It's been kinda sorta available since mid-November, but it wasn't since the past week or two that Terra Soft's
Yellow Dog Linux 5.0 was freely available (i.e. you didn't have to pay $100 for the DVDs) to make all your
open-source PS3 dreams come true. Granted, they've made it pretty damned difficult to find the free version online, but supposedly it's a done deal. For the uninitiated, anyone looking for a more refined and
pre-packaged approach to getting Linux on their PlayStation 3 should look no further than the Yellow Dog for Sony's officially sanction build; so what we want to know is, for those lucky and brave enough to have a PS3 and try to install Linux on it (respectively), what have your experiences been like with the Dog? Has it been worth your while? We're still holding out until Ubuntu gives us the love we crave. Well, that or until the OSS community get started on making an XBMC-like PS3 interface, since Sony believes all of your home's media should live on the PS3, and not on a media server. Right.
Brent i was wondering if you can help me install snes emulator on my ps3 please. I would greatly appreciate it. I love SNES. I want to play it so bad on my PS3 but I don't know how to do it exactly. Please help me. Thanks.
I'm not too impressed so far. It doesn't appear to be able to establish a wireless connection. If it does, I havn't been able to figure out how to set it up. I sadly spent the 100.00 for the pre-packaged version...big mistake. I'll give it a little time and see if they eventuall come up with a fix for the wireless connection problem before I take it completely off my system.
I'm new to Linux and PS3...I've gotten to the point where the kboot prompt comes up..and I have the iso file on a dvd-r in the drive but when I try to "install" or "installtext", it says not found...
Do I need to have the iso file in a certain directory on the dvd?
Please help!! Thanks!
go on google and search "How to burn ISOs to a CD"
Robert Sak,
i think you've misunderstood that iso file can't be burnt as a data dvd disc, there is a function in your burning software saying that "burn image dvd", if you choose it, you have to select an iso file to burn, if completed burning, you may see a few files/directories in the new burnt dvd.
best wish
doesnt the PS3 Dual boot so you can choose which one to run??
