Why would a rebel use Microsoft-backed HD DVD format?
Use regular DVD and/or x264 encoding!
Brad @ Feb 19th 2007 3:10PM
because they are both backed by big companies, either one would technically be a wrong choice
dukrous @ Feb 19th 2007 6:31PM
Cause HD DVD is the underdog right now.
RyanTV @ Feb 19th 2007 2:30PM
you guys must be really bored today!
kenkankendo @ Feb 19th 2007 2:34PM
Which Roosevelt is this? Cause if it's Teddy, then this list isn't thought-out very well. I don't think that the original monopoly-buster would have been too keen on windows...
Nick S @ Feb 19th 2007 2:47PM
@ kenkankendo, do you even know which roosevelt is on the memorial?
I'd put Washington with BitTorrent and Jefferson with AT&T and iPhone. But otherwise looks good.
Kamal @ Feb 19th 2007 7:20PM
Actually, he might. Roosevelt considered some monopolies ok. That's why he was pissed when Taft went after US Steel. There's a history lesson for you.
Das @ Feb 19th 2007 2:39PM
I think Lincoln would have a Dell notebook running windows XP, not the prettiest computer around but effective enough.
I kind of imagine him to be a functional-not flashy kind of guy.
Sizer @ Feb 19th 2007 2:43PM
I think this is pretty amusing, but...
FLAMES AHOY
Electromodo @ Feb 19th 2007 2:44PM
So according to Engadget, all people having 8225, Sansa and MacOS with Parallels should drive PRIUS?????? WHAT!!??
I am pissed :(
;)))
Das @ Feb 19th 2007 2:45PM
On a related note, where's the love for Microsoft?
Just noticing that Xbox 360s and Windows operating systems are, lets say, poorly represented.
I call shenanigans (writer bias)!
Kev50027 @ Feb 19th 2007 10:30PM
Haven't you caught on yet? Engadget hates anything Microsoft or Sony. They mindlessly proclaim everyone copies Apple, their secret lover.
Dave @ Feb 19th 2007 2:49PM
I'm fairly certain Jefferson would have been running Linux. He was into liberty--not hipster bullshit.
Matt J @ Feb 19th 2007 2:51PM
This makes no sense. iPod is the most well supported cross-platform music device (good, identical clients for Windows and Mac) and the ONLY cross platform DRMd store.
RavenOak @ Feb 20th 2007 5:25PM
It's not cross platform if it only supports Mac and Windows. It's Mac and Windows compatible, a big difference from being cross platform.
frank @ Feb 19th 2007 3:00PM
Am I missing something or are you talking about some parallel America I've never heard of or been to? Presidents being technologically savvy, making environmentally conscious decisions?
[scratching my head]
Oh okay, sorry, just read the "keep it patriotic part". So you guys are all closet neocons! Awesome!
EDawg @ Feb 20th 2007 3:59PM
Theodore Roosevelt created national parks in the U.S. He was the first President concerned with the environment. He would have had a biodiesel 4x4 Pick-up for sure!
Kendall Tawes @ Feb 19th 2007 3:00PM
Das, Vista is mentioned twice and the 360 once how is that biased. Oh he mentioned OS X twice he must be an Apple fan-boy. Well he only mentioned the iPod once.
Anyway it's just supposed to be a bit of fun so don't take things so seriously. I think Jefferson's description was accurate because you so know he would be rocking a Tesla, but he was a lover of gadgets so I think he would have a MacBook Pro instead but with the glossy screen and he would be dropping that sidekick for a iPhone in about 3 seconds but that's not out yet and that would screw up congruity apparently.
These are my speculative views though I should mention that I live 7 minutes away from Monticello so I know enough about Jefferson.
Squirrels @ Feb 19th 2007 3:01PM
I enjoy how Lincoln is a hipster; he probably got this reputation from endorsing a minimalistic government ruled by the people. *shakes head* That wild Lincoln, whatever will we do with you? I move to assign Lincoln the title of Pimp; my evidence for this is his way with his slave ladies. Enough said. Further, anyone that is packing that much pimp technology should be granted the title just because of the extremes they have taken to appear thus. Lincoln will go down as a Sidekick-toting pimp into history.
Squirrels @ Feb 19th 2007 3:05PM
pardon, i retract my previous comments. I meant to apply them to Jefferson. Jefferson was the best president on that list anyway. Lincoln would have supported all the Dells being freed and shipped promply back to India.
adaminc @ Feb 19th 2007 3:21PM
I'm certain that if you gave any of those devices to any of those presidents they would promptly ship you to salem to be burned on a cross. WITCH!! WITCH!!
Mark Nestor @ Feb 19th 2007 3:23PM
Don't you think Jefferson would go the Cingular/iPhone route? I realize it's not out yet, but hey - he's the prez, don't you think they could get him one in advance?
