We've already seen the AMD versions of HP's new Compaq business laptops, the
6515b and 6715b, but now, thanks to a couple of leaked maintenance manuals, we've got word of Intel
Santa Rosa versions of those two models: the 6510b and 6710b. Just like their AMD brethren, both models come with a WWAN option, and the main difference between the two is the 14.1-inch WXGA screen in the 6510b and 15.4-inch WXGA or WSXGA+ screens in the 6710b. Processors range from the 1.8GHz T7100 to the 2.4GHz T7700, and both stick to Intel GM965 integrated graphics. Both laptops can be specced pretty much any way you can imagine, and can come with anything from Vista Business to SuSe Linux pre-installed. No word on price or availability, but with all sorts of Santa Rosa-tops getting ready to launch, it shouldn't be much longer of a wait.

Would someone please clarify what exactly Santa Clara will mean to laptops??
I was under the impression that is was the next Centrino chipset and would include beefed up integrated graphics to handle Vista better.... but the article indicated the old IG chip.
Please fill me in as my friend wants a laptop now and I thought waiting for Santa Rosa in a month would be the right move.
If I recall right the existing is the GM950, on a GM945 graphics chipset. The new one will be the X3100 on a GM965 chipset.
Would someone clarify why HP still makes Compaq-branded computers??
For the love of god, let it die already.
Compaq are cheaper than the HP based on the same configuration... Don't ask me why...
HP killed off some of its product names post merger. HP computers that say compaq are business only and the home version is the Pavillion lines....
That's a damn good looking wallpaper. Not so sure about the laptop itself...
Both models are listed in the French May HP list price. There seem to be 2 models of each, the 6710b being cheaper than the 6510b (??):
T7100 - 1Gb/120Gb: 6510b is 989€ / 6710b is 899€
T7300 - 1Gb/160Gb: 6510b is 1069€ / 6710b is 999€
Availibity seems to be for May 21st.
Engadget, you cease to be a source of tech info when your terminology degrades into crap like "WXGA or WSXGA+".
This *GA alphabet soup died in the '90s, thankfully. Why start a new generation of meaningless drivel, and in the process REMOVE information from your stories? Tell us the damned resolution IN NUMBERS. How many characters are you saving by writing "WSXGA+" instead of NNNNxNNNN? In case you can't count: THREE. Three characters saved, and readers not served.
Nice work.
You know what ? It's commonly used. Really really common. If you don't know it, google it ;)

Um, no. First of all, there's no agreement on what this crap means:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wide_XGA
Second, there's no excuse for deliberately wasting readers' time and reducing the clarity of written communication.
So again, why use this garbage, when it only saves three characters, and does not even provide accurate information?
