Asus W5Fe with SideShow announced
We knew Asus was coming out with a SideShow-enabled laptop, we knew it was happening at CES alongside Vista's coming-out, and now we've got it: the W5Fe has a fat, ugly auxiliary display to accompany its 12-inch widescreen display. It also features Core 2 Duo processors, Intel 802.11a/b/g, up to 1.5GB RAM and 160GB of drive space, an integrated 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, ExpressCard port, VGA and TV-out, and so on. But we know the SideShow novelty is what's most important: that will give you a 2.8-inch QVGA display with 1GB of independent flash memory for installing widgets and even media.

Slideshow basically makes your laptop into a HUGE CELL PHONE.

Pretty nifty. I'm going to forgive the hump because it's the first laptop with sideshow (that I'm aware of, feel free to correct me), otherwise it's a nice design.

I dunno... that hump just seems a tad TOO BIG for a simple sideshow interface or w/e. It's ridiculous.

I'm looking forward to more sideshow devices in the next couple days. I expect them to announce Zune and xbox360 sideshow capabilities too.
I cant wait for this wireless keyboard for my living room's media center!

Wow, that buldge is huge. I would never get a laptop with a giant speed bump on it.

I guess this site doesn't care if it's bias is shown. The auxiliary screen may be ugly to you, but to everyone else, who cares?
rufus @ Jan 6th 2007 10:06PM
the question is why they choose to put it there ugly like that. i mean, it completelly demolishes the word laptop.
it could have been located on teh side as a display that pops out(turns into cellphone maybe?) there are ingenious ways to what sideshow can do, then, there are rushed products with NO R&D.

LOL u cant tell how big the hump is its probably a slight 1/4th inch hump... remember this is a friggin ultralight 12" laptop so try putting it in perspective, if it was a 17" and the hump looked like that in the picture then ya it'd be huge but this is a tiny laptop
This is the first sideshow laptop it wont be the best... DUHHHHH

I already own a W5Fe and looking at that pic the aux display looks almost as thick as the screen itself.
Plus I'd be worried about how much you were flexing the screen underneath by pushing those buttons.
I'm looking forward to the desktop aux displays, something like those moto video phones that are so distinctive in 24 ctu offices.
Russ @ Jan 7th 2007 12:49PM
i'm sorry.. but... does anyone realize that the auxiliary display is on the back of the main.. which means no using it while using the computer... i guess i kinda thought half the point of the aux display was to use in conjunction with the regular display... as a dock or something.. am i wrong?is that not the purpose of it at all.. is it only for when you're not using your comp regular?
