Spectec rolls out microSD-packin' SDIO GPS receiver
If that handy SD slot in your Treo (or similar smartphone) has gone lonely long enough, you've probably been waiting for "that killer device" to slam down in there and boast about. Thankfully, that time has seemingly come, as Spectec's latest SDIO GPS receiver packs a whole lot of functionality into a minuscule (and sleek) package. Unlike alternative GPS attachments for your handset, the SDG-810 provides a SiRF Star III 20-channel tracking adornment, is WAAS-enabled, and sports a microSD slot to carry up to 2GB of excess data (like maps, for instance) since your original flash memory slot just got occupied. While pricing information wasn't readily available, this nifty smartphone must-have should be available in your neck of the woods (read: everywhere) real soon.[Via GearDiary]

It looks like a nose hair trimmer... do you need GPS on that?

Small error in the post. It should be WAAS-enabled, not WASS. Wide Area Augmentation System.

How much and does it include whatever software is needed to be recognized on the multiple OSes they say they support?

It's time someone made a GPS ExpressCard /34 adapter for the Macbook Pro.

So why do their customers have to replace all their SD cards with microSD? When someone comes out with a similar device but just a quarter inch taller so it can support regular SD then I'll buy one.

Well you would only NEED one microSD card to carry whatever data you would need while using the GPS. I can't imagine leaving that thing in your device all the time, so it's not going to block you from using your day-to-day SD card. You can still use all of your existing SD cards while you're not using the GPS module.
