SplitFish announces FragFX mouse controller for PS3
Peripheral purveyor SplitFish has already brought some PC-style input to the PlayStation 2, but now, as promised, it's taken its game to the PS3, following up its EdgeFX mouse controller with the strikingly-similar FragFX device. Like the EdgeFX, the FragFX gives you a mouse to improve your aim in FPS games, with the separate left-handed grip controller getting an upgrade this time around to let you take advantage of the PS3's motion sensing abilities. Not one to let a potential selling point go unnoticed, SplitFish is also touting the controller as being "optimized" for use with Sony's recently announced Home virtual world. While you'll have to wait a while to put that particular claim to the test, you will be able to get your hands on a wired version of the FragFX next month for $60, with a Bluetooth version coming "later" for $70. Seeing as how the PS3 costs twice as much, thats to be expected. If someone is willing to make a $600 investement they're probably ready to drop a few extra bills on other things.
Although the fact that the PS3 costs twice as much is an explanation in and of itself.

this thing looks alright, the left handed controller reminds me of the wii one (im sure the design is constricted my ergonomics.)personally i dont think its better than the keyboard-mouse combination, but you never know, i would like to try it out before a purchase.
my brother just got both these systems this week (wii yesterday, didnt get a chance to try it out, missing the video cord of all things), but what a week! so far motorstorm dissapointed because it doesnt have split screen (like to challange my bro and friends to racing matches after a few drinks, the only safe drinking and driving!) the motion sensor driving is horrible, i really hope the wii sensor is better.

I could be mistaken, but last time I had checked the Wii was past 6 million consoles and the PS3 was merely at 2.15 million
Toss in the fact that Nintendo makes money on every single Wii they sell, and the fact that Sony loses money on every PS3 they sell and the difference is even greater.

Aha, I see it now. Thanks for pointing that out. The wii is at 2.3m in America, and the PS3 is at 1.3 in America.

This might be cool for me since I prefer a mouse and keyboard when playing FPSs. The main reason I haven't bought the PS3 (aside from price, lack of games and 1080i support last i heard).
Unfortunately, I'm also left-handed ... ;((

so this lets me play games on my ps3 like i can on my pc... hrmm why should i buy a ps3 again? Oh yeah right, it can be anything i want it to be!! even a computer! a future proof computer at that!
Kev50027 @ Mar 21st 2007 4:08PM
That's awesome! I play FPS games on computer only now because keyboard and mouse just works so freaking well for it, and controllers are like trying to walk straight while looking straight up into the sun.. it's impossible. It feels so un-natural to control a character with an analog stick that FPS games on consoles just tick me off more than anything.
If this works anywhere near as well as I expect, it will be worth the investment.

Omg, this looks like a nunchuck ripoff :o

Question is what games will this work with?
Resistance for example, doesn't work with the mouse, they don't want people having a huge advantage in multiplayer.
Ken @ Mar 22nd 2007 8:58AM
Resistance: Fall of Man and Unreal Tournament 2007 are the only two reasons (right now) to own a FragFX for the PS3. If Insomniac Games and EA went out of their way to prevent people from gaming with one of these, I'll be convinced that Sony-licensed developers are little better than Sony at providing gamers with what they want.
"PS3: we're telling you it's more powerful than a PC, but we don't want you to use PC peripherals. Here, use this gimped controller!"
Eric Pham @ Mar 21st 2007 5:22PM
Id so own with that!

This is all nice, fine and dandy, but can we get a Xbox360 version of this?? Since it isnt an actual "Mouse+Keyboard" Microsoft cant bitch about it. The "mouse" portion of this device is basicly the Right analog stick.
Magallanes @ Mar 23rd 2007 7:13AM
The brilliant idea behind the strategy of Nintendo is that Wii don't fight with xbox360 and ps3, a users of xbox360 or ps3 can buy a wii cause they don't overlap the gaming experience.
DJMC @ Apr 3rd 2007 8:16AM
I was waiting for this to come out for the xbox 360, but I recently contacted the guys at splitfish and they told me they have a unit ready that works with the 360 just waiting for Microsoft aproval.

lopesco @ May 20th 2007 1:31PM
Where can we buy it?

I have never liked the consol controlers for first person shooter games. I picked up the splitfish Frag FX for my PS3. I must say I love it.
