Ojo Portable Video phone

Ojo was showing off its latest device -- a travel version of the Ojo Video Phone -- and we had a chance to catch it in action. This was a prototype, but they do plan to have it to market by the middle of the year. The device is compatible with other Ojo Video phones like the Shadow and will retail for around $275, which is considerably cheaper than the Shadow. Aside from the smaller form factor and portability of the device, it is designed to be able to deal with poor connections at hotels and hotspots.

The unit is portable, but not compact -- easily small enough to to fit in a brief case.

the workers at CTU use this on 24, too bad Edgar's gone so Chloey and Edgar can't fight via video phone anymore.
There is a resason that this technology has not caught on sooner. Its not new, we have been able to do this for 10's of years. People want privacy. Who wants to make sure they look good, and check their hair before the take a call? Either way my mobile phone can do this...
Someone time why i am wrong, but i really dont see the point of this device. It's massive, ugly as sin, you can use a web cam and a laptop instead, and so many cell phones have video calling now. I'm confused as to what the market really is????
The OjO is ideal for people who are Deaf, and the agencies that work with them. I dare say your cell phones wouldn't be of any help in a situation in which a sign language interpreter was needed to communicate with a deaf person. And many web cams don't have the field of vision that the OjO has, which is important with sign language. THAT's the use of this.

I have a feeling I know something about Apple's Rev B iPhone already. My God the CEO has brass balls at Ojo. I'll give him that but can't see this brick flying anywhere but out the window? ;-)

No execs ever get that video phones rely on a network effect. If everyone had a video phone you might have a compelling product...maybe. Soon enough webcams will be integrated into all laptops (thanks Apple and Sony for starting this trend) and maybe then video conferencing will catch on.
Just jumping on the "Why? Dear god why?" bandwagon. Anybody considering buying one of these things already has a laptop.

I just can't see any conceivable market.
I am not the same taylor as above, but I have an htc TYtn and i have cingular hsdpa unlimited, I have made a dozen video calls already, I don't understand why they would bother making one of these, and so bulky! this is not a good looking device
It looks like an inflated GMate Yopy. And we all know what happened to the Yopy.
(And if you've never actually heard of or scene the Yopy...well, that kinda says it all right there doesn't it ?)
Excellent! This will be great for my computer-phobic mom when she moves out of town back to her homeplace. I was contemplating getting her a Mac so that we can videochat, but this will be much less expensive!
I will never understand why this technology just doesn't ever stop. The only "good" use is in the "adult industry".
why is this news? Europeans/Australians can do this with the RAZR V3x and RAZR MAXX and those are many times smaller than this brick....

I think that all of you are being way too harsh on this product. The video quality is much better than say your average webcam.....which has a video output quality comparible to a Charlie Chaplin era movie. I think that given a chance this will fair well on the market.

We've had mobile phones that have been doing video calling for years here in Europe and they are the same size as a normal phone.

This Travel Ojo is made by the same company which created the futuristic Ojo which won the coveted Best of Innovations Award at the 2005 CES and the Ojo is being marketed worldwide now! This is a marvelous product and you are fooling yourself if you think it will not sell in the millions and will be a major growth stock in the years to come. Only 40M shares in the float! That means there will not be enough shares to satiate the institutions once quarterly earnings/revenue report comes in.
The Travel Ojo will enable traveling business folks to connect with their families at home on their Ojo over WIFI connection to the internet. Ojo to Ojo. Once you have seen and experienced this in reality there is no substitute.

I have four of the original Ojo's. I love them...and they are cheap and simple to operate. And, yes, I bought some stock in the company as well. That's how good it is. Try one and you'll stop all the negative "me too" BS. You guys amaze me with how little you know and how you try to sound like you do.
I threw my webcam away; what junk! You techies may want to screw around with webcams, PC hookup and small-screen cell phones, but give me the Ojo. I don't have time to waste.
Please help out a novice. My brother is moving to L.A. and as a gift to him and my parents I am getting each of them an Ojo phone so that my parents can see him (and their grandchild) more often. I am hoping someone can recommend to me what "homeplug" to get so that my parents' Ojo phone does not have to be kept in the basement where the computer is. I have no familiarity with this technology, so if someone could recommend a specific product (and the number of homeplugs they would need) it would be greatly appreciated. Ojo's customer service recommeneded certain routers, but they did not recommend any homeplugs. Thanks in advance.
I bought three last year. One for my baby sister who was moving 1000 miles away, one for me and one for my mom. WE USE IT ALL THE TIME AND LOVE BEING ABLE TO SEE THE NIECES/GRANDKIDS.
