Engadget's 3rd Birthday Giveaway - Wii for a screensaver is over tomorrow!

- Wii + 10,000 Wii points (courtesy of the WMExperts store)
- Samsung K5
- Xbox 360 for Windows Controller + copy of Lego Star Wars II
- A pair of Oakley O ROKR sunglasses
- Mystery swag bag #1
Create an Engadget screensaver. It can be whatever you want, just as long as it's Engadget-themed in some way. To make things easier we've included downloadable Engadget logo files after the break. Feel free to use those in your screensaver, or to incorporate our RSS feed, podcasts, whatever you think works. (We'll give you some more info about our feeds and tags after the break, too.) Please be picky with anything that uses RSS though -- try and do something interesting and original with those feeds if you're gonna use 'em -- there are already tons of feed-reading screensavers out there. We'll pick the five best Engadget screensavers as judged by the editors of Engadget and award out prizes in order of merit. Oh, and we'll be adding all the winning screensavers to the Engadget software page, too.
Also, big ups to the WMExperts store for providing the Wii and 10,000 Wii points to the grand prize winner!A few rules (yeah, there are always rules):
- You may only enter this specific contest once. If you enter this contest more than once you'll be automatically disqualified and barred from all future giveaways. (Yes, we have robots that thoroughly check to ensure fairness.) You may enter our other Birthday contests, but you can't win more than once; if you happen to win more than once (which is pretty unlikely, but still) we'll ask you to choose just one of your prizes.
- Your screensaver can be for Windows, OS X, or Linux only. (We obviously love other platforms -- especially mobile ones -- but we have to draw the line somewhere.)
- You can only win once.
- The grand prize (Wii) is open to international entrants. Runner-up prizes, however, are only open to US residents.
- Contest is open until 11:59pm EST on Sunday, March 18th.
- Send your entries to us at contest [AT] engadget.com. Make sure you put "SCREENSAVER" in the title of your email.
Feeds, tags, and comments info:
First up, our complete list of feeds, broken out by category, is here.
So, last year we added tags (and tag feeds) to our posts. So if you want to check out all the posts we've done on, say, Sony, just add Sony at the end of engadget.com/tag/ -- i.e. http://www.engadget.com/tag/sony/.
If you'd like to use the Sony tag feed, just add an rss.xml to the end of that URL -- i.e. http://www.engadget.com/tag/sony/rss.xml.
You can also subscribe to feeds for comments on individual posts. Just add comments.xml to the end of the post (i.e. http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/18/welcome-to-the-new-engadget/comments.xml).

hmm cool, chance to win 10,000 Wii points. I have one question though about these contests. How do we know if we won or not? Because like everyone else, submited to win prizes at Engadget's 3rd birthday give away n so far, ive gotten nothing.
how does it work on them giving away prizes?
TSP @ Mar 17th 2007 2:48PM
Well, seeing as how a person could possibly win multiple contest (though it is unlikely) and such people would have to choose between prizes from the different contests, My guess is they're waiting to announce winners until the winners from all three contests have been notified and have chosen their prizes.
On another note, I'd like to say good luck to all the entrants to this contest. I was entering, but circumstances changed and I have been unable to finish my screensaver, although I plan on finishing it eventually and possibly sending it to Engadget anyway. Since this is the most technical of the three contests, and since this is a tech-blogging website, I expect this to be the contest with the most fierce competition. I'm really hoping to get a creative screensaver to download as a result of this contest.

Yea really I have no idea when they select winners or anything..Haven't told us. And I just found out my submission for the first give away didn't go in because a confirmation email was never sent to me..bah

Also, I just noticed the Wii is being supplied by a store specializing in Windows Mobile devices. What's up with that?

None of the image download links work :-/

So, that's only a little over one day for the contest? I think a little more time would be so much better - especially if you're the sort who doesn't tend to read Engadget on the weekends! I would totally enter this if I had a couple more days.
TSP @ Mar 17th 2007 7:10PM
Umm, this contest started two weeks ago...
coyotej @ Mar 17th 2007 9:29PM
yep, I just noticed too late.
Spirit @ Mar 17th 2007 11:02PM
Uh... I've got an idea for a screen saver but.. what program do I use to make one?
Thanks for any help.
TSP @ Mar 17th 2007 11:06PM
I don't know of any screensaver-making programs--I was coding mine by hand in Visual Basic.
Steven @ Mar 17th 2007 11:17PM
The thing here I worry about is, this "standard" edition stuff. You know when a company caleld something standard, and its part of a series family, will surface 6 months later. Wait it out!
coyotej @ Mar 18th 2007 12:42AM
On Macs, Quartz Extreme can be used to create screen savers (it's a primarily visual interface, and requires no programming). So if you have a Mac that's probably the easiest place to try it out (You just need the free Developer kit)
coyotej @ Mar 18th 2007 12:42AM
sorry, meant to say "Quartz Composer", not "extreme"
Ignacio Garcia @ Mar 19th 2007 12:10AM
Bah, I ran out of time (of course, I started today :P )
Tip to whoever tries my screensaver: clap your hands to switch articles, press any key to open the current article in your browser. You can change the volume sensitivity in the Options section (lower threshold = quieter sounds trigger the switch).
Also, the logos react to sound too, particularly music ;-)
TSP @ Mar 20th 2007 11:01PM
Bah, I want to see the winners! Ignacio, that sounds awesome, although doesn't hitting a key normally just end a screensaver?
Nathan Ziarek @ Mar 26th 2007 2:13PM
Are we ever going to see any winners? I know mine was one of the first kicked off the island, but I'd be curious to see what the others looked like...
TSP @ Mar 26th 2007 4:21PM
Indeed, I was expecting an announcement by now, a week after it closed...
Nathan Ziarek @ Apr 2nd 2007 6:52PM
...I wonder how many entries they had. Some, I imagine, would take some time to sit through (RSS readers would take a bit to scroll through a few feeds, other might be more "animation-based"). So if Engadget had 200 entries, I could imagine it taking weeks for them to actually sit through each (you know, AND run a constantly updating website). That said, I really want to see some of these (and yes, I'd like to know how mine fared)...
Please?
