Asus set to unveil LED-backlit U1F laptop at CeBIT
Apparently, Asus didn't have quite enough fun dishing out swank new laptop gear at CES, as the firm is now prepared to unveil its first LED-backlit machine at this year's CeBIT Show in Hanover, Germany. The ultralight U1F weighs in at just 2.2-pounds, and sports an 11.1-inch WXGA+ LED-backlit screen, steel edges, leather-clad palm rests, black motif, an ultra-low voltage Intel Core Duo processor, and of course, will come pre-loaded with Windows Vista. Unfortunately, Asus isn't spilling any more details on this one until the time is just right, but hopefully this noticeable move towards LED-backlit lappies will persuade a few other firms out there to follow suit, and soon.[Via Laptoping]

Does anyone know if LED lit screens use more or less power then traditional screens?
LongshotX @ Jan 30th 2007 12:37PM

Im not sure Jason, I beleve they use less power and are brighter but, I may be mistaken.

Maybe this'll be the platform that the 11.1" MacBook Pro is based on...

This should be great as far as lifetime and brightness goes. Incidentally, assuming the lighting is done by some array of LEDs, it is conceivable that people could hack this to get the functionality of that touch display Jeff Han designed, though it might be somewhat low-resolution. (See .)
Still, is it just me, or is there a dark spot in the lower-right corner? :P

it touches my heart! (look at screen on laptop)

This looks just like my VAIO SZ-160
The LED screens are supposed to be less power consuming. Also they are the brightest screens I've ever seen (will hurt your eyes in the dark at full power). Plus, they can be made super thin.
I hate that textured look :-(

Sweet mother of Jesus, I'd easily kill for this laptop!

What is all the fuss about Vista(Windows XP SP3)? after all, if you don't have the Ultimate version, be prepare for some disappointment. About Asus, I think they're alway quite sexy and this LED, much tinner, screen is quite a revolution witch will probably be in the upcoming Apple products.