Eric Pham @ Feb 19th 2007 3:31PM
I agree with kenwhatever, no way would my boy teddy back msoft. If anything hed bring the hammer down on them and take the rough riders down over to redmond and show ol bill what's what. And would anyone rock a zune at all, ever?
Derka @ Feb 19th 2007 3:31PM
Roosevelt FTW!
Speeddemon2008 @ Feb 19th 2007 3:33PM
I think Lincoln would use a Creative over a Sansa. I have read and heard many people say they prefer the Creative Zen Vision M over the Ipod video or Zune. I personally dont have any of these Although I know people with each of these. The creative is the least proprietary to me using a lot more formats than the two big video players.
Neebs @ Feb 19th 2007 3:41PM
You have made my day.
TratosDM @ Feb 19th 2007 4:16PM
Just to question... are you daft? Jefferson was not a "hipster"... he was a revolutionary, an extremist, and a libertarian. You have him pegged entirely wrong. He was more of a "rebel" than any president since, intellectually speaking. As a consequence, artsy as he may seem, I really don't think pegging him as a mac fanboy is the way to go. I think he'd find it too restrictive, and all in all, you've pegged him for the most restrictive ~everything~ in it's class... bad form, really.
SHADOW @ Feb 19th 2007 4:27PM
Teddy was fearlessbut not stupid. Why in the world would anyone want to use Vista.
When I need a MS product, which is rarely, I still use W2K because it will do what I want it to, which is very little. But then I always used NT 4.0 anyway.
Now I use a Mac AND I have a Segway.
TC @ Feb 19th 2007 4:31PM
Jefferson in todays time would be classified as a genius. He would definitely go with his own homebrew linux.
mike @ Feb 19th 2007 4:35PM
cuz Linux is cool. pfft.. wow
Storm9 @ Feb 19th 2007 4:45PM
Um...Why would Lincoln use a Sansa?
He would use an iPod like everyone else.
Matt B @ Feb 19th 2007 4:55PM
If Roosevelt was truly fearless, it would be a pirated version of Vista Ultimate.
Navetta @ Feb 19th 2007 5:00PM
I'm pretty sure BitTorrent users don't drive Segways...
steve @ Feb 19th 2007 5:12PM
my god is this stupid.
Jeff Foster @ Feb 19th 2007 5:38PM
Roosevelt's list is lame.
"He distrusted wealthy businessmen and dissolved 40 monopolistic corporations as a "trust buster." He was clear, however, to show that he did not disagree with trusts and capitalism in principle but was only against their corrupt, illegal practices."
you really think he'd own a Zune? or Vista?
Being fearless doesn't necessarily make him an idiot.
also, what makes him a pirate?
Luigi193 @ Feb 19th 2007 9:12PM
Hey they just discribed me!!! (Jefferson)
Macbook, ipod, wii, osx, no parrelels (yet)...Freaky...
Blake @ Feb 19th 2007 10:00PM
GP2X FTW! I guess I'm like Washington.
Levo Q. Pinder @ Feb 19th 2007 10:04PM
This is SO COOL! I LOVE Jefferson's choices. They are so true to the man, and that is not a compliment.
So what about our very own George W. Bush?? I think Windows XP, SP1 (not very secure...), Dell (allegedly Texan, but actually made god-knows-where),
ph @ Feb 20th 2007 1:56AM
"So what about our very own George W. Bush?? I think Windows XP, SP1 (not very secure...), Dell (allegedly Texan, but actually made god-knows-where), "
Vista, since Bush has made the United States more secure. Dell, because dell is a no nonsense, stable computer.
Wow, I think I may be in for it. I just promoted Bush, Vista, and Dell. *Runs behind wall as verbal abuse reigns down*
Kip HT @ Feb 20th 2007 4:36AM
George Bush:
Crayon...
Berkana @ Feb 20th 2007 7:45AM
Roosevelt the trust buster would never use Vista if he were alive today, knowing Microsoft's unethical business practices in crushing competition.
The Jeremy @ Feb 20th 2007 3:08PM
Jefferson the best president? Pffff. Look up the XYZ Affair, bub.
He also rewrote the Magna Carta in English and presented it as his own creation, like an 18th Century Puff Daddy with the "uh uhs" added for dramatic effect.
KushCash @ Feb 20th 2007 7:50PM
Calvin Coolidge and Howard Taft would use KushCash to send money through their mobile phone because Calcvin was just cool and Taft was too lazy to go to the bank.
solidus636 @ Feb 24th 2007 3:19AM
HAHA..Roosevelt!!!! We have the same birthdays!!lol.yea...but..the toughtbook..no...i'd say..the HP zd7000..!!WHOOT.:D
