Thanko makes the best even better, updates hand-warming mouse
Thanko, not just content with keeping our feet warm this season, has released an update to its USB hand-warming mouse as well. The new device, though, seems to be nothing more than a redesign, as all the specs have remained the same. For those unfamiliar with this toasty gadget, the mouse can reach a maximum temperature of 45°C and has an 800dpi resolution. It claims to only support Windows NT/ME/2000/XP, but since it's driver-less, we're sure that it won't leave Mac users out in the cold. While we enjoy the bump in aesthetics it got, we think we'll take our chances with frost bite and hold out for the third version, when perhaps it will have a higher resolution and a few extra buttons. my hands are always too warm when I'm using a mouse

I have an answer as to why a heated mouse is necessary. As I have worked for various companies, each facility is kept at a rather chilly temperature. I understand their reasons: cooler temperatures equal more alert workers, more professional to add layers than to take off layers of clothing, menopausal women’s rights seem to outweigh others, etc. It is a bit ridiculous when, living in southern California, I cannot wear a dress to work in the summer without bringing in my winter sweaters to keep me warm.
Anyway, I digress…As most workers use a mouse for 8+ hours a day, the arm is extended in this cold office climate. Our extremities have a bit more difficulty maintaining a comfortable temperature when extended. I would absolutely LOVE to own a heated mouse so I wouldn’t need to remove my hand from my mouse to my hot cup of tea every few minutes. A useful, practical, and darn right ingenious piece of equipment. Now to find a way for my company to understand and supply those of us with warm hearts, but cold hands.

We're talking about the hand on your mouse, right? Not the OTHER hand...

are you kidding me?! my hands sweat when i'm using a mouse. besides, my room is pretty warm due to my room-heating P4 cpu; it reaches 60C without a sweat. take that thanko and your 45!
Meltz; @ Jan 1st 2007 3:17PM
Yeah, no joke! I already have sweaty hands syndrome when playing games and such!
Jessica @ Jan 1st 2007 3:10PM
Agreed. I don't see any need for a hand-warming mouse unless you're outside with your laptop in mid-winter. And even then...Put on gloves or go inside. LOL.

This would be great for me, my hands always get cold when I'm using the computer because I have poor circulation.
jimbobo @ Jan 1st 2007 6:13PM
my fingertips are always icey cold, but my palm toasty warm...
WHAT TO DO!?!?

just wait till someone writes a virus that disables the temperature feedback mechanism.

I don't have any use for a heated mouse. I'm still waiting for the heated car steering wheel.
cloud811 @ Jan 2nd 2007 1:55AM
sounds nice....i feel bad for my left hand though, all cold. But now that i think of it...this could become really dangerous if defective....especially since I'm one of toughs people who never turn there PC's off meaning, it leaves the mouse on all the time...

If the USB Gloves I got my wife for Christmas don't work, I might have to try one of these. Her PC/Office is in the basement and it's always colder down there than upstairs. Her hands are always freezing when she's mousing.
David @ Mar 1st 2007 11:17AM
Mike,
My wife has ice cold hands. With the office in the basement it gets really cold.
I found her this a few days ago and she loves it.

Plus I love it because I don't get freezing hands on my neck while I'm working.
