We still don't have the magic numbers (launch date and price) on that most impressive new Dell XPS m1330, but we did at least secure some more eye candy for you. A couple more shots after the break.
Unfortunately, yes. We got tired of people using our scoops without providing credit (see: what happened when I published the first known shot of the Zune way back last July: http://www.engadget.com/2006/07/10/microsofts-argo-xbox-wireless-portable-media-player/). If everyone where honest about where they found their material then it wouldn't be necessary.
Tid: no need for such dramatic effects. Do you run a website/ blog? Do you realize everyone is stealing content? So if they got the pictures first, they wanna make sure that they at least get a trackback.
Hah! I believe the phrasa you're looking for is "many Bothans died to bring us this information" ;)
Yes, the watermarks are annoying... They look to be pre-release official Dell press photos, but I guess if Engadget wants to claim to be the source (after many, many blogs rehash the photos), they have the right to do so, if it's some kind of "exclusive". Don't worry... The real photos will be out soon and they'll be bigger and shinier sans watermark, so curb your patience a wee bit longer.
Yeah, I understand Ryan. My thinking is just that it would be a bigger deal if you actually designed the laptop or something. But it's just a picture, and it'll get out no matter what.
What's with the track pad slightly to the left. I can see they were going for the central alignment with the space bar, but that would drive me nuts. I like the whole brushed metal look though... and the car.
The track pad is slightly to the left because there is an extra column of keys (multimedia? function? who knows?) to the right of your normal keyboard layout.
Centering the pad to the primary keyboard area is more of a priority than centering it on the whole keyboard or width of the notebook, which would slip it askew your hands' natural resting/typing positions.
Oh, I get it. I think I would feel a little awkward positioning my hands off to the left, but I guess it's a bit of an aquired taste. Anyway, it's still sexy none the less.
Yesterday, immediately after Engadget posted the details they had from a marketing promotion about the Dell XPS m1330, I was only able to find three links via Google using "Dell XPS m1330". Only several more sites using just "Dell m1330" and more using m1330. "None of links I found had anything about the new Dell XPS m1330".
Earlier this morning, there were quite a few sites that now had information on the m1330. A few gave acknowledgement to Engadget, most did not. What I didn't see were any images.
it doesn't need to change, or need embelishment. it is beautiful in its minimal simplicity, driven by functional needs. you don't end up with a mashup of different colored periphs, monitors, etc, because they actually have design guidelines and standards.
Why does everyone compare Dell laptops to MacBooks? MacBooks are just pretend computers for people who cant use a real computer (and do nothing productive).
This Dell XPS M1330 looks awesome. Kudos to Dell for listening to its customers. I think the 12in screen on the M1210 is too small so i'll be upgrading on June 26 as soon as I can.
I think Dell's trying, this is a bit better. The pretty pictures look okay, but it really comes down to the quality of the build. They always have big gaps between parts, wierd/ugly crap on the bottom, bad/faux finishes. Oh, and too many connectors, like I still need a pcmcia slot? A phone jack? If I really need that, I'll get a dongle. Otherwise spare me and most everybody else the legacy crap.
P.S. so true about the Sony previous industrial design. P.P.S. Do you really need to cram the logo into the hinge like that? Tacky!
Does the watermark thing mean that the 99% of pictures that AREN'T watermarked on Engadget, encompassing thousands upon thousands of photos, have all been leeched and posted without attribution by engadget?
This thing is too hot. Still, not as good-looking as the Ziba/Intel, but I can bet the Z/I doesn't and can't use any nVidia GPU. Now I can't decide which one to choose from!!!
Haha, I hate to break it to you, but I myself was being sarcastic.
But wait, are you being sarcastic by pointing me to that article, as if you didn't know that I was being sarcastic, but it really was very obvious?? Aagh!
Finally! The Dell 700m/710m series was awesome and then Dell "brickified" it with the XPS m1210. Why is it that all Dell laptops are massive?
This is finally something worth buying. The design does look a little (a lot) like a Sony Vaio though.
Please bring it out with XP so we don't have to run the hog Vista. Better yet, please allow us to purchase it with Ubuntu or FreeOS. That way we don't have to pay the Windows Tax and we can pick the OS of our choise.
As soon as I order this I am going to have to get a new privacy filter so I can be "stealthy" on the road. Put a cool 13.3" Widescreen privacy filter from ViewGuard (www.buyviewguard.com) on this baby and I am good to work in Starbucks (or at a client site) without anyone watching me surf Engadget......
sleeky design; Let's see how long it takes for Dell to be the number one PC maker again. The laptop market will be on the heat when this system is available for sale.
Definitely a great entry in the looks department. Would've liked to maybe get a slightly higher res (I'm expecting 1280x800 most likely), but I think it's a really nice alternative to the MacBook for us that can't stand OSX and all of the crap that goes with owning a mac. Plus, I can't afford to buy multiple copies of the Adobe Suite to run on both platforms.. so it's helpful there too.
This machine rocks! Right after a ordered it, I created a fan site with all the stats and pictures compiled. I think the Dell online shop is a bit cluttered to get a good overview. Check it out at http://www.dell-m1330-info.com
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
That's really hot.
Is the engadget watermark really necessary?
Absolutely,
They took those pictures, and they made the laptop. It's totally appropriate for them to water mark things that aren't theirs.
Perhaps they went through a lot of trouble to get the pics. I would put a watermark on too.
Yeh, 3 people died just so we could see these pics. Definately worth watermarking
Tid: no need for such dramatic effects. Do you run a website/ blog? Do you realize everyone is stealing content? So if they got the pictures first, they wanna make sure that they at least get a trackback.
What are you talking about, Eric? That laptop is a Dell. Engadget doesn't make laptops!
Hah! I believe the phrasa you're looking for is "many Bothans died to bring us this information" ;)

