Engadget Chinese parties it up, Taiwan style
In the grand Engadget tradition of nerds gathering together to ogle tech and consume alcohol -- well, we can only assume alcohol was involved, due to TMX Elmo's apparent popularity -- Engadget Chinese pulled off quite the party the other night, with appearances by all three new-gen consoles and plenty of other toys. Peep a few pictures after the break, or just hit up the read link for the party in all its machine-translated glory -- just like we know those EC kids best.

Frat Brother Elmo: "Hold him down while I take compromising pictures of our furry inebriated friend!"

What's an Engadget party without the gadgets?

"You'll poke your eye out, kid!"

Man, this Genji game would be great if it didn't suck so much.

"Of course, human space broad enough space, not playing games queue control sequence, the player interaction are not high, Or did they let Engadget Party closer to perfection."
Wow! Sounds like a great time... I think.
Umm, why are there sparkplug things leaking out of the e?
They ain't sparkplugs, well, at least nothing like the ones I have to keep changing in my bike ^_^. They look like multimeter test probes or something... and the other ones look like inkjet refiller tools. Who knows. I don't think you're supposed to look /that/ closely...
Hoho, I am chinese, but not in taiwan prov.
Engadget is amazing, and so is cn.engadget.com!
Um, Taiwan's not a province, it's a country.
Um. How can a democratic country be part of a communist one? =\ China is just tricking itself into believing that Taiwan is theirs.
On another note, interesting how global Engadget has become. And I'm sure that the little girl has a bright future in front of her, already picking up a camera and going to Engadget parties...haha! =]
where's the booze?
To reiterate: Taiwan is not a province, it is a country.
actually, china is a part of taiwan. ha!
I'm amazed. After seeing that repeated twice on this page I'm still able to access Engadget despite being on the mainland.
"Wii game or the strongest, whether they join the crowd or the players, the game can feel the fun and old alike, Human Space children can quickly handcuffed. "
Enslave space children FTW!
Glad to see there was Italian Vegetable Soup at the party...
I thought they resembled Syringes, to begin with :S
Taiwan is a part of China however they act independantly. No use being in denial...
XinYu, you (and the rest people in China) can call it whatever you want in your dream! Me and the generations before me were born and raised in Taiwan. We are Taiwanese and we call Taiwan our home and our country. Please respect that. You have NO RIGHT to change OUR identity.
wow, okay..
I've been reading engadget for a few months now but finally I feel the need to chime in.
Taiwan is a part of China because of the Communist Government's generous monetary contributions, military support, and understanding of the Taiwanese people's rights as a democracy, right? right?
They're SO generous that they threaten the Taiwanese with missile launches during presidential elections, they let the Taiwanese fund their own defense, they block the Taiwanese from the WTO and the UN even though their political entities are clearly seperated and Taiwan is unrepresented in China, right?
And let's not forget the Taiwanese Olympic team aka "Chinese Taipei." The only way the Chinese would let Taiwanese athletes in is if they play under the Chinese flag. And nobody in the world is going to stop China's BS because they all want in on the Chinese market.
I love how everybody in the world who knows a thing about history and watches baseball knows that Yankees' pitcher Chien-Ming Wang is Taiwanese. But any Chinese newspaper will say that he's Chinese now that he's become so popular.
Taiwan may be a small country but it does its best in this big world. Don't stick it to them just because they are situated next to such a big bully. It's true that a good percentage of the population actually originates from Mainland China before the Communist take-over. But that doesn't mean that there weren't natives on the island before.
The Dutch and the Japanese both had their stay on the island of Taiwan well before mainland took serious claim over it. And China really only gave a crap after Taiwan's GDP rose well beyond any other Asian nation (besides Japan). Now China's a rising power and people are kissing up to them.
There's obviously more to the story and believe me, I'm well versed.. I just don't want to litter this string with any more off-topic chatter.
Thanks for your time.
Sorry to be off topic here but I see our fellow viewers are all one sided and distorting history/facts.
Here's the real facts.
Taiwan was/is just a province under Imperial (Monarcy) then Nationalist (Democratic) rule.
