The Skoda cakemobile
Poor Czech auto manufacturer Skoda. Had it built this (presumably non-working) 1:1 replica of the new Fabia supermini in the medium of cake just a few months earlier, it would almost certainly be the proud owner of a brand new OQO Model 02 right about now. Check out the ad that documents the cakemobile's creation after the break...

Reading the title I thought it was about a car running on cake fuel.
Tvirkintojas @ May 28th 2007 9:05AM
Its not poor car manufacturer. car quality is way better than american manufacturers and dont forget safety which is above average in all skoda cars...
CJ @ Mar 19th 2008 5:15AM
True.
But then again, you have to contend with the fact that it's a Skoda...
Tvirkintojas @ Mar 19th 2008 8:13AM
Yes, i can agree on that
lp @ May 28th 2007 9:08AM
*Its not poor car manufacturer
Heh, no need to get defensive, I think you've misinterpreted the comment. Skoda did used to make crap cars, but are now owned by VW, but the 'poor Skoda' comment refers to the fact they didn't win the linked to competition
:)

i'm going to work on my cake for the next engadget cake contest now.....
Geoff in Prague @ May 28th 2007 9:44AM
gotta say, they really do make a great car. this new fabia is a fantastic looking update. i drive a skoda octavia and love everything about it. i only wish they were exported to the States. better quality and price than VW...and the 1.9 TDI engine is amazing.
Geoff in Prague @ May 28th 2007 9:46AM
oh, and almost forgot. it's not skoda, it's škoda. and it's pronounced shkoda.
liqwidzero @ May 28th 2007 10:25AM
Wow, I haven't heard that song in ages.

I'm pretty sure Satan ordered a Ferrari cake.

'Poor Czech Manufacturer' SkodaAuto (Skoda refers to one of the worlds biggest industrial supplier - e.j. Niagara Falls turbines) is currently providing the bacon (along with Audi AG) to parent owner VW Group. Now, VW AG beign Europe's biggest company; providing the biggest source of income in Europe has nothing poor about it. Please be careful with your poor comments. T.
Andrew H. @ May 28th 2007 2:07PM
i think you misinterpreted the comment. poor refers to the fact that they didnt enter the cake into the engadget competition which they wudve easily won.
Jeff Snugglebutton @ May 28th 2007 10:43AM
I love my Skoda Octavia Combi. Though I just ripped off the front valance since it rides so low to the ground. Of course getting 38 miles to the gallon and not paying 7 bucks for gas is nice even when you paid 2800 bucks to have it exported to the states.
Bazza @ May 28th 2007 10:50AM
Shame I'm on a diet! :(

I saw this advert on tv about 2 weeks ago for the first time and was talking on the phone at the time, I just said wait a min to the person I was talking to and said wow, there is a new cool advert!
I think there is a maximum of about 2 adverts every year or so that actually make you think "wow", and this was one of them!
Personally, I love the jelly back light!? (I think its jelly), how did they do that!
MarkG @ May 28th 2007 11:28AM
"oh, and almost forgot. it's not skoda, it's škoda. and it's pronounced shkoda."
Only when it's endorsed by Sean Connery.

My family owned a Skoda Fabia, don't buy one - PIECE OF SHIT!

I prefer pie.

I saw this in the newspaper, its claimed it cost half a million pounds to make. I love the details though, the engine, syrup oil and liquorice belts. I wonder what they did with it after?
Adam @ May 28th 2007 6:40PM
"Acura cake?!?"
Dean @ May 29th 2007 7:06AM
Mike, all the people in the advert made the cake (even bricklayers were used to stack up the interior). Once filming finished they all got to eat the cake. It was in the papers last week.
Ed @ May 29th 2007 11:05AM
All we need now is to whip up some Marzipan test drive dummies
Duffman @ May 29th 2007 6:56PM
