Nokia's E90 communicator launched!
You saw the first photos right here on Engadget. Now, Nokia brings the official specs on their S60-series E90 Communicator. Like we heard, it brings quad-band GSM, WiFi, and HSDPA radios along with a 3.2 megapixel camera with flash (and second up front for video calls). Better yet, it does indeed pack integrated GPS and Nokia Maps for all you corporate jet-setters. Expect the E90 to hit in Q2 (volume shipments in Q3) for an unsubsidized price of between "750-800" -- they don't say but we're thinking that's euros or about $1000 of the green stuff. Damn, best put this one on the corporate account where it belongs.

Melvin, I wonder where are you based? Please send me your price for E90
I saw the actual unit here in Jeddah Saudi Arabia, but the price is shocking, they take advantage of the limited stocks because its new, it is smaller than 9500 and a bit wider than 9500, hindges are not the same as 9300 and 9500, but haven't tried its operation, hope it is better than 9300 and 9500 because I have used both models. Hope they make the same advance features in 9300 models coz its really handy.
The E90 is a lovly phone what would the price,I am form Barbados.
very nice mobile.
Melvin? I think u r a fake and your U$.350.00 is a scam! If it sounds to good it probably is to good to be true! You want to see money and there is NO guarantee that the phone ever will be delivered, when I was askin you about guarantee of delivery you got upset! People on this platform watch out for this guy!
can any one tell me were i can get a black nokia E90 from in the united kingdom ba_cunningham@hotmail.com
I purchased a Brand New E90 in Singapore on 20-July-2007. After using the phone for 3 days, the phone started to develop a loud static buzzing sound during calls, this sound was present using both the “handset mode” and also during the “speakerphone mode”. It got so bad that both parties could not hear each other.
I called the customer care hotline in Singapore (6822-8888) as was told to send my phone to the nearest Nokia Care Location. I arrived at the Nokia Care Centre at Wheelock Place at 3:18pm on 25-July and was told that I would be placed in the “premium queue” as the E90 was a premium phone. I finally got to see a Customer Service Agent (Alvin Lagarto) at 4:23pm, over a one hour wait. During my one hour five minute wait, I chanced upon two other persons in queue who had the same problem with their E90. When I asked Alvin if this was a known problem, he said he did not know (Alvin Lagarto admitted that he was the more senior person in the Nokia Care Centre during my visit). When the other person with the same E90 problem and I told him that we wanted to speak to the most senior technical person on-site, Alvin went into the repair room and emerged a few minutes later saying that the technical people were too busy to see us. Alvin then admitted that the E90 static-buzzing problem was common. We then asked that both our E90 phones (each less than a week old) be replaced, Alvin responded that this was not their policy. He then proceeded to inform us that the phones would take 3-5 working days to be repaired. Our new phones would spend more time in the workshop then they spent with us, unbelievable isn’t it. The least Nokia could have done was to offer the buyers of their “premium phone” a one-to-one replacement (or are they afraid that the replacement phones would also develop the same static-buzzing after a few days use).
Anyway, for those of you out there considering the E90, I want to share with you my experience, and those of the two others waiting in line with me.
Well after reading your comment I will definately wait a bit longer to buy the E90, I don't have time to walk in and out of a service centre all the time, thanks for the info
I have been a nokia user for quite some time now, using various models each time there is an upgraded one. However, i haven't tried using a communicator ever since. May i inquire if the e90 could create excel, word, and powerpoint files directly on the e90 unit? I mean without using a laptop or pc anymore? I read from one of the reviews that excel can;t be created on the desktop.
I hope your problem has been fixed, or has it? I was really planningto buy a unit tomorow, but now have second thoughts after reading your comments.
I hope you could send me a reply.
Thank you very much.
thanks for the information...!!!
plz tell me aft u got ir repaired wat is the present situation???any more bugs???
plz do reply
AS FOR NOKIA E90 COMMUNICATOR..THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN WRITING FOR QUITE SOMETIME, BUT WE IN INDIA ARE BEING CHEATED BY NOKIA..LEFT - RIGHT & CENTRE,SO BEWARE OF THE E90...I AM SUFFERING.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I acknowledge receipt of your mail of September 25, 2007 and have noted the stereo type contents of the same. To begin with and as informed by you vide your above mail. I need very much to highlight the fact that it is now over 24 hours and no representative of Nokia has contacted me so far, not that I expected someone from Nokia to do so.