wow.... looks like Dell has actually stepped their game up. It's a beautiful machine!
Man I'm gonna have a hard time deciding between this and the new Dell tablet.
Somebody should let them know then.
for alex:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcasm
Wow, Dell finally hired a design team!
Does anyone know the native screen resolution?
I think its a similar panel to most of the other 13.3 inch screens so likely to be 1280x800
Yeah, I understand Ryan. My thinking is just that it would be a bigger deal if you actually designed the laptop or something. But it's just a picture, and it'll get out no matter what.
Wow, these people are not getting it.
Yep, I'd still take the Latitude XT anyday, it's definitely Dell's best product to date...
http://www.ministryoftech.com/2007/05/18/dell-latitude-tablet-pc-revealed/
wtf??!! that's undellish! now i'll have more trouble deciding between this and a macbook.
Ryan, how do I reach you. Please get in touch at the address I am using to post comments.
Looks a lot like Sony's SZ
I love it.
I couldnt ask for anything more.
Please please please be affordablee.
If its around £1k i will be happy.
Damn, that thing's gorgeous. I can't wait to see one catch on fire.
What's with the track pad slightly to the left. I can see they were going for the central alignment with the space bar, but that would drive me nuts. I like the whole brushed metal look though... and the car.

Black, White, and Red... Make me a Blue one Dell and I'm buying!
Yesterday, immediately after Engadget posted the details they had from a marketing promotion about the Dell XPS m1330, I was only able to find three links via Google using "Dell XPS m1330". Engadget isn't throwing a © Copyright, per se, on the images, just tossing their name on it. Everyone knows they didn't make the laptop and they're not trying to pull a fast one. They simply knew they were hitting the web first with the news and wanted credit.
I'm not sure who would really be upset about that watermark, unless...hmm...uh huh. We know why you're really complaining. ;)
no one can touch the beauty of the mac. hilarious attempt tho!
yes, you're right. Nothing beats the beauty that is a slim cuboid with rounded edges...
was nice at the time, but i think its time apple moved forward in their laptop designs... its getting really old
it doesn't need to change, or need embelishment. it is beautiful in its minimal simplicity, driven by functional needs. you don't end up with a mashup of different colored periphs, monitors, etc, because they actually have design guidelines and standards.
indeed!
Wow, someone with good taste posting here. That's unusual.
Yeah "the Mac" is the only beautiful thing in the world. Try stepping out of the house once in a while.
who said it was? we're talking technology here. and how is the beauty of nature even relevant to this discussion? explain yourself.
Thanks Engadget for the early info!
i used to think like you too. the memory of it makes me shudder
Finally, Dell is catching on the importance of a good design team.
And I hate to say this because I respect the right to one's work, but the watermark sort of defeats the puropse of those pictures.
why is everyone complaining about water mark when the photographer of that aston martin isnt even complaining.
Finally dell makes a computer that looks good, not 1800 different colors, and will not fall apart due to shitty screen attachments.
"Wow, Dell finally hired a design team!"
Or they're using someone else's hardware. They used to have a pretty sexy ultra-portable which was really a rebranded Samsung laptop.
I think Dell's trying, this is a bit better. The pretty pictures look okay, but it really comes down to the quality of the build. Or does it only the work the other way?
mmmm. looks a lot like my beloved Sony SZ260P/C....but a HUGE step up for Dell...
This is what I wish the new mac book pro looked like
It is too bad that they failed to add the DELL Track Stick
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pointing_stick
The design of the LCD looks exactly like my 19" sony monitor.
Many Bothans died tp bring us those pictures.
Awful design. I want my Macbook Pro.
I will get this the day it comes out... IF it has a gigabit ethernet.... otherwise I wont.. thats what made me give away my m1210 and get a d620...
This thing is too hot. Still, not as good-looking as the Ziba/Intel, but I can bet the Z/I doesn't and can't use any nVidia GPU. Now I can't decide which one to choose from!!!
XSportSeeker..... wow.... I couldn't agree with you more...
VIVA LA WINDOWS!!!!!!!!!!
I am buying this the second it hits the market. Want to buy a release date!
Haha, I hate to break it to you, but I myself was being sarcastic.
But wait, are you being sarcastic by pointing me to that article, as if you didn't know that I was being sarcastic, but it really was very obvious?? Aagh!
Again give me a 15.4" with a solid GPU and I will be all over this thing like a stalker on a super model.
Finally! The Dell 700m/710m series was awesome and then Dell "brickified" it with the XPS m1210. Why is it that all Dell laptops are massive?

All I can think of when I see a Dell now is 'Wal Mart'
it is now a tainted brand.
There will only be one system that will be available at Walmart. One of the lower end Dimension 521 with a base and medium configuration
Whatever, either way - Dells are CRAP, Brad.
sleeky design; Let's see how long it takes for Dell to be the number one PC maker again.
The laptop market will be on the heat when this system is available for sale.
Does anyone know if there are plans to include blu-ray as an option given the HDMI output to larger displays.
Definitely a great entry in the looks department. I think I've finally found my laptop.
Macs are for homoxexuals
How's your dad like his then?
When does this come out? i hear their comming out with a whole new line , when does the rest of the laptops come out... or is that far in the future
how much is this new xps going to cost me if i want to purchase one??????
1,589 before tax for LED back light and dedicated video card. I wish i had that much money to buy one :P.
PS you can see the price on dell.ca
This machine rocks!
