LG's KE850 PRADA official: iPhone says, wha?
Check it Apple, LG just went official with their iPhone look-a-like LG KE850 Prada phone which they proudly tout as the world's "first completely touch screen mobile phone." Er, unless you consider the ones from Motorola, HTC, and others. Still, this is more than likely a dig at the iPhone which they can rightly make since the KE850 will hit select mobile shops and PRADA stores in the UK, France, Germany and Italy at the end of February and parts of Asia before March is through. Sadly, the KE850 is a non starter for the US market since this version is limited to tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 with EDGE data. It's smaller than its fruity peer at just 98.8 x 54 x 12-mm resulting in a more compact, 3.0-inch display presumably with that 240 x 400 resolution we heard about earlier. In case you're keeping track (and we know you are), the iPhone goes quad-band GSM with EDGE and WiFi in a 115 x 61 x 11.6-mm shell sporting a 3.5-inch, 320 x 480 display. Also, the KE850 seems to lack any significant on-board storage opting instead for microSD to boost capacity. Like the iPhone, it packs a 2 megapixel camera (with Schneider-Kreuznach lens and LED flash) and Bluetooth 2.0. However, there's no mention of multi-touch capabilities, an on-screen keyboard, or the accelerometer and proximity sensors found on the iPhone. The KE850 PRADA's UI is Macromedia Flash-based and opts for a minimalist, white-on-black display as opposed to the more, shall we say, OS Xish GUI we've already seen floated. Feature-wise, the KE850 comes with a video player supporting MPEG-4, H.264, and oddly, H.263 normally used for video conferencing; a document viewer supporting Microsoft's PPT, DOC, XLS formats, PDF and TXT; an audio player with support for MP3/ACC/ACC+/WMA/RA formats; and a "music multitasking function for messaging," whatever that is. How much? €600/$778... that's how much. Still, a compelling choice for those who can't wait for the iPhone's Q4 European introduction or 2008 Asia launch. what i think is that u need to stop trying to compeat with a ipod and make a phone a phone but just much better i mean it can have songs but u are more worried about the ipod then u are your customers and there the ones giving you the money
Bottom line is, new generation phones will become touch screen, not because of Jobs ingenuity but because of popular demand. Phones are perplex and can do many tasks, touch screens is just where we are at.
Cheap! Cheap! Cheap!
For Prada that is... This is nothing compared to $300 retail for a kids shirt, $250 ladies panties and $500 men's socks.
So once again the Monolith is the king of all designs. Very original...
The word is functionality and the odds that the prada phone lives up to the experience the iphone will provide is too ridiculous to be an issue. Apple's intelligent design is the music between the notes; allowing users to enjoy the symphony. The prada phone not only misses the mark, it's not even in the same game. Nice try prada, but it's the little things that kill.
Haha like it LG - NOT. More asian crap that attempts to copy style and culture. Nice try - try harder ROFL!. Apple FTW - you're just digging a hole for yourselves, that noone made you dig, LG.
What a tedious joke.
Do I need to yawn any louder?!. You can't copy a heritage and individual identity. Only fools will buy a copy - they fool themselves into thinking it's better _ LOL!!!
psh...iPhone blows this out of the water. So what if Prada and LG rushed to get this out...iPhone is better on so many levels. Plus what they showed in San Fran might not be the completely finished product. Who knows what else they will add...
Sorry guys, I go with Apple all the way
am i the only one that thinks the phone isn't that hot looking? i mean, for being a "designer" phone, it looks nice, sleek, but um, i fail to see the "beauty" of it, and why it should cost more because it has PRADA written on it. i've seen plenty of well designed UI's and exteriors of a similar style. it doesn't look high end couture at all in my opinion.
Cute girl... But the phone is worthless..
A good idea - WIFI = Crap
I don't care what your going to say about 3g or edge or what ever your going to say.. Any device with a screen larger then 3 inches should have Wifi, its dependable, its everywhere, its simple, its effective... No excuse for no wifi..
What are you ppl talking about??
LG launched their model in public 6 month earlier than IPHONE! omg all tech ppl know this fact
Stupid Ipod lovers!
RESEARCH FIRST BEFORE YOU LEAVE ANY COMMENT

Looks great BUT: the whole touchscreen craze will quickly lose its appeal once customers actually have a chance to get their fingers on one. I had a Sprint PPC 6700 which had the touch screen capability. I was blindsided enough to buy one and after one month returned it - touchscreens are absolutely terrible to use.
- You get smudges on the screen everytime you use your phone
- You might scratch the screen with your fingernails
- You can't use the phone by touch only, you have to look at the screen while typing
- Sometimes the touchscreen software doesn't register your typing, resulting in wrong or skipped numbers
- Since touchscreen phones tend to have much larger screens, your face/cheek will press against the screen, hence increasing the smudges. Girls, if you wear makeup prepare to have your screen become a gooey mess as soon as you use it.
After using the phone a few times the screen was a mess, smudges and fingerprints everywhere (and I do wash my hands, thank you very much), and really depreciated the overall look of the phone.
The functionality of touchscreens in theory sounds great but actually using one will drive customers nuts. I forsee the whole touchscreen thing die out quickly.
