1.8 harddrives cost a fortune too a while ago. There was even a time when a 40 or 60GB harddrive was priced at $400. More over Apple and Samsung are buddies and can get a decent deal of quantities of a thousand. Then there are also people like me who are ready to pay $300-450 for an iPod with an SSD drive, rather than buying an ipod G5 for $250 with a harddrive which will let you down after a year.

Well the thing is, you can take a 1.8" SSD and put it in an X5L or 60gig X5, no modification of firmware needed.
But, considering SSD's cost more than the players themselves, I doubt we'll be seeing them, any time soon, in anything.
