It looks like HP's taking another shot at the Smartphone market -- a market it's only
halfheartedly attempted to breach in the past -- with the new iPAQ 510 Voice Messenger. The candybar (which, in our humblest of opinions, bears an uncanny resemblance to the
Nokia N70) will run
Windows Mobile 6 Standard and top out with quadband GSM / EDGE, though the inclusion of 802.11b / g spices things up a bit on the data side and throws the possiblity of VoIP into the mix. A quick glance at the spec sheet shows a 220 x 176 display, 128MB ROM and 64MB RAM, microSD expansion, Bluetooth 1.2, and a lowly 200MHz OMAP850 to keep everything humming along without killing battery juice. See the latest iPAQ minus the glitz and glamor of the press photography in the gallery!

So no video calls? (judging by the lack of front mounted camera).

I stopped reading after 200 MHz.
I don't know. I like smartphones and pocket pc's... I really do, and I have an MDA.
But I'm really fed up with the slow as hell CPU...
Also there aren't enough pocket pc's equipped with GPS.
I know some exist but they are priced out of my range being a college student.

Am I supposed to be impressed at all?

This phone has the exact same specs as the Imate SP% that has been out for almost 2 years. why even bother making a phone with these anemic specs. you could get the same phone in a much nicer form factor in the cingular 3125

Bah Humbug.. As others have said, this phone just sucks. My N80 has better specs, the screen is terrible on that HP. That should come free with a 2 year contract, it certainly isn't worth any money.

220 x 176 display? WTF are they smoking at HP?

I don't see the resemblance to the Nokia N70 at all, other than the fact that they are both candybar type phones. What exactly are you referring to?

What this article left out is that the phone also works on WI-FI
