LG's BH100 HD DVD / Blu-ray player officially hits stores
After the world's first HD DVD / Blu-ray hybrid player has been talked about forever, showcased at CES, rumored around a bit more, received a price tag, hit a potential production snag, shown up in stores anyway, withstood a review, and smiled real pretty for the camera, what else is there to do? Ah, yes, we must make things official. Nearly three weeks after LG's BH100 went on sale in a variety of big box retailers, the player is just now becoming an item that's "officially on sale," and should be taking over the DVD player section of your nearest Best Buy, Circuit City, and CompUSA locations. No, it's not receiving any kind of price cut just yet, and it still doesn't rock the official HD DVD seal of approval, but now you can pick up a two-in-one player of your very own with LG's belated acknowledgement.

I have the Tosh HD-A1 and will only rent movies until the format wins or loses. I don't even buy my "must haves" on HD DVD. I figure worst case scenario is I have a solid upconverter.
Buying a dual combo player WOULD allow me to rent Blu Ray titles, but again, I wouldn't dare stock up on BR purchases in the event that format tanks.
I'm just going to start my own open format. Who's in?? :)

It's a great idea, but i'll be waiting until it's under $200. Even then thats a bit too much, I think. Especially for an LG.
Then again, if they really want the industry to take off, they'll need to get this down under $70 next to their other players.

other then seeing how this would be great for HDTV owners who have 1080p HDTVs, but the downside is that it wont support HDMI 1.3(a?), which i know is a lot better then my families' 720p HDTV, dated Nov. 04.
i would be better off getting the hybrid player ONCE it has an offical HD DVD approval seal, HDi, n support of HDMI 1.3(a?)
ive just lost interest when i heard the downsides to this hybrid player, plus, i hate my families' 55-inch 720p HDTV, but it is the best one we got until i can buy myself one *coughSEDTVcough*

...or you could buy a $500 PS3, and a $500 (cheaper if you shop for it online) Toshiba HD-A2. On top of saving at least $200, you'll be picking up an honest-to-goodness HD DVD certified player! Oh the thought!
