iPhone June 15 date a hoax -- game on
Sorry everybody, we hate to be the bearers of bad news for you iPhone obsessives, but that iPhone FCC letter dating it at June 15th? It was a hoax. Our eagle-eyed friends over at Phone Scoop noted that the confidentiality agreement document is, in actuality, photoshopped. We looked into the original filing for that new Airport Extreme base station (FCC BCGA1143), which expired January 15th (days after the Airport device was announced), and is so far as we can tell they're wholly identical (save a bit of photo manipulation). That confidentiality agreement outlines a device for use on all the right frequencies for an 802.11a/b/g/n device (5180 - 5240MHz, 5190 - 5230MHz, 5745 - 5825MHz, 5755 - 5795MHz, 2412 - 2462MHz, 2422 - 2452MHz), too, so there's not a whole lot of doubt left. So, to everyone who thought they'd be getting their iPhone this June: sorry, we're all still in the dark on when Apple's going to launch. Click on for a bigger shots of the hoax FCC doc.

Hey about they make it interesting and release it next week at 3GSM to go along with the WIndows Mobile 6 announcement? Yeah, didn't think so.

The e-mail Cingular sent me said June:
Available in June, the iPhone features:
- Visual voicemail, an industry first, lets you access messages individually
- 3.5-inch multi-touch display allows you to control iPod and phone functions using only your fingers
- Quad-band GSM and supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0
Stay tuned–more exciting details to follow in the coming months!

hahaha that was a good hoax. I bet someone is laughing their ass off.

Who cares? Apple already said it's coming out in June. If anything this letter turning out to be a fake means it could come out sooner. I don't see how this being fake is a disappointment.
Shon @ Feb 8th 2007 2:52PM
i dont see what the big deal was anyway. Jobbsy already said june, and im sure soon enough they'll hit us up with an exact date. It was an extremely lame hoax.

If you read the comments section in your original article, you would have learned the same thing...

Those docs are definitely for the new AirPort Extreme.
The header on this PDF reads: "802.11a/b/g/n Access Point"

If you SAW the keynote, they SAY it is coming in June. (so, make that July) ;)

Apple wants to release it in June, but they won't be allowed to unless they settle the lawsuits with Cisco. Cisco will get a court injunction to prevent the release of the product pending the resolution of the iPhone usage for the name. It's the same scenario everyone was worried about during the RIM/NTP lawsuits over the Blackberry, until it was settled out of court. It amazes me that no one considers this possibility and just assumes Apple can just use any iName it wants to.

I still can't believe Verizon passed on hosting the iPhone... with their coverage, it would be a no brainier. Cingular coverage is soo spotty if you live outside a big city. I'll wait for a CDMA or for GSM to up their coverage. Still a frigging awesome phone. I hope the touchscreen has some scratch protection on it.

LoopRumors made this fake. I just deleted the bookmark and will never read their website again : http://www.looprumors.com/index.php?exclusive-official-iphone-release-date

"LoopRumors made this fake."
LoopRumors has been trying hard to gain some attention and users from the rumormill community. I still remember that CNBC iPhone interview back in November with Bob from LoopRumors and Arnold from Macrumors and Arnold was at least very articulate and could quickly think on his feet in answering the questions (for those who haven't seen it, it's on Youtube as Apple iPhone on CNBC). I wasn't impressed with the LoopRumors guy. That shows with his site as most of the recent stuff on it is just wild ass guessing.
