Chestnut Hill Sound set to launch "George" iPod sound system
It may not extend its reach into as many rooms as some iPod sound systems, but Chestnut Hill Sound's upcoming "George" unit looks to at least one up Apple's own Hi-Fi in the functionality (and price) department. Set to come in at a cool $550 next month, George will handle both iPod playback and AM/FM radio duties, each controllable though the detachable wireless remote, which has its own LCD display and range of controls (check it out up close after the break). What's more, the system uses the ZigBee wireless protocol (good for up to 25 feet), which would seem to open up some home automation possibilities, although Chestnut Hill only goes so far as to hint at it, mentioning that George "improves and expands to fit your life." Maybe they'll be willing to spill a few more details when George makes its official debut later this month at CES.[Via Crave]

Is there really a market for $500+ single piece stereo systems, like this? Is the sound quality really top notch? What about seperation of the left and right channels?
You can get GREAT sound out of a Bang and Olufsen BeoLab 2500, and get it for under $600 on eBay.

And I just shelled out some cash on a Bose Sounddock.

Save some money and just buy an 1/8 inch to RCA cable and hook any PMP up to your existing stereo system. Assuming your setup takes RCA inputs.

i saw a pretty nice 1000w sony surround stereo sound system at walmart for about $300
im sure there are better deals and better systems at actual electronics stores
who in their right mind would buy this overpriced ipod shit over a surround sound setup. you can even buy a wireless doc for your ipod if you dont want to move

Am I the only one who read the title and thought that it was another George Foreman branded thing?
It's so good, he put his name on it!

Believe it or not, George isn't at home.
Please leave a message at the beep.
I must be out, or I'd pick up the phone.
Where could I be?
Believe it or not, I'm not home!

Yeah not sure about the name, but the real question is how does this thing sound. According to their website (www.chillsound.com)the system is bi-amped and has a dedicated downfiring subwoofer, yada yada yada. The CEO worked with Bang & Olufsen, among other audio comapnies. Personally, I was waiting for a playback system to combine a radio and full-function iPod like remote. Check out the flash vid for a better look.

Some of the folks at Chestnut Hill Sound are ex-Lexicon guys (MC-12, 480L, 960L, etc...). They know all about pro audio. This thing will sound pretty darn good.
