Panasonic's Lumix DMC-FS2: another ho-hum 7.2 megapixel shooter
Panasonic just slid out a new Lumix shooter in Japan under the name DMC-FS2. It comes packing plenty of average with a 7.2 megapixel CCD, 3x Leica DC Vario-Elmarit zoom lens, ISO 3200 "high sensitivity" mode, and 2.5-inch LCD on the backside. It can record about 350 shots off a single charge and record 848 x 480 video at 30fps direct to SDHC/SD cards. The FS2 will ship in choice of pink, black, or silver in Japan (and presumably beyond) starting mid-June for an undisclosed price.

At least it has true image stabilization, and is a nice Leica lens. I'd buy one for $199, but I imagine it will retail for more.

HOW many more useless cameras are there guys going to make?
noazark @ Jun 4th 2007 9:31AM
so do you have a picture after it transforms?

What would be really exciting is if they made it a 15 megapixel camera! Who cares if the lens only can deliver an image sharp enough to warrant a 5 megapixel sensor, and the image looks crappier than 3 year old cameras, consumers like big numbers!

I'm having a hard time seeing any difference between this and the already released FX-12. Specs seem identical, camera body seems identical. I don't see an annoucement for this camera on any of the common photography sites (dpreview, dcresource, etc) Is it the same camera?

The FX-12 can be had sub $200. This camera is fairly small, but it's a bit shy of ultra-compact status, and the LCD is fairly low res (112k pixels)

Addendum: looking at the dimensions, it actually could be considered an ultra-compact. (94 x 51 x 24 mm)

If it is so dull and average, why post it?
