The G1 had a 1680x1050 res to begin with, unless the US version is different to the model in New Zealand
I believe it is..... if I recall correctly, the G1 available elsewhere in the world commonly had a 1440x900 screen, while the G1 in the US at least already had a 1680x1050 screen.