It was briefly taken over by the Japanese during WWII who was invading China at the time.
Communist China and Nationlist China (With alot of help from the US) kicked Japan out of China.
Communist China then attacked Nationlist China, who were forced to retreat to Taiwan.
Even after some time after WWII, Nationlist China (who are now in Taiwan) was considered the legitamite governing body of all of China by the US.
Of course, Communist China is powerful now and nobody want to piss them off by backing a small and weak Taiwan.
And frankly speaking, the Taiwanese government is a joke, we have government officials that throw shoes around and start fist fights while in government meetings ALL THE TIME.
And don't get me started about the current Taiwanese "President".
I wouldn't want the Taiwanese government to rule the rest of China, and I'm sure even supporters of Nationlist Taiwan (like myself) can't argue how messed up Taiwan is right now.
Sure there's corruption in all governments (even US), but at least mainland China still have law and order in government (be it a heavy handed approach).
It's all out chaos in Taiwan government (an example of TOO much Democracy is not necessarily a good thing).
So yah, Taiwan is a country or not, who cares, the government is just plain garbage, not worthy the designation of a real country.
It's up to the people to rise up and take their country back.
I wonder why China doesn't just buy Taiwan's government. Keep all the corrupt Taiwanese politicians happy, and the good ones broke and desperate to really want to make a change for Taiwan and its people. Fortunately, we have gadgets to keep us somewhat united.
"Hoho, I am chinese, but not in taiwan prov."
Just... don't say Taiwan's a province next time, okay man?
If Taiwan were a province, don't you think they'd be using Simplified Characters by now?
Other than that, Merry Xmas, hope you had fun at the party..
Hello, everybody. I am Wick. About more than half a month ago, I pick up Engadget from her Chinese branch.
And I make my first comment in this post.
--
Hoho, I am Chinese, but not in Taiwan prov.
Engagdet is amazing, and so is engadget.cn.
--
From then on, Few visits I make to this website, and I always like to be active in cn.engadget.com.
A google-search result occasionally brings me back now, and believe me that I am not used to look back on my past posts.
While I am take my sight on this comment above, I must admit that the comment itself is a bit controversial. Yes, this indeed makes the atmosphere be on wires.
I declare now that it's not my consciousness for taking it into this, and I am not willing to talk about this in such a unfamiliar situation.
However, I can't resist that someone here dusts eyes of others, maybe they wants to restore it, or maybe they don't even know the history.
As a Chinese, I can't get one eye open to watch the matter of fact, and get the other eye close to trick myself this is a vision. In Chinese idioms, this means regicial and discreditable.
As a result of this, I give this, my second comment to you, who betray and question the truth. Maybe you never see this, but actually, I don't care.
To Chef
Taiwan has never been a country. I don't know how you are told by Taiwan's schoolbook, but even if a Russian stands here, he often believe that.
To Eric
Er, as a political point of view, you have some power to offense me. But for what? For dissatisfaction to China mainland, or immensely proud to your democracy?
At first, democracy can not be the proof of the existence of Taiwan as a country, which should be legality confirmation by UN, and independent diplomatic privilege.
Second, you must be more conscious than me, of what the Taiwan's democracy is like. Taiwan follow the lead of Western country's polity, but for now, this really mess it up.
All people in mainland know that, how deformed your "gov official" is. There always be some scandals around nationalist party all the time. Democracy is a tool for government's rule, and please do no mention American polity(I don't want argue about that.).
And more, I am not a little girl. Engadget makes me feel good, but my future is related to my nation.
To bkkb
You're not Chinese at all, and of course not so-called "Taiwanese".
To IndigoValencia
Wow, Okey.
Relative to your first appearrance in several month, I am lucky for that I receive several votes about my comment. Really appreciate these :)
1. Monetary contribution, military support, understand the rights of people in Taiwan as a democracy? Yeah, these make up the explanation to a nation's responsibility in your mind. For this, I keep silent.
2. Chinese gov threaten people in Taiwan while electing your president.
If a province in a nation intend to get self-governed or try to elect its president, can you believe the nation would be nonchalant and let it go?