However I need to remind Nokia that during the past few days I have done a bit of survey and it really is shocking to have learned that Nokia at this point in time happens to be the Mobile Phone Co. with the poorest Quality Assurance Process and above all the worst in terms of Product Support. A simple proof of this fact would be substantiated by a simply send a decoy Nokia official to obtain service from any Nokia Care Center in New Delhi...I can only assure you that the Nokia official so sent would never buy a Nokia Phone again...need I say more.
I'd hate to take legal action against a Multi Billion Dollar Company who I suppose would expend millions of dollars in a court of law to tell a million more lies....however there are other issues beyond law and lawyers...it is about honesty..and about breaking the faith of the one source that made nokia...which is ...the CUSTOMER..that should probably be enough...but I guess here to a customer will lose..because Nokia even hires people, pays fat salaries...to tell bigger lies...all this for what? To cheat more...tell more lies...we often refer to this as customer support...or lack of it..
I once again list for you the details of my woes:
Purchased Nokia E90 Communicator IMEI No. 353660010599052
Vide Invoice No. Rm/6145/07 dated 27/07/2007 of M/s. Royal Mobiles, 10/127, Malviya Nagar, New Delhi - 110 017.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Phone went faulty (Micro Phone packed up) on 13/09/2007, took it to Nokia Care - Star Mobitel Pvt. Ltd., G-26, Lower ground Floor, South Extn. Part I, New Delhi-49. They inspected vide their Service Job Sheet No. 393434038/070913/98 and commented
"In stock we dont have part available so, we are send through our head office for repair and it will take 7 to 10 days" (exact language)...Not satisfied I took the phone back....with a remark on the Job Sheet..."How can a customer leave a business Phone for 7/10 days ...are you Joking?....a copy of the Job Sheet in question is in my possession...as should be with Star Mobitel.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the next 6 days I tried every possible way to get some help from Nokia Care, but to no avail, and finally I re-approached M/s. Royal Mobiles and requested for their help...I suppose they entirely and helplessly understood my problem. They not only provided me with a stand by phone, but took the phone from me and assured to take up the matter on my behalf...
They Submitted the above phone on my behalf to:
Nokia Care, S-10, Green park Extn. (Near Uphar Cinema), New Delhi..
Vide Job Sheet No. 1500248681 dated 19/09/2007 - (Job Sheet in favour of Royal Mobiles)
However upto the time of writing and as confirmed by Royal Mobiles - There is no response whatsoever from Nokia Care So far....they have also not been able to assign any specific reason for the delay so far. However it is their claim that Nokia has encountered an unprecedented failure with this phone on 2 major counts 1) Failure of Microphone 2) Scratches on the Inside screen because of faulty design of keyboard...this fact has been verified by me through the Internet as well.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I suppose the above has caused me enough trouble, which really includes making a trip every evening to the above vendor, as if I was being treated for some incurable disease. I also have to admit that even if I desired, I would hate to ever venture into making an investment on a Nokia Phone in future. I therefore request or rather plead to Nokia through their support team, to kindly support my cause rather than the phone and help obtain a full refund for the phone that I wrongly or mistaking bought either by way of innocence or foolishness...
I do hope this email of mine would finally be responded to with fair amount of positivity and with a true purpose to justify the reason why Nokia Customer Care is in existence, if not it will only substantiate the fact that large companies use Customer Care as a mere cover up agency...yet spend millions of dollars to tell millions of lies through their glossy advertisements..
Imagine a customer buying your premium phone...is actually treated as if he had been robbed..
I do hope you all will do justice as is expected...(100% Refund....with an assurance, never to destroy a customers f aith due to your own shortcomings...
Awaiting your immediate & positive response
With every good wish & warm regards

What puzzles me is how in heavens name it is possible to see some people, even here on this site, offer the E90 for as little as U$.350.00 dollars, when the E90 is sold on e-bay and around most of the shops for around U$.1,000.00 dollars.
Referring to Chris Chong his comment on this site I would love to hear fm other users to find out if they face similar problems with the E90 or maybe even other bugs.
1) Any ideas on exact dates in the UK? O2 say sometime in August, Carphone Warehouse don't have a clue.
2) Can I run MS applications on it bearing in mind it's a Symbian OS?
I want to buy nokia e90 for $350usd
This is certainly THE phone i presently use the 9300i but the E90 swept me off my feet.
