The DangerBomb alarm clock: wake or go boom!
Already loosed in Japan, the DangerBomb alarm clock from Banpresto is yet another oddball way of coaxing you into the morning grind. To disable the alarm, you must reconnect the red, yellow, and blue cables in the correct order. Fail your mission and suffer the annoyance -- and possible death -- of a mocked audible explosion. Genius. Just ?2,366 in Japan or $19... if you can get it back through customs.

You don't want to leave this behind in a hotel room.
Croz @ Feb 13th 2007 8:35AM
Forget hotel rooms, I wouldn't like to get one of these through mail order. One way to get landed in trouble with the authorities on a trumped up terrorism charge I guess.
whizperz @ Feb 13th 2007 8:31AM
hahah, nice dig on Boston.
Joel @ Feb 13th 2007 8:49AM
Why not send it to a member of the Boston Bomb squad as a birthday present?

Handbags won't be happy carrying this into plane ;)
Chocolate Starfish @ Feb 13th 2007 9:27AM
Don't forget to set it to go off when ATHF is on!
Rick Lyon @ Feb 13th 2007 9:34AM
Genius? Yea, because I can see myself reconnecting those damn wires every morning for the next few years?
Sam @ Feb 13th 2007 9:44AM
Um actually, if you guys watch movies and stuff you have find the right cable to cut, not reconnect them. If they were all disconnected, then the bomb wouldn't be functioning would it?
I know Engadget is not responsible for the mistranslation of the product info but I thought i'd share: A random cable is selected everyday as the "disarming" cable and if you get it wrong, .
It's much more fun and exciting than just matching colors. Any 3 year old could do that. This product is rated for 15 year olds and up. (really)
strider_mt2k @ Feb 13th 2007 10:05AM
I see no ramifications of any kind from this product.
None.

Vince @ Feb 13th 2007 10:17AM
Nice, I'll be buying one this weekend. It may never be as good as a full night's sleep, but it may just help speed up the morning snooze game. *smile*
drivebybiped @ Feb 13th 2007 11:33AM
Thinkgeek really needs to carry this item.
jimf @ Feb 13th 2007 11:38AM

tom_squick @ Feb 13th 2007 12:39PM
Bond, James Bond.
Olxter @ Feb 13th 2007 1:19PM
If anyone figures out how to order one of these, please share. I need something to make me concentrate on waking up in the mornings not just hitting the snooze button.
Crazylink @ Feb 13th 2007 5:43PM
If you do have to bring it in Boston, hide the batteries!
mcgrathy @ Feb 13th 2007 5:49PM

If you guys find a way to get this state side, please tell!!! I would like to have one just for the sheer novelty of owning such a thing! ^_^
Proxima @ Feb 13th 2007 10:29PM
I have it on good authority that this is the same kind of alarm clock that Jack Bauer has.
Jay @ Feb 13th 2007 10:45PM
I hope jlist or jbox gets these in stock!