Indigo, do you know the American Civil War? At that time, some States of the US turn out into corruption and are going to divide the nation. And then fierce opposition between the North and South launched the whole war inevitably.
Blocking Taiwan from WTO and UN? That is the nature of things. Any country can't abide that its province try to be affiliated to UN independently.
In this situation, can you state that China is just threatening people in Taiwan? Does anyone not understand this behavior?
3. Don't mention the dignity of the people in Taiwan, if you don't identify yourself as Chinese. When it is discharged, you are about to be nothing, absolutely.
Thank for your mention of China Taibei, and this is really a joke in China mainland. Athletes in Taiwan, who don't know the rules of Olympic games at all, was aiming at games. Of course, they would be prevented from the games. However, when they knew the things all around, they admitted that they represent Chinese and be pleased to play games under the nation flag of China right AWAY. But in mainland, Being forced to forget our identification as a Chinese, equals to indignity. Get whatever the biggest prize is under another flag, this must be impossibility, even if you're threaten them to be dead. The amount of examples of Chinese ancients is innumerable. You, so-called Taiwanese, changed yourself easily for the price. That is your dignity. And after that, you complaint, "We have no other way, and shall be back to earn money in the China market."
Do you feel shame?
Your "president" stated outside that he has blood relationship with Japanese, and your first lady is compelled to pass the safety inspection when in USA, and American diplomat is unwilling to shake hand with your "president". These are your "Taiwanese dignity". Forget that, and you must know one thing: something someone did just brought disgrace to Chinese.
I have heard Taiwan's player Chie-Ming Wang, but I don't know our newspaper said that. I remembered that once some Korean medium clamoured that he is a descendant of Korean nation. One of the proof is, Wang in Chinese is the meaning of King, and King is the largest family in Korean. Wow, I think Korean medium is really funny.
But I do remember the American tennis player, Michael Chang. Our report is: Michael is great, and Chinese are proud of him. I think you can distinguish them, right?
4. Taiwan can be the best if without China.
I have much scorn for your idea, but I am able to overturn it calmly.
Taiwan's export takes up 47% of the whole GDP, and Taiwan's most import object is: China, American, Japanese and EN. China is Taiwan's largest export, the second largest import country and the biggest source of surplus favorable balance. During 1998-2004, Taiwan's trade balance occupies 22% of GDP. Can you imagine how much 22% is in your adorable GDP?
China has the largest resource of budget labour force, which becomes the important source of commercial profit. Businessmen in Taiwan also know that. Shenzhen city I live in now is a popular city for dense labour force, and I also heard that, businessmen from Taiwan are so cold-blooded, and alien to their workers. Do you remember the Fujitsu affair in 2006?
Taiwan needs Chinese support, and the rise of China also brings the bright future to Taiwan. Does anyone have misgivings?
4. China mainland feel contempt for Taiwan.
I shall treat this as a senseless joke.
And finally, you could support engadget by your appearance when necessary.
To T:
Oh my god! You are supposed to live in Taiwan. But I doubt you have enough history knowledge.
Once upon a time, Taiwan has been taken by several invaders, 1624-1662 for Dutch, and 1895-1945 for Japan. I must comprehend people payed their endeavors to fight against other nations and even the official of Qing GOV. This result in your consciousness of exclusion against China mainland. However, you have never been separated from China.
Taiwan country is just your dream, but don't get generations before you involved in.
To mnkykng:
Thank you for your comment. If without it, some Chinese would feel lonely and hopeless when visiting the site.
I shall notice one thing: It's not correct that nobody cares about whether Taiwan is a country or not.
To mike:
Your opinion can not make a stand here.
India has several official languages, Can you say that they are in chaos or corruption?
The contemporary existence of simplified and traditional Chinese indicates the difference of traditional culture between China mainland and Taiwan prov, but can not prove that Taiwan is not a part of China.
Can you get more relevant proof?
To jc:
My head hurts... Your words is so violent...
A problem which can be work out with money, is not a problem at all.

Thanks for your time, and thank Engadget.