The Nokia E90 is like the rest of Nokia's phones; the specs look great, but the user experience sucks. This latest Communicator is a joke; it is painfully apparent that the Series 60 UI was thoughtlessly cut and pasted onto the legacy Communicator form factor. My husband works for Nokia and we laugh at this phone all the time!
I have had the e90 for a month now and think it is brilliant. They have rectified almost every shortcoming of the previous communicators and added vibrating alert to boot.
Sound clarity, processor speed and wireless connectivity all get top marks, not to mention that USB connectivity and the new Nokia PC suite have erased all Nokia's previous sins.
The fact that it is so damn expensive, in my opinion, is a chick magnet!
I would have thought it was a chick magnet also, but my wife laughs at my phone "brickness" all the time (note that she took my very sexy SE p1i). My gal friends also burst out laughing when they saw it (I have a red E90)..then chocked when they heard the price *grin*.
I recently purchased the E90. I switched from using a Sony Ericsson P1i (my wife took my P1i -_- ). I have to say that in terms of ease of use, Symbian UIQ 3 on SE phones are better. Sure there are some nagging issues with the hybrid touch screen/keypad P1i, but those are relatively minor. All in all, you can use the p1i perfectly well on one hand. Also the biggest difference was that SE really gave me a ton of paid sofware with my P1i, making the software offering from SE better than the E90s.
That being said, I like my E90 very much. The keyboard is good, build quality high and sturdy (not as good as the p1i though). The size is big but for people with big chubby hands, it still looks small. Overall it's a very powerful device and nothing to "laugh" at. It may not do things the same way as previous models or have the same features as previous models, but does offer other new features that bridge the gap a little bit between full business and media. As an integrated communications device, E90, in my opinion, does everything I want from my devices + more. I'm just a bit sad that overall, SE provided better value through it's free packaged and downloadable software for the p1i than the E90 does.
Some don't like the full functionality replication when device is closed.
I disagree totally here. In this device, every function works in closed mode, making this the best mix of 1 handed operation like when standing up for 45 minutes on train rides or using in crowded spaces. Likewise, a quick addition of notes or contacts are easily done close rather than have to repeatedly open and close the device for actions that may only take a few seconds.
Standing up, 1 handed, it's a beauty to use. With space, in open form, it's amazing device to use. The S60 OS, while easy to use, is still more confusinf than UIQ 3. I will attribute that to the fact that UIQ 3 interface is more traditionally PDA-like than the S60 interface is. For instance, I could use the P1i right out of the box. Never had to look in the manual for everything. Whereas I had to constantly refer to Nokia online or manual to do something it would take me a few seconds to accomplish without much thought in the P1i.
Ben
i would definitely wait a little longer to buy this phone ,thanx for the comments,i will never want to visit the service centre again in my life,as i to am a victim,i received my phone after a month and a half from the service centre and now i have switched to motorola v3i,love to buy e90 ,i guess i can wait a little longer
Can the E90 use VOIP? and does it hand over from Voip to cell without dropping the call?
Thanks
Elliot

hi
The following article (admittedly pretty old) announced Blackberry Connect 4 for the e90. Has anyone tried to connect to a Blackberry server using it? If so, comments?

thanks in advance ...
Please I want to buy Nokia E90 Communicator. How much is it and where can I buy is from.please.
I to would like to know where to buy this phone
Hello i have the nokia E90,for a long time and i can sey that is really good but the price i payed was 1400Eu,so i think that is a lot of money for this product,if it doesnt do everything.I would be very happy if i could talk, see, chat sent pictures and more with my nokia, but i cant use the communicator as a laptop i mean to be able to hear and see my friends on any kind of messenger, msn have the program but is only for China and Tailand it doesnt work in E.U.And i am sure thats not only the problem sometimes my nokia E90 swich off it self,i dont know why is not the bettery because is full.
If someone knoews something about my problem can you please chat me on kgbangela@hotmail.com,thank you guy's.
I totally agree, the least Nokia can do is to keep its clients happy rather then gaining new ones. Now after reading your comment I would think twice before buying an E90, or I would make sure it is mentioned in “their policy”. Thanks for sharing this.
Anybody tried xcalc on your E90? It's cool!
I have a 9500 which still givesn me excellent service and except for being slow and the sound levels too soft is one of the best I've had.
Looking forward to the E90, I just hope it will be as reliable as my 9500.
hawt.
