Cario concept notebook: the wardriver's best friend
Even though it's pretty obvious that Anna Lopez's Cario concept notebook is only meant to be used while parked outside your local NeighborFi hotspot, there are enough idiots out there who would be surfing while driving (never an Engadget reader, of course) that we kind of hope the design lives and dies as a CAD file on Ms. Lopez's PC. Only slightly less dangerous than some of the in-car offices we've seen, the Cario seems to use its lid for support while the user types at a rather uncomfortable angle directly on the screen -- if ever a product screamed for a Bluetooth keyboard, it's this one right here. All in all not a bad idea for those unfortunate individuals who work out of their cars, and despite the fact that we already have a pretty snazzy in-dash PC, we're starting to regret the fact that we replaced our factory steering wheel with one of those tiny, Cario-incompatible chain link numbers. Fashion over function, ya know?

Because there are no other OS which can be used as a tablet pc as easily as win xp tablet pc edition

Quote for the other site: "This notebook made for people that travel with their cars to work." I doubt that it was designed specifically for the wardrivers.... This would explain the windows tablet pc choice.

not to be facetious but maybe, just maybe in spite of wishful thinking by more than a few peeps around this place windows (in its various flavors) still is run by most PC's. maybe when linux dethrones windows from being the most popular consumer OS then you'll see things like this showing alternative gui's etc..
I have no doubt that for penetration and other types of network testing and evaluation there are many tools available for Linux over and above what exists on the windows platform. Maybe the concept isn't necessarily designed for wardriving etc (that tagline was presented by the engadget authors)
If someone was going to use this concept computer for wardriving/penetration testing etc, would they not have put something on other than windows?
personally i think a lot of you worry too much about what a device runs vs those who use the devices and whether or not the user can get things done with whatever is on the device.
not necessarily defending windows, but it gets tedious after a while seeing th e same kinds of comments, i do realize that windows is everybody's favorite punching bag.

If this ever is mass distributed, then they'd have to make sure that you cant interact with it at all if the car is moving.

It'd be interesting if and when an airbag deploys while the computer is on the wheel.

Looks like another way for "innocent" drivers to kill and maim others. . . .

Ayle, because of people like you, kittens die every day, you can say every bulls**t you want, but please, I beg you, DON'T say windows is a good operating system, don't lie to yourself

HAha and gps units were bad.
I guess if we had a thing were only women could use this while they are putting their makeup, fixing their hair, putting accessories and clothes on their way to work it would be a good idea. they can do everything safely already right?

WTF? I never talked about windows being good I said for the targeted audience for this thing windows XP tablet edition makes sense: people hate learning new stuffs.
And for your information I'm a Linux user.

I prefer my approach to wardriving:

Unfortunately, this did make turning rather difficult. I also had to yank the fuse for my horn. The laptop was an old school toughbook that the keyboard died on, so I yanked off the LCD and rotated it and turned it into a ghetto wardriving tablet.
