Dell XPS 720 H2C gets official

We already knew it was coming and knew what it'd look like, but we've now got the official word from Dell on its new high-end XPS 720 H2C Edition, which is sure to delight those with big pocketbooks and a penchant for slanted boxes. Boasting a starting price in the neighborhood of $6,000, this mammoth rig comes equipped with your choice of factory overclocked QX6700 or QX6800 Core 2 Extreme processors, dual GeForce 8800 GTX or GeForce 8800 Ultra graphics cards, a pair of 160GB SATA hard drives, some overclocked Corsair Dominator DDR2 memory, a Blu-ray drive, and, of course, Dell's trademark H2C thermo-electric/liquid cooling system. As of yet, there's no word on a non-H2C model. Those in the U.S. can get their orders in now, while those in Europe will have to wait a few more weeks.
Which is the best in terms of high end vfx 3d graphics users:Dell XPS 720 H2C Edition or the NEW MAC pro with 8-cores with an added hardrive Window os formated?
There are those of us who would like a smokin' rig without the adolescent flashing lights and form-not-following-function case design.
At least offer an option for a more...uh...mature appearance.

Especially when the article goes on to mention one's "penchant for slanted boxes". Or am I the only one that snickered at that? Woo boy, time to go outside.
Spend that much money on a graphics workstation made by Dell & running Windows?
Thanks but no thanks, I'll stick with Apple. Besides, that much scratch will get me quite the Mac rig.
Common, this is a story about a gaming PC. What do Macs have to do with it? I think it looks cool and if somone offered to give me one I'd take it.

6 grand for that?! Thats insane. You could get a dual quad core (8 total cores) Mac Pro, that if you wanted to you could run window.. even though that wouldn't make sense. For like 4k. And it would piss all over that computer.
Yes the mac would be a better workstation but not a better gaming machine by far hehe. This machine with a QX6800 at 3.7gz, 2xgtx and 1k mhz ram would run 2 times faster then a mac pro when it comes to gameing.
A Mac is not for gaming.
perhaps. But what if you bought a 8 core mac/ dual gpu, etc. for $4200 and booted into windows?
Seems like it would be a better deal than the Dell. Except for the lack of blinky lights.
And what did you mean by 1k mhz ram? 1kb of ram? 1Ghz speed?
If you are spending 6k on a computer just for gaming, and your name is not FATAL1TY, you should really evaluate your life & priorities!
If someone has 6k to spend on a pc for gaming, I'll think that person has his priorities set already.
Having money to do something like that indicates nothing.
Maybe it is the person who was B&Eing your house, your car or mugging your grandma.
I know of someone who is *really* into gaming. Spent over 3k on his system. So I guess he has his priorites in order, right?
The schmuck hasn't paid a dime in child support since his kid was born 3 years ago, and sees her about once a month.

How about this. I just dropped the 6grand on this system. I have a good job, a nice car, a House, and now a computer to entertain myself with when I'm not taking advantage of the car or working at the job, I have a life and friends. Some of us just enjoy having nice things.
Good for you jason, you just spent 6K on a toy to play games with that will be obsolete in 24 months.

Yes this PC cost alot(more then I got)but its aimed for those who wants the best for gaming money can buy with a warranty. As far as I know I dont se any better out there.
And to "rip" I think he mean the ram runs at 1066Mhz speed.
The mac with 8 cores aint better as most games dont support more then one or two cores (so its the core's speed that count) soon some will come that support 2-4 but a mac with 8 cores is for running alot programs at once. Also a mac comes with alot slower ram and graphic card.
I hate the shiny finish, it will look really nice at first but crappy after a few days/weeks. Those things are dust and finger print magnet.
note to Dell: blue LEDs are not cool. In fact, they're cheesy. Lot of them == more cheesy.
Time to get the industrial design dept. in shape Dell, this isn't going to work against HP.

will one of you haters link to a truly better looking OEM product? or do i have to call in a few favors and pass a law making vanilla the required coloring for all cases going forward? how about restrict bandwidth to 56k?
the damn thing looks way better than anything I've seen in the past except the MacPro and Lian Li. i personally hate the price of anything that's not free but you do get a nice piece of machinery all things considered.
Ummm why only 2x160gb hdds? That seems pretty lame..
what happen to latest ligthing rod of concep 2 side panel design....... patent still pending?

They have great black monitors to match up their flagship desktop machine. but they use a cheap silver one instead. this is a taste of DELL..

I got this rig in March actually, I hav'nt found a game that can slow it down on max detail it chews it up. The only downer is I got the 4 gigs of ram and ends up only can use 2.5 gigs after the periphels eat up the memory, still its a beast!
For those who don't know this, be happy i told you it.
The blink led doesn't matter that much because you can turn them off and on and switch color. I just say Way the go DELL a not so afford able POWER machine that does the work, even in the future :D