But go ahead and get your iPhone or Prada phone or one of the other trendy little buggers. They do look soooo neat, don't they. Just don't expect the phone store to take your phone back for a refund. You've been warned. :)
ok, well its been said imitation is a form of flattery and so far all I see is copycats. Nothing comes close to the engineering team at Apple. Those guys at Apple are the Bomb. I cant wait for my iPhone in June! Gives me time to break the news to my current phone. Forget all these copycats, I go with originality all the way.
the new iPhone is going to be much better quality then this "first ever touch screen phone"
yuhuuu...iPhone design with first completely "MULTI"-touch screen phone. Prada design with First Uncomplete touch screen phone, see the the buttons down there more looks like O2 products...so don't compare with iPhone anyways
i think 3g version will be announced later like KU970
To all the people saying Prada's interface is crap compaired to the iPhone.
And that the iPhone will rock.
Or vis-versa.
Have YOU acctually held either of these products in YOUR hand, and acctually USED one?
I doubt it.
To you guys judging the Prada on it's looks and specs.
Well you only have pictures and specs on the iPhone too. :O oh snap.
So please, stop this useless talk, you all have your own opinion, stop trying to change other peoples, it just wont work.
Both Phones have different target audiences, get over it. Prada's is obviously for a fashion peeps, while Apples is a geek toy.
Get over it.
Nobody ripped anybody off. Niether of these phones are knock-offs.
They don't claim to be one another, they claim to be their own device, with it's own standards.
God shut up already.
Hey, I just want to ask, if someone know if it is possible to buy iphone without singing a contract.
It's a fantastic design from Prada become a LG Prada Phone at the first moment I saw it I'm so in love with it how a beautiful & style that make just one word I can say "I Love It."
ur all looking way to far into the technology of these phones and comparing them to much when they are very different in the aspect of what they were designed for...the choice is
you can have a really nice looking phone which LG and Prada spent most of their time marketing the product to be more of a fashion statement rather than a highly capable piece of technology, for those who want a small sleek phone with and mp3 and the camera which i barely use anyway.
or
you can go for the apple iphone which was designed to appeal to those who like technology and enjoy the slighlty more capable phone, which i personally think is a waste of time when i have a laptop and an ipod..for my internet and music
yeah im going to say the prada phone is more for me...
LG-KE850 phone is an amazing phone i biught mine and its great, i also have some for sale
contact me my email is
rowkin66@yahoo.com
thanks
Do YOU come with the phone?
Great looking fone, and thats it.the fact that it cannot download straight to a memory card is a major pain, plus the memory it has on the fone is far to small. it struggles to take anymore then 2 to 3 mp3 downloads before momory full. very disapointing in that respect.unless im making a complete arse of it all. pse advise if so!
For those people who don't know how knock-offs work. Companies are allowed to see the product before the rest of the public. Then they (the companies) go back to there tech and IT dept. They (the companies) then show there guys (IT and tech guys) how the rivaling product works and how to mimic the rivaling product. In essence it is a knock off.
The LG phone was designed and released before the iPhone had an official form... Steve jobs stole the concept from LG as well as stole the name from Cisco systems, if you don't believe check out wikipedia to see for yourself.
the i phone isnt out in england and the lg prada that i got was £399 thats like $700
just be glad your in america and can get both phones cheaper than england. they are both good phones
be glad you can get both phones cheaper in america. in england its expensive and there is no iphone.
i gotta say that this phone looks pretty gay in an owner of the iPhone and i have to say i think anyone would have a hard time competing with it and also i love how they said the first "totally touch screen phone" umm so i wonder what thoughs call answer and call hang up buttons are on the bottom? it just looks soo stupid and i dont think it will be able to get anywhere near as popular as the iPhone
and by the bye i have to say thats simply stupid -.- models for prada will be sporting this phone which will make all the little wanna be models buy it. trust me i know. their hanging on my every word whenever we start to talk about this phone. and for two when its released in the US half of us will only be able to buy the prada because at&t's coverage SUCKS. i am constantly letting people that switched to at&t just for the iphone use my phone cause they cant get any service. and not just here. when i go to maine when we go to NY when we go to florida. for some reason or another...wait maybe its just the iphone... just theorizing
Has anybody realized that the comparisons of these two phones are dimwitted, the only reason their even being compared are because of the similarities in design which was probably done ON PURPOSE so that both companies could sell a few more t the idiots who absolutely HAVE to buy both and compare them.
anyways Some people are fans of Prada and/or LG and if we like this phone better we do, where some people like/have been hypnotized by apple, and while i do rock an 80GB ipod i still find apple and itunes over-rated. anyways put at point blank The iphone is the iphone the prada is the prada.
by the bye where i live if you have AT&T your screwed. no service here. anywhere. only t-mobile and verizon. and quite frankly i like being with verizon and knowing that i can still get enough service underground at BG to text.
Yeah, iPhone says: "what the fuck, LG made a phone? We're not worried because it's a piece of shit". LG is the former 'Gold Star Brand'. Goldstar is a perfect example of a crappy Korean company re-branding itself with a more 'American' name. The Prada may look nice, but it's guts are made by a shitty company.
