eg, a projection setup where the wii is currently difficuilt to use. You have to have the sensor bar at the front, but the projector is at the back. Wireless sensor bar = good.
gezepi @ Dec 12th 2006 6:08PM
Can't people just make battery packs for it? All you need is the proper voltage like it comes out of the Wii and the goofy connector. Then just wrap up the cord and ziptie it up. Insta-wireless and it's still Nintendo's design.
TVGenius @ Dec 12th 2006 6:23PM
Oh...partly my bad... I thought those were shiny metal buttons or something and the LEDs were on the ends. In that case, they almost seem too close together then...
ORLY @ Dec 12th 2006 7:06PM
like frozen Fromage Frais with a twist of lime.
JCA @ Dec 12th 2006 11:14PM
Thank you Jeff Foster for making me giggle like a schoolgirl. You're the only one saying it. Get a damn 9V AC-DC converter, wire it in and plug it into the outlet. Even for those with projectors, the odds are still really good that you have an outlet underneath or near the screen. Never worry about battery life.
Dave Pevsner @ Dec 12th 2006 8:34PM
i think i'd rather get the LEDs built into my TV so they still have power without a battery, but no wires sticking out. plus it'd be the overall cleanest look. so, who's gonna be the first to sell TVs with built in wii sensor bars?
Dillon Dixon @ Dec 12th 2006 11:18PM
lol, it says "nintendo wii compatible" underneath the title on the advertisement, like no freakin way!
HungD @ Dec 12th 2006 8:58PM
Seriously, someone release an AC adapter for the official Nintendo sensor bar so you can move the Wii more than 8 fee away from the TV.
Me @ Dec 12th 2006 8:51PM
Why order a wireless sensor bar for $30 when you can easily make your own for a few bucks using parts available from radio shack?
Christian @ Dec 12th 2006 9:14PM
I think this makes sense if you tend to travel with your wii a lot; less cable to deal with. Your original cabled one can be forever double-sided taped to your tv. I'm putting it on my wishlist. I ain't buying it, making someone else do it.
jeff @ Dec 13th 2006 2:12AM
I'd exchange "useful" for "wireless" any day of the week.
Joel @ Dec 13th 2006 6:39AM
It's funny they say "wii compatible when it only works with the wii...
Jeff Foster @ Dec 13th 2006 6:17PM
the idea of having a sensor bar that plugs into the wall instead of into the Wii would serve 99% of the projector crowd (including me.)
having to replace batteries every 48 hours of gameplay (assuming you remember to turn it off every time) is ridiculous, and i can easily string an extension cord through the ceiling and down the wall so that for all intents and purposes, it appears wireless without any need for batteries, with the Wii 30 feet away.
even Power-Over-Ethernet would work better than batteries, IMO.
